We are implementing a crouch feature onto our player character and polishing it a bit to make it nice and smooth :)

First things first, your tutorial is extremely helpful. The code you wrote worked for me except the part where the character crouches an extra 30 cm. In that part, I did everything exactly the same but it did not work for me. Is there anything that comes to your mind to fix that? thank you.

Just one small thing I've noticed later. If you press crouch while in mid air the camera does a small one frame jitter motion that can be really nauseating. I've been trying to fix it myself but I would appreciate if you had any insight on getting rid of it.

@@ditron1963 I never did end up figuring it out, sorry to say, I've since moved on to experimenting in the Godot engine so I haven't used Unreal in a while.

@@ditron1963If the issue is the same as what I'm thinking of just add a branch for both of the "on start crouch" and "on end crouch" events, and then add a single "is falling" check and connect the is falling "return value" to the "condition" of both branches. If you connect the "Is Falling" condition we just set up from "false" to your camera location variables your camera won't move while you're in air but you'll still crouch. Sorry it's late, hope this is what you needed if you haven't already got it.

Hello, I did it exactly according to the instructions. The character is half the size and the subsequent crouching is already at Z position 0. This means that I can see the floor in front of me. If I jump up and crouch again, I'm under the floor or object I was on. I've tried changing the camera settings and stuff to no avail. You don't know what could be wrong

THANK YOU, working on a uni project and I've been looking for a first person crouching tutorial for the last 4 hours and I just couldn't get it right, yours was the absolute best, it works flawlessly and exactly as I need it to, I'm gonna watch so many of your videos, thank you so much. Just out of curiosity, I've got a headbobbing tick, so my ticks go like this; (Event Tick -->HeadBob-->On Tick Crouch) is this okay?

I appreciate your insight on Unreal's bult in crouching system, unfortunaly its implementation is so terrible that it forces us to basically rewrite the function just to have it a bit more polished and smoother. Terrible stuff really, this is lightyears better implemented with C++.

not entirely sure if you say that the default unreal crouch system is terrible or if my interpretation of it is terrible 😂😘 All I can say in my defence is that everything.. EVERYTHING.. would be better if it was implemented straight into C++ But we're not all programmers and sometimes is easier to tweek and design features in script. Then, if we should push for AAA-quality, then stuff should be moved to code for multiple reasons.

@@tommynorberg No, your approach is a good solution to Unreal's terrible implementation of the crouching system! For those using Blueprint, it is either that, or they can just give up on using the crouching and UNcrouching functions all together.

Fixed it just make sure to fix relative location if anyone else has this issue
