I've struggled to give to the church for many years, especially well off ones I've been too,yet have always been enthusiastic about mission, both at home and worldwide. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer is a saying equally true of the church as it is of the world. There are many millions of Christians in this world who have next to no resources both physically and spiritually so need our help. Oh to be guided by compassion for the poor, needy, oppressed, orphans and widows, these are the things that get me excited about giving and burn with a vision to that end

Thank you for clarity. In 2009, after losing 1/3 of my retirement, with great deliberation, I cashed out and gave the rest. My reasoning was this: Jesus is my security. Although I went through a time of struggle, I have seen God provide for me, a 62 year old single lady homemaker at the time. I wasn't trying to buy a blessing, but I saw the Gospel as the best investment. Yes, I've been criticized and at times I wondered if I missed God. I loved how this pastor made clear, that the grace for giving is the same grace for living. It's so wonderful to be able to help a family in financial hardship or send medical supplies to other countries that are in great need. Now at 76 years of age, I don't have that same opportunity, but knowing that God supplies my every need (even Balsam Hill Christmas trees from my children) is a joy indeed. The grace for giving is the same as grace for living. What a wonderful and profound testament to Jesus.

I am amazed at how many people do not get this. So many people want to mix grace and the law and it's always detrimental to their relationship with God and people alike. This hybrid gospel has made the Church weak and powerless. I just purchased Andrew's book "God Without Religion" a few months ago, and am very glad to hear someone preaching grace as it truly is.

@@ugwui certainly not, we are called to be holy as the Lord is holy. But grace is what empowers us live a life that resists sin! When we understand the sacrifice that Jesus made in giving His life for us, it does not lead us to live a life of sin but thank Him for His love grace and mercy. When we miss the mark as Christians and we will, we thank Him for His grace because we are righteous by the blood of Christ not by our own “goodness” because we can never be good enough, it’s only by the sacrifice of our PERFECT SAVIOUR that we can be made right and reconciled to God

Your words are AWESOME. I heard from the sweet Lord when I met him that tithing is nothing, it's just a nice place to start. Lately my little church submitted itself to be "mentored" by a large church with an incredibly hard-nosed, cram-it-down-your-throat teaching on tithing. For me it has spoiled the beautiful delicate precious presence of God in the place. They now have everyone repeated a long-winded confession after a stern message about tithing. No tithe, no ticket into the blessing, the inside of the things of God, and don't expect anything if you are robbing God ala Malachi and be faithful in the little things so you can be trusted with much, which now is defined as more money, etc. Lately they are laying into the cursed message. I actually felt cursed because I don't come into agreement with it. I am shaking myself loose. I am a giver and I love giving. Thank you for helping me get free.

There is a scripture that says if you give to the poor, you lend to God. There is always a return on your giving. Paul taught it in 2 Corinthians. He likened it to a farmer. There is no harvest without seed sowing. It's the notion that somehow it's wrong to expect from God, is the reason people won't trust God for their material needs. Aren't both extreme sides wrong? Whatever is not of faith is sin. So isn't no expectation sin?

I was very blessed before being under the tithing curse, giving wherever and whenever God showed me. Then joined a tithing church and lost everything and got into debt on top of it. I'm now back to cheerfully giving, and God has been so faithful.

Yes an old covenant principle masquerading itself as a new covenant one. I mean if they want to be scriptural about it then they need to give 30% not 10% because money was useless to the Levitical priesthood for they took their income from the surplus offerings the people brought which was the fat of the land and the best of their livestock. The reason someone had to give 30% was for an extra 20% handling tax, this was because as I had said before money was useless to them, the Levites were a tribe set aside for the service and upkeep of the temple. If modern day preachers still want to collect tithes and again be scriptural about it, receive them once a year instead of someone's weekly or monthly pay-cheque and collect 30% One day the church will wake up to the new covenant!

Dr. Farley, your words on this topic are a rare, refreshing drop of water in a parched earth. With regard to tithing, and giving, and prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is not the full counsel of God. It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel regarding the topic of giving. Here are a few points. -- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever conduct an animal sacrifice or even work in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites. -- People are blessed when they give, as you have affirmed, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. They are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple. -- There is much more to this, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the biblical clarity behind this history. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures. If you're interested in learning more, I have researched and written about this in "Tither, You Are Free!" Blessings to you and your ministry!

My 2cents, if I’m going to give, it’s not because I want something back. If the lord thinks I should be bless with something just because I gave then that’s great, he is a perfect judge and loving Father but I will not give just because I get double or three times back. I’m blessed every day with a new day and with my good health. The lord has bless me already so I should help my fellow brothers and sisters that need it.

I believe It's all about trusting God. When you have faith in God, you trust Him with everything, including money so when you trust Him, you give. You give freely and cheerfully because you're happy to give because you trust Him that He is your Provider. That money is not even yours to begin with, we are stuarts not owners so we manage His money (His blessing, because all blessings comes from Him) where He wants us to sow. So it's not about MONEY, it's about TRUST! God doesn't need our money, He owns EVERYTHING! The tithing (10% or whatever....) is for you, to show to yourself that you trust God, not only with your words but with your acts as well. God bless :)

For the most part I have given my tithes all the time and after hearing this message along with further research I have come to this conclusion. I have seen my cup overflow with blessings because God knows my heart when I give. The true faithfulness of His promises is evident because even if someone's motivation isn't to teach the truth about tithing, He is still providing in abundance to His children that give in true faith in Him. This only opens my eyes to how important it is for us believers to spread the truth as best as we understand so that we can direct as many unbelievers as possible to Jesus with the will of God.

According to reports, this man is worth up to US$50 million. How much of that comes from the "tithes" sent to his ministry? Have a look at this clip of Creflo at work: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNuIaa2gnryodXU.html He tells you straight, that you you will NOT receive financial blessings from the Lord "not if you ain't sent no momey to Him". In other words, you have to give God your money FIRST, then God will bless you financially. What a despicable lie, what a twisting of scripture. It is sad.#

actually offerings are not mandated to support pastors. if you really want to understand the SCRIPTURAL teaching on tithes, offerings, alms, then download the free pdf by googlling "The Tithe That Binds" by Rory Moore

Also Giving doesn't have to be $$$ either, it's whatever your brother(s) or sister(s) need.. If you have 2 jackets, give one to your brother as purposes in your heart. If you see the need, feed the need cause you love and honor Christ; that's what I learned from being fooled for years of tithing and got burned bad...thank u for not misalign in the bible.

See also Luke 16 and the Parable of the Unrighteous Steward. There is a lot going on in this parable but one point is at 16:10 where Jesus says "he that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much...." All along Jesus has been talking about money. Money is "the least". If you don't trust God with the least (money), you won't trust (have faith) with something bigger. It is a matter of saying thank you Father that I have anything at all...thank you for what you have given me...You are my Source and I trust you to provide for me so I am cheerfully giving this amount. Thank you Andrew for this sermon! I always appreciate your calm presentation.

Thank you for this. I have been conflicted and asking God to guide me, but cannot believe that if I don't give enough I am cursed or robbing God of being allowed to bless me, as I am only giving for a reward from God and if not He can't help me because I have made it impossible for Him to help me. Amen.

Thank you for spreading the truth about Grace giving being the same as grace living. Many people have left church over tithing Manipulation. And today with all that’s going on, this is also one of the issues. Many pastors are speaking about today’s current issue on racism and admitting sweeping the problem under the carpet and the church have fail the people. However, I haven’t heard not a one admit that they are wrong about holding God’s people under the OT law system. This is a systematic issue as well! Pastor, it would be a blessing if you, John MacArthur and other Pastor that are on the same accord share this systematic issue with the world.

Thank you for your honest teaching about this in this video. There are actually a few ministers preaching that if you give money your sins will be forgiven and your soul will go to Heaven. One minister I heard even has said on TV that he will tell God himself in Heaven to let you and your whole family into Heaven if you send him $4,000 at onetime I heard on TV. Or another minister said that if you pledge money to his ministry you will go to Heaven for doing this.
