I watched an interview of JB where he said he listens to tool. I don't really think that JBT sounds anything like Tool, but i definitely hear the influence in the intro solo and 5:20-5:30. Love it.

Its called a "Weissenborn" lap steel guitar. Amazing instrument. I just play with one of my guitars on my lap though and I have raised the action and modified so it does the same job. I will get one of these guitars at some point though
