Having painted well over 1000 1/18 scale diecast replicas in the last 15 years I have found some things that are more successful. When repainting a diecast car I have found in most cases, if prepared correctly, you can repaint over the diecast factory applied finish. so glad i saw this. i am fairly new to painting diecast but know quite a bit about automotive spraying and could never understand why everyone strips the car to metal. at least now i can change to your way. by the way, the car is an E type jag not an XKE.

One of my biggest problems that i have when repainting diecast cars, is that when i sand the paint down, it usually becomes to smooth and slippery, so the primer and paint won`t stick to it. Do i perhaps need a more coarse ( rough ) sandpaper than 180 grit, or is there perhaps another good trick to make it stick better ?

I agree with this method, i tried the usual way to stip the paint but its a pain because you have to use etching primer which is not easy to sand off then use regular primer. Its just too manh coatings which lose details and only few etching primers brands really stick to diecast well. Id rather sand off the original paint now then strip it. Iam a begginer and its little info out there for large scale diecast modifications so i apreciate you effort for doing these videos. My problem now is orange skin effect after paint and lacquer so would polishing the body remove this effect?

What would you recommend for repainting a car with decal headlights? Should I try masking the old lights so the stripper doesn't take them off? How could I get new headlight decals? I have fine scale modeling experience, could I try painting them on? Any ideas are welcome.

For the primer you still use 400 grit sand paper ?

I’m in a quandary over just how to repair some isolated defects on a Johnny Lightning 50’s Comic Book version BATMOBILE. It’s a die cast and I don’t want to have to strip all of the paint off it in order to fix 2 or 3 small areas. I’m not comfortable trying to remove all of the “chrome” parts and I’m hoping that there is a way to mask off the isolated areas and repaint them with the same gloss black it’s in now. My concern is how to “feather” the paint so that it’s a seamless transition. Any tips?

Can you tell me what you charge to paint a 1:18 scale 1969 Camaro? I have one that I'd like to change the color on, its in perfect factory condition, never handled so I guess you'd call it NOS. I want to paint it LeMans Blue with aa white "hockey" stripe on the front fenders extending to the doors. I might try it myself... but just curious what you'd charge. Thanks...Mike

There is a diecast Chevy Silverado model by Masita that I really wanted to paint over. I am scared though because it is online, I have no idea how to paint diecast cars and this model is expensive. I was wondering if you could strip a Masita made diecast to its bare body like you did?

Yes Lotfi Kaz, You sand the primer then paint. I apologize for not posting an updated video as my time has been focused on Facebook. I actually created a tutorial page there to help first timers repaint diecast cars.

I find the images online, upload them to my photoshop program, clean them up, resize them and print on paper to test fit then print on decal paper and mount just like model car decals. I clearcoat over them which seals them on then. Hope this helps answer your question, better late then never, LOL.

i have some model cars to restore but i need litle pieces missing lights and things like those were can i find them is some way to reebild them?

how do you remove the glass on the windows of the car that is riveted on the cars body

I very carefully drill out the rivet. When youre putting it back in, just use glue.

Yes, a 15 year old Pasche with an #5 tip but I shoot automotive paint, basecoat and clearcoat. with it.

Yes I do use an airbrush for all painting, colors and clears.

you can use a small brush and some tamya gloss black paint or any color , cover the emblem with a small piece of tape , or tape up the whole car and paint the wheels with spray paint

I use oven cleaner to strip paint then spray the colour and lacquer it

I paint my diecast cars with multiple methods including powder coat I also have a sandblaster to help get paint off more efficiently if you are repainting diecast cars a lot I highly recommend saving up for a sandblaster even one that needs a little work but that is not the only reason I got a sandblaster

Hi guys. I just bought a model die cast truck that's the same model as my husband's truck. It came in white but I want to paint it the same color as his. I'm not an expert, so is there an easy way to do that?

If you want to do it right you need to take everything apart (is not difficult, just record with your cellphone how you are dissamble everything and just watch the video to put it back together ) then buy AIRCRAFT paint remover from pet boys, etc and sprayed just the parts that you want to do the color change. The aircraft will make everything easy for you, wash it with a tooth brush and water; sand it with a 2000 sand paper.. then comes the painting part with Dupli color paint can. For this you will need to follow instructions of how to paint with a can (is not difficult either, specially with such small parts) after a couple of days of curing then you can put the truck together. What do you use as a puddy to fill the holes?

+Zachariaha Smith , sorry for the delay replying I just saw the message. For small pinholes I use 3M spot putty. For later deeper holes I use bondo, same kind you can buy at any auto parts store. Hope this helps and thanks for asking.

Right now I am reprinting a Jaguar E type similar to yours, my one is the same colour and made by the same company, the only difference between mine and your is mine is a convertible.

Mine is sitting in primer still because I have been so busy with customer projects. Hopefully after New Years I can get it painted and post more videos.

Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to learn about car spray painting course try Sovallo Auto Painting Fixer (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
