Good stuff. My 2021 WR450F is sitting in the shop seized. It started seizing up out of nowhere. The shop is telling me Yamaha believes it's the starter clutch. The verdict is still out. At least now I know what it takes if it did spin a rod bearing which it shouldn't have. I maintained my bike by the book. If I didn't live in a apartment and had a work area me thinks your video would have allowed me to do the job. Your tip on spitting the cases is gold. I was also wondering how the counterbalance aligned with the crank. Surprised you missed it. Thanks for the video!!!

Hello. Most the tools needed are basic hand tools. Tools are never a waste of money and can be around for life. The only "special " tools needed for a basic rebuild on a MX bike is a flywheel puller and a torque wrench. As you will see in my videos not even case splitters are needed. Just collect up on a good assortment of hand tools, sockets. Wrenches, Allen head tools and run out and buy as you find you need. They last a lifetime

What’s up man, I got a 2018 yz450f, I was riding and it started pinging, not knocking, for a while. Was so far from the truck had to ride it all the way home. Long story short, the bike won’t turn over, it feels seized but the starter has just enough to turn the motor over very slowly, it won’t roll in 5th gear. I did a top end rebuild, cylinder was fine, adjusted valves, new exhaust cam and chain. Still almost feels seized, but the it’s not. What could it be? Oil pump failure? Seized crank case bearing? I watched all you videos on rebuilding, did them step by step. I’m stumped here. Would love some help.
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 9 ай бұрын
I would have spun the crank while the top end was apart to feel things but we are past that now. Hmm. I'm going to get you have a lower rod bearing going out and causing drag. Its the most common I find when things like this come up. I would start by pulling the top end off again and checking the lower rod bearing real well. Holding the timing chain up and spinning the motor, checking for drag and how she feels. You may end up having to go into the bottom end but I would start by pulling the top end and checking there first

Hi, i'm not a professional rider and i'm buying a 2021 yz450f with new timing chain and piston, literally 0 hours. I would like to know if i have to be worried about maintenance, such as piston replacement, timing chain replacement, cranckshaft replacement ecc. ecc. I'm gonna be using it on the streets and i'm not gonna squeeze the engine like on a dedicated dirt bike track. what do you think? of course i would make the ordinary maintenance like oil and oil filter when needed.
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 5 ай бұрын
Hello. Even if riden like a street bike they will still have tighter service intervals than a normal street bike. They only hold about 900cc's of motor oil and oil will need to be replaced about every 3 to 4 hours of run time. They dont have a cooling can like a normal street bike so the bike would need to be shut off if sitting at a red light in the summer months. A aftermarket fan can be added to fix this issue though. But overall maintenance will be higher than a normal street bike because it is designed to make a lot of power in a small package carrying as little weight as possible.

Another excellent video. Ill be using it when I rebuild the bottom end on my bike. I do have a qurstion. What is your opinion on the quality of OEM cranks for the 2020-22 YZ450? Mine is at around 67 hours with no issues, but I have read a lot of people having problems with the OEM rods snapping. Have you seen this happen or helped someone deal with it? Im trying to decide if I want to just get my current crank rebuilt with an aftermarket rod, or just buy another OEM assembly. Thanks again for all of your awesome videos. @UpAllNight91 Ай бұрын
Thanks! I personally have not seen a problem with the 2020 to 2022 YZ450 cranks or rods. The YZ450s in them years that I work on have been pretty solid. I do suggest replacing the crankshaft with the rod every 200 hours on a track bike but at 67 hours you should be good to go. And when its time to replace it I would suggest OEM for sure.

Have you ever had a oil pump burn out on the new yz250f. I do a lot of wheelies and i was told that it could of burnt out because of them
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 Жыл бұрын
I havent seen that yet on the newer yz250f but a few years back I use to do a lot of motor rebuilds for the bike life guys around here. They wheelie the bikes for miles lol. I would find worn oil pumps, and the motor showed signs of oil starvation. Often times the lower rod bearing would go out due to oil starvation and cam journal wear. When these 4 stroke bikes are wheelied for a long time all the motor oil goes to the back of the motor and the oil pick up screen is unable to pick up oil. On some of the bikes that kept breaking down due to this I suggested running higher oil level than recommended by manufacturer and that seemed to help greatly.

Hi, I enjoyed the rebuild... I know of a 2006 yz450f that has a locked avail. for $800 Is that a good price knowing it will need a new crank and bearings and possibly a new cylinder and piston? I think I can follow your guide and duo the job myself. Is $800 A very good deal or is there a price you feel I should offer if everything else on the bike is in great shape? Please give me advice. Thanks Kenny in Mississippi....

Hello. if its in good shape its worth $800 just for its parts. For a fixer it depends. Sometimes what sounds like just a new piston and crank can work its way up to a cylinder head, valves, and cases included. Sometimes it can get expensive fast, so you have to be ready for that. You will also probably have to get the carb straightened since its probably been sitting around. It can be a project but if you have the time and willing to put the money into it, its achievable.

Hey man so i just pulled my 06 450f motor and the piston looks mint but the crank has blue marks at the rod bearing so they got hot. Its a wiseco top and bottom. Should i buy a bottom end?
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 10 ай бұрын
Usually the bluing on the crank was from them heating it during the assembly. As long as the rod and rod bearing feel good. Shes good.

I went back through my memory and didnt remember timing it in so I got back into the motor. If you didnt line up them dots on the two gears I would open it back up and do it. It only takes a half hour if you stay on it.

Why not replace the oil pump? It was ran dry of oil also

The oil drain plug wasn't installed to the proper specs. They don't just "vibrate out".
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 6 ай бұрын
They can vibrate out if not torque down enough. I didn't do the oil change that caused this to happen, it was the owner. His previous bike he stripped the oil drain bolt and was scared to strip this one so he under tightened it. As for me I don't use a torque wrench on drain bolts. I go by feel but I been doing this my whole life and have good mechanical intuition. I don't strip them and also don't have them come loose either.

Dude what the hell are you doing!!!! Replace the timing chain it's all kinked up plus it ran dry , why did you skip motor bearings what the heck man ! You never skip bearings and timing chain on a motor
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 2 жыл бұрын
On a typical rebuild yes, bearings and chain. However this chain felt good as new (no kinks or stretch) and so did the crank bearings. Bike hardly had 50 hours on it. The owner just wanted the bare minimum to get her good again. I'm pretty confident as long as the drain plug stays put she will be good for many hours, as shes already put on another 20 and so far so good

Fantastic video. Great detail. BUT the rule of thumb I was always taught never ever go that deep and not replace the big end bearings,my only gripe man lots of work to not replace the cheapest but most important bearings . And over looking the the timing dots on the harmonic balancer woooooo just lucky not the timing side . Other than that👍
