Adding glass textures to objects can give a realistic aesthetic look to models and it's fairly simple to do once you know how to set it up in Blender. This tutorial covers a few ways of adding glass style textures to your models.

Quick and dirty, good explanation - much thanks for that! My question: It is possible to create a texture with an alpha channel defined as "MSFS glass" which renders the alpha mask (the window parts in my case) as glass only? Any ideas? My second thought is: If you have a buildings with lots of windows outside and inside you can see through, the polygon count gets much bigger. If i am using a occlusion, roughness and metallic map for the transparent window texture it works well at first sight - but in this manner there are some MSFS render issues with "glass behind glass". I want to avoid the high polygon count during modeling every single window frame to make the MSFS glass render mode working realistic. Is there a second possibility?

Have you done a guide on how you place your own 3d models in a specific location in the MSFS world. I'd love to add a local monument that's near my home but missing by default.

Very nice, efficient tutorial. It would be awesome if you can do a tutorial on how to control the size, density and color of the grass. Sometime I want a beautiful green short cut grass but it's not always a success...

I don't think you can change the auto gen grass at the moment. Have to wait for the SDK to be updated I think

Is there any way you can make a video to show how to get the glass to look like the Aerosoft CRJ cockpit glass? Im trying to create my own aircraft but the glass is the only thing I cant get to look like theirs does. Thanks! Ohh and also an idea for another video could be decals. Aerosoft uses them on the CRJ too, 2D object but makes it look 3D with shadows etc to save on vertices count

Hey. Thanks for your video. Great work. Question, i created an airport with buildings of other addons. I see everything correct. But if i share my folder of my own airport with friends, they don't see the airport completely due to the fact that they don't have the other addons installed, were i took my buildings. Is there an easy chance to import these buildings and objects to my own airport folder with SDK. Thanks for an answer 💪

thank you so much! also how can i modify the model ingame after making changes in blender without having to restart the sim?
@FlyingTheston3 жыл бұрын
models are hot loaded when the scenery editor is running, so if you make a change to the gltf file then it will just auto load back in. However, if you make changes to the texture files then you need to re-build the project, close down the scenery editor and re-open it again to see any texture changes.

Yeah I'm going to do a video on UV Mapping in Blender, but not on super complicated shapes, things like buildings, etc as that's what's most commonly required when making scenery.

Thanx for all the videos which helped me a lot in creating scenery. Question: I've used a 3d warehouse model of a Radio Tower to create a landmark for MSFS2020. I imported this model in Blender, then added lights (day/night cycle). All lights are working except the red anti-collision light in top. Any idea why this light doesn't work? Even when I copy a working red light and move it to the top it doesn't show anymore. Here's the model I've uploaded for MSFS2002 (under my alias AxeV). flightsim.to/file/3082/kpn-radio-tower-hilversum
@FlyingTheston3 жыл бұрын
Did you add the red light in blender? If so, the blender lights just shine onto a surface they are not visible in the sky. So you'll probably notice the top of your tower is receiving the red light colour and showing red. The flight sim FX are the way to create proper glowing lights I think, but this part of the SDK hasn't been exposed yet so you can't seem to use it to create proper warning lights. If you watch my video on lighting (i think like episode 5 maybe?) then I show a workaround where you can just have a white sphere and cast red light onto that sphere from all angles to fake a red beacon.
@axev1333 жыл бұрын
@@FlyingTheston Yes I added the red light in Blender and now I probably understand why it can't be seen; there is no surface to reflect. I'll give your suggested workaround a try, and again many thanx for your contribution to support the community!
@axev1333 жыл бұрын
I managed to create a working anti-collision light for which I've used your workaround. I didn't use point lights because that reflects too much on the textures below so I used spots which I pointed towards the ico sphere. flightsim.to/file/3082/kpn-radio-tower-hilversum
@FlyingTheston3 жыл бұрын
@@axev133 Looks good! you may also find that your sphere on your model looks too small far away so it effectively disappears. For this you can just have different level of detail models and the lower level of detail just make the sphere proportionally larger so it still looks visible and decent at range.
@axev1333 жыл бұрын
@@FlyingTheston ok, thanx (used 0.2). Will change that for the next update.
