When Stan and Hilda went to get Florrie-who was saying she didn't care if she was killed- but they wouldn't have that and Stan picked her up and physically carried her to the mission! One of the best episodes- everyone pulling together for each other!

Stan was quite brave in a few episodes, there's was one where an American soldier Joe Donnelli who murdered Steve Tanner (Elsie's estranged husband) held Minnie and Stan hostage....he saved the day. 1970

This is one of the most amazing episodes I've seen. These people, who experienced a blitz two decades before, easily find ways to amuse each other and reestablish the community in the bomb shelter. The most poignant moments concern the two bomb squad members. They do not interact with the main cast, yet we get to know them as well as any of the main cast. I was a bit alarmed at first to see they weren't wearing hazmat suits (or whatever the term would have been then), but I know nothing would have protected them had the bomb gone off. They are heroic in a real way, not the overblown way of much of fiction. Stan is also heroic by picking up Florrie and carrying her, just as he is later heroic in the Joe Donelli episode. Of course, he wouldn't have gotten very far without Hilda. She generally takes charge of the situation. Stan and Hilda are often used for laughs, but there is a depth to them. They remain my favorite Corrie couple.

So Albert's stuff is in the pink square. These days he'd say " Ey, I ain't avin' no pink square, Mrs Sharples! All these lasses 'ere-you, Mrs Tanner, Mrs Ogden-why can't one of YOU 'ave the pink square!" Actually, watching it now ( I've also seen Catherine Tate) it'd be brilliant if that happened and Derek came down the steps. Ena " Right! Mr Fay, you put your stuff in the pink square." Derek " I beg your pardon! What on EARTH are you insinuating?! How very, VERY, dare you! 25 years mother and I have been coming to this mission hall, and you come out with this! Well, I find you-and your hairnet-impertinent!"

This reminds me of the stories my grandmother would tell, about the air raid shelters, and, living through the war. If this episode were to happen in 2019, the writers wouldn't "waste" it on songs... no no.. they would have something outlandish happen, like someone returning from the grave to murder some nameless, faceless, character (pick one, they all look the same these days), and, followed by gratuitous hooking up of two more carbon copy characters, followed by another one opening up an international airport right on the street, where every character would end up working.
