@Clem Fandango - Rot! Gael does not mean Irish. A Gael is a member of Gaelic speaking communities from Ireland, Scotland AND the IOM. The song is 100% Scottish, composed in 1990 by a Scot for the opening of the Loch Ness Visitor Centre, and in his own words "The monster in the loch goes way back to ancient Gaelic myths of seahorses (kelpies), and to write this little tune, I imagined a Gaelic community on the banks of Loch Ness". Can't get more Scottish than the composer, Kelpies and Loch Ness. It cracks me up when I read of Irish and Irish Americans waxing lyrical about how it reminds them of Ireland. Ignorance truly is bliss!

He was commissioned by The Loch Ness Monster Society for this song in the late 1980s, and I am in LOVE with the original version.... because it's so ominous and foreboding with the tones of the Loch Ness Monster at the beginning, and then it feels like Nessie comes up to hear the music playing, when Dougie's solo comes in!!

I am Irish. Both my parents were Irish. And all 16 of their great great grandparents were from south Ireland. I guess that makes me about as Celtic as a person can get. Most people here don't seem to realize that the Scots are actually descended from the Irish. That's not to diminish their own beautiful nationality and culture that are purely Scottish. But essentially Irish, Scots and Welsh are all family. When it comes down to the crunch, these various 'families' of Celts all get along great, recognize the connection between all of them and would stand together. And they always will. When I listen to this music my soul goes on a journey through the glorious universe enjoying a dazzling mind trip from sensing the incredible power and love to be found way out there. Out in the universe... we are all one.

Yesterday I attended a freedom rally in Montreal. This was playing at the head of the march. It sent chills down my spine.

I’ve always loved Celtic music but this is extraordinary. And it was so fitting for Last of the Mohicans.

I spent a little time in Scotland when I was in the Navy and everytime I hear this song it reminds me of the time I hiked up the hills around Holy Loch. And it also makes me think of my ancestors who were fom Scotland.
