John Twist, you are the man! For weeks i was searching for this fault on my '67 MGB GT. The starter was tunrning but obviously not fast enough for sliding forward on the starter-shaft and to engage the flywheel. The reason was a bad ground connection between the chassis and the motor. I cleaned the connections, used a little bit of cooper paste and voila - the motor is now starting every time i turn the starter key. Thank you very much for this hint! Greetings Holger

Thx will look into this in the a.m. I called your shop today and had your mechanics looking at eachother : Today I changed the Ignition switch, then everything started to go wrong one after another. fix one 2 die.. Now starter turns over with the click of my high beams or turning on my headlights. Headlights and tail or out but parking lights still work Ghost in the Machine Hopefully you will post a video on how to trace this down. If you were in Cali. would bring it to you.

Hi John, I have 79 Midget 1500, Starter solenoid just clicks. New starter motor fitted, same issue. If I rock car over in 2nd gear and try again, the starter motor engages and sticks. Then I'm back to the clicking again of the solenoid again. Battery is OK, even tried jump starting it, still clicking. Could I have a bad starter solenoid ?

John,i have 1977 mg midget,it's been in the garage for more than 20 yrs..I recently changed battery,spark plugs,plug wires,rotor but still it's not running or will not start.i like to change the ign. coil and distributor but they don't have the original one.i need your advice and thanks again..

QUESTION: What does it mean when the starter makes no noise at all? The car used to start, but after a run I noticed a burning electrical smell and now the car will not start. Is the Starter toast, or should I be looking for an electrical short someplace else?

I've got a friend his midget won't rev after changing the gas tank,it starts but Will not rev .

Amazing how a simple 10 cent tiny light bulb can diagnose start issue. Fancy tools...We don't need no stinkin' fancy tools...........
