I know this video is about reeds but I just learned something in this video my 1991 yamaha wr250z (yz250 with a wide ratio transmission) all stock 3xk head has a higher compression ratio from factory then a stock 2005 yz250 the 05 compression ratio is 10.6:1 the 91 compression ratio is 10.9:1 I know it’s only higher by a few but that’s crazy the newer the bike the lower the compression ratio is going to be

That's awesome you made contact with Stuck Nutz. I'm really hoping you develop a good working relationship with them and they become a sponsor of your channel. Also look into Blud lubricants, they seem like a newer company really interested in the motorcycle industry. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion of the products and their company. They might be another company you could get a sponsorship from in the future. I know they're sponsoring The Motocross Network KZfaq channel and certain privateer racers. Good luck!!!

Right on. Yeah I emailed Stuck Nutz after my made my purchase and they replied right away. Solid customer support for sure. I just checked out Blud site, its cool they sell "racing" oils. This usually means it flys under the EPA radar and can have all the good stuff in the oil like Zinc and stuff because its not meant for use on the road. This is one of the reasons I use Shell Rotella, it has all the good stuff.

I would love to have you test the new 4X by moving the spacer from between the cylinder and the reed cage to between the reed cage and the manifold. In other words move the spacer from the front of the reed cage to the back of the reed cage. The front of the reed cage being the side that the reeds stick out of. I'd be interested to see if you could get the best of both worlds just by moving the spacer. Since you get better bottom end without the spacer and better top and mid with the spacer maybe by putting the spacer at the back of the reeds you get the increased bottom end when the reeds are closest to the cylinder and the increased top and mid with the carb spaced further from the cylinder. I'd also like to see you do the same test with the version 3 reed cage. I don't know if it would word but I think it would make interesting videos. Another great video!!!
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 3 ай бұрын
Hello. I would need a spacer with the inner hole the same size as the intake port of the reeds for that to work ok. But I'm thinking it wont do too much. It will have the pre compression of using the reeds without the spacer but will move the carb further back from the reeds some. What I am thinking about is a mid size spacer. Like taking the stock spacer and having it shaved in half. Best of both worlds. They might even sell one someone, gotta look around some.

Interesting! Regarding the initial comparison, I wonder if altering the reed block to match the curvature of the boot would somehow be equivalent to or have a similar effect to porting? Like if smoothing out and matching up all the surfaces properly may or may not have an effect on the overall power delivery? or, it could just create mad problems either way I dont have enough spare parts to try it.
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 3 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing and dont want to screw up a good set of reeds trying to figure it out. So I have decided to instead try my best to match the intake boot to the reed cage of the 4X. I have ordered up a intake boot to do the testing on.

Is the “X” version like a woods riding version? No “R”? Or is it just the “4X” is the current and only VForce for the yz250?

man, you know your shit around these bikes! As an experienced mechanic, which motocross bike would you say has lowest running costs and best reliability in long term perspective?
@UpAllNight91
@UpAllNight91 4 ай бұрын
Thanks. Hmm. Well overall the Yamaha's YZ lineup are currently the most reliable. Right behind that would probably be the KX450. With the Yamahas the two bikes that kinda tie out overall but for different reasons is the YZ450 and the YZ125. I'm going to say the YZ450 is the least amount of maintenance from week to week and just holds up well overall but can be expensive if a major repair is ever required as most four strokes are. The YZ125 can nickel and dim you week to week needing 2 cycle oil and pistons changed out more frequently but are so cheap purchase the bike as a whole, super easy to work on, and parts are the cheapest of them all.

I would have spent the time richening up the bottom end for the 4X without the spacer if I was planning on using it that way for sure. But I am looking for more top end than that so I focused more on the 4X with the spacer. I will be playing with some mild jetting with that now but its so close the way it is I might not be able to find better.

Weird that you find the using the spacer adds top end, every magazine test I've ever read in the last 35 years including yz250 ones always say the exact opposite, and ive seen tons of aftermarket Reed spacers called "torque spacers" because they add bottom end power and take away top. I've never seen a reed spacer claim to add top end......ever.
