Thank you for your video 👍it was spot on to the problem we had. Just a suggestion to make removing carburetor easier: unbolt the intake manifold from the jugs first and the carb slides out alot easier. Again thanks for the video, the bike runs again!!!

Thanks for a great video. Those "sensors" are actually carburetor heaters. You only need one of them. the other one, you can block off. Quite possibly, there are two heaters and you use one or the other depending on what type of emission controls are installed.

I turned the throttle screw until it would not stall at idle, a bit less than 180° . it would turn without much effort, i guess that was the problem. The bike feels as good as new now. I changed the sprockets to 17/40 so i'll check the performance with the idle airjet screw mod and let you know. Thank you so much for the tutorial. Taking the carb out was a real hustle

Took my carburetor off, cleaned the idle jet, made sure the accelerator pump circuit was clear and thanks for the help. Tried the wire from a twistie tie, was still too big. Just soaked the idle jet in some carb spray cleaner in a tiny bottle.

I recently bought a 2006 Virago 250. It hesitated when coming off idle. There is a brass plug that is about 1/4 inch in diameter on the right side of the carburetor. It can be accessed while the carburetor is on the bike, but at an angle. Carefully drill the plug out to reveal the idle mixture control beneath it. Turn the screw 1/2 turn clockwise to make the idle rich enough for good performance. Like all carbureted bikes, the idle mixture is set very lean to meet emission standards.

I just bought my friend's 2006 Yamaha Virago 250, and drove it home yesterday. We had to get a new battery and jump start it a few times and it also ran out of gas. I'm going to plug in the battery to the charger, and see if that helps, but my friend said that the stator might be bad, and I was reading that the carburetor might need to be cleaned, and the fuel lines might be clogged. The way the motorcycle was working when it would cut off on the interstate was that it would just suddenly cut the power drastically, I would slow way down, but then the power would kick back in and it would seem fine again, but then cut back off again. I would down shift and mess with the choke, but I had to pull off and have my friend who was following me jump start it again. I'm still really new to motorcycles. This is the first one I've ever owned, and only the third one I have ever driven in my life, and also the most powerful motorcycle that I've driven so far, after my dad's old Honda Trail 70 mini bike, back when I was like 15 years old, an the Yamaha TW200 that I used at the motorcycle class I took last month.

Hi ... thanks for the vid. I have a 2000 yamaha 250 virago and was smelling a very rich mixture. I started to lean out the mix screw 1/8 of a turn at a time and took a ride. Kept doing this until screw bottomed out and no change in rich smell or performance of the byke. How is this possible? (starting point was about 1 and 1/2 turns out). BTW, hope this is a complement to you, but you remind me of Stewart Copeland (x drummer police)

The stock idle jet is really small (.0175") and gets clogged easily, plus, I think it's too small for good running. I'm going to make it just slightly bigger (.0180")and see how it works then.

Great video I need to clean my wife's carburetor on her V Star. A few things caught my attention, the fuel value in the prime position and then you said about how her air box became flooded. Do yourself a favor and check the crank case, check the oil make sure it isn't high or you will ruin the engine. I'm not a shop guy but I have had problems with my Suzuki Vinson 500 with a vacuum carburetor like that and someone left the fuel on prime and flooded my air cleaner box which then flowed over into my crank case. I assume one of the family members did this because it was not running correctly, thanks to the ethanol gas, so I have used an ultrasonic cleaner on that carburetor and others as well, I also carefully rebuilt and cleaned that pet cock valve for the fuel on prime and reserve. I know a guy who ruined an engine that was almost full of oil and gas in the crank case so check it. My advice is any time you flood fuel into the air box get a new filter and change the oil as precaution

@@BEEBEE159 before the jets there is the hall in the carb body. Where the rubber peace plugs the fuel when the carb is full. It's had particles from the tank (rust or sand) maybe fuel filter failed or it wasn't installed at all... Driving to the last drop means running the bike on reserve so all dirt will go to the lowest point. If the filter dosint catch it it will pass to the carb and plug it... The vacuum diaphragm is not a fuel cut off. It is a diaphragm operated fuel pump. The old gravity feed gas is more reliable. The diaphragms can harden with age and stop pumping gas.
@HackaweekTV
@HackaweekTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I like the old ones better. This one has a tendency to leak during winter storage. The fuel runs over in the bowls and ends up getting into the oil in the crankcase!

Hello, I need help please for my father. He has a 250 virago 2007 yamaha. He is getting oil in the air cleaner and would like to know what might be causing that? The compression is 158 and 160 pounds in the cylinders. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Lucille
@BEEBEE159
@BEEBEE159 4 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, that's caused by overfilling the crankcase. Make sure he's putting the correct amount of oil in during oil changes, using the site glass. Note, the bike is supposed to be upright, when you look at the oil level in the sight glass. If you leave the bike leaned over on its kickstand, and fill add oil, then you are going to end putting in too much oil. The crankcase breather hose goes into the frame, and the intake sucks air through the frame, as well. That's how overfilling your engine oil results in motor oil getting into your air filter, the air filter goes directly into the frame. I hope you understand what I'm saying...It's hard to explain.

I don't understand how the "Prime" setting works on the fuelcock. I get that the on and reserve just have two hoses from the gas tank, and one sticks up farther into the gas tank, so the other accesses more of the fuel. It looks like the vacuum from the carb boot pulls the fuel from the tank into the fuelcock, then it also pulls the fuel from there to the fuel pump, and then another vacuum pulls the fuel from the fuel pump to the carburetor. How can the fuel go straight to the carburetor, if the fuelcock doesn't go straight to the carburetor? It just has the two inlets for fuel, one outlet and the vacuum line.
@HackaweekTV
@HackaweekTV 10 ай бұрын
Prime bypasses all the valving from the vacuum diaphragm. Reserve or On rely on engine vacuum to open an internal valve to allow fuel to flow. Engine off, no fuel flow. It's not a fuel pump like most people think. It's a vacuum operated valve.

whorayful Hi. I have my bike currently and almost striped to the bone now because i am building myself a Bobber, BUT i think i solved the problem, there was a little slack in the rear wheel damper assembly and the front chain sprocket to. Plus the return wire for gas throttle was sluggish of rust so it jumpt couple of millimeters when the throttle was turned. I just removed the wire because the bike didnt need it and changed to new parts in the drive chain. I can't test the bike yet because it is in pieces but that was some problem i found yet. //Fredde

Do someone have to clean the carburator even he always uses 100 octane gasoline?
@flanadu
@flanadu 8 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't need to clean carbs very often unless the bike sits a lot, isn't stored properly and the gas gets old and varnishes. In this regard octane doesn't matter but you probably shouldn't be running 100 octane gas in your motorcycle unless you have modified it. It's made to run at normal octanes (93 or less).
@konstantinosva4273
@konstantinosva4273 8 жыл бұрын
Craig Flanick I own a 125cc chinese cub. When i drive uphil on normal octane fuel i always downshift but when im running on 100 octane it isn't necessary (the same uphill)
@eilliwwasniahc
@eilliwwasniahc 4 жыл бұрын
Konstantinos Va octane has nothing to do with it. The problem is that people leave motorcycle in the garage all winter and the gasoline evaporates off leaving deposits to plug things up. This happens to lawn mowers too, and any other small engine with a tiny carburetor with tiny passages. Particularly the PILOT jet. Any octane or any quality fuel will do this if left stagnant in the carburetor over the winter. Cars don't have this problem because we drive them year around, so the fuel is always fresh and flushed through daily.
