I did some comment section math on the cactus farm when he posted the video with the idea. It came out to need three other cactus farms all with the same magnitude of difference just to be able to start working on the final one. I believe the acceptable AFK time I worked with was about 12 hours for each step.

Can't you use the triple observer kelp farm, but just have the flowing water a couple blocks higher? That way even if the kelp were to grow every tick the piston could punch it out before it grows to the top and transforms your flowing water into a source block. It would make it bulkier but it would be less effort than placing signs.

A self repairing flying machine will work too. I did this once and it worked but was some effort to get it working. You basicly use obsidian to run redstone over the pistons to restart a stuck fly machine. You may loose a cycle but in the end it is much less effort than the tons of pistons and observers needed. A other option would be the stair design by mumbo

For the kelp farm: you could put the observer above the piston, power a block behind it with redstone dust underneath. Now surround the dust so it powers the piston and the blocks beside it, powering the pistons the next row over. That design would use a lot less material but might cause a little more lag because of the used dust. The good part is that its more or less stackable, you simply have to push it back one block and tileable, since you can just repeat a 2 wide slice. It also wouldnt break when unloaded. The only disadvantage i see with it is that only half of the plants are observed so the rates might fluctuate a bit...

Sorry for my bad english... I have a crazy project idea, a 3D printer in minecraft, afk autocliker that place up to 16 block(2^(4) for the easy coding). the 1° problem will be how to load the player with a single block each time and i thought it can be made by a roof made of droppers and hoppers with a serpent shape stream made of ice and fences (or orher blocks that can be moved and allow block to fall thought), and a macchine that redirect the right dropped block on the serpentine with flowing water and ice. The 2° will be how to place blocks mid air, probably the solution is adding another bit on the string code (the recipe that the printer has to read) to code the emptiness and traslate it with a falling block where a support for a block on top is needed, 3°problemS are all the remaining work of making all the code related instruction for the printer, sincronizing the different parte of the machine and making the 3d printer actuallu usable by making a flying machine to move the product away. Sorry for my poor language but i hope that could inspire simeone more talmente than me at redstoning to expand this comunity

The Kelp farm I built was a hybrid between your flying-machine-farm and the observer based one. I took the item-collection part from the flying-machine farm but staggered the kelp in such a way that each plant gets harvested by a separate piston. I also made the water tank tall enough that a plant can never grow into the flushing water at the top, ~40 from the ground plate to the top. This design is tileable but if you don't want to overengeneer the redstone for the pistons you need a repeater every 15 blocks.

I swear, even when you're aware of the issues of farms staying loaded, you're going to break one eventually anyways. I built your earlier moss-based bonemeal farm with the double-speed stone generators on my SMP. Turned it on just to test it out, without a chunk loader in place yet. Of course it's at that very moment that the server decides to disconnect me, after a stable connection for hours. I log back in in a panic to see water going everywhere, lava turned into obsidian, and a bunch of blocks pushed out of place. Cue a half hour of repairing it. 😩 Though I will remark, sometimes farm builders in general have a tendency to neglect the concept of failing gracefully. I was able to add some unpushable blocks in various places around your design that mean that even if it breaks again for some reason, it'll do so less destructively (only the stone generators may need resetting but no blocks will go out of place).

Here's an idea for a mod: load regions. Basically, if one chunk in a given region is loaded, then the entire region is loaded. Only when every chunk is marked for unload will any of them actually unload. This would be cheaper than perma-loaders. I don't know how feasible this is because I don't know the details of the chunk unloading algorithm, but it seems like it'd help greatly with huge, complex farms that span multiple chunks. It could save needing a fakeplayer if a player is near any of the chunks or if one of the chunks is a spawn chunk.

oh that's so cool! we're making a kelp + cactus based xp farm on my server too, we use the flying machine one because it's not launching often (every 10 minutes or so for us), so it's quite unlikely to unload while it's running, and even if it does, it's a very simple machine to rebuild if needed. And also, we turn it on / off when needed, it's just a support for an ice farm, so we turn it on and off with the ice farm Also, one simple thing to do to boost the kelp drying is to use smokers, that's not often we got a use of those, but they cook the kelp twice as fast as normal furnaces, so we need twice as less of those. And they look cooler than normal furnaces too :p

If you build your kelp farm tall enough, you don't need to worry about it breaking the waterstreams. Although that does mean more building relative to the rates you get. As a taller kelp plant doesn't grow faster than a short one. Which isn't an issue if you have oceans to build in. But it isn't really useful for skyblock.

It would be cool if you could loop a cart/carts with a hopper through the water to pick up the kelp and have it land on a track to deposit it into the furnace to be cooked. And then to make things crazy loop the track around to carry the cooked kelp into the furnaces to cook the cacti.

Love all your videos mango. have you thought about including a time stamp in your timelapses so we can kinda see how long stuff takes? I think it’s often undervalued how much time you actually spend on your builds. keep up the amazing content 👊

If you place the next kelp module above and to the side of the first, you can place the waterlogged signs against the back of the 2nd observer. This would put 2-block channels at the top and bottom of the kelp farm, but you can remove the need for glass and make the whole structure more dense.

Could use a design where the piston is under the kelp instead like a bamboo farm which should be safer for against source blocks especially if there's a one block safety gap above the observer

I've got an idea for your flying machine: You can build an online detector based on a cat sitting and standing up on top of a chest all the time. At the moment the owner logs out the cat keeps sitting on the chest. This can be detected and stops the flyingmachine to get launched for the next cyclus. So you don't have to worry about a stucked flyingmachine.

But how will you activate and deactivate the flying machine?
@19Yami94
@19Yami94 Жыл бұрын
If the online detector sends the signal the player is online, the next flight will happen. If he's offline so not. As far as I know, the time it takes to make chunks unloaded after you go offline, are 16 sec. Without the detector it's forbidden to go offline while the flyingmachine takes more than 16 sec. for arrival or less for departure. Otherwise the flyingmachine will start its flight, the chunks get unloaded and the flyingmachine gets stucked. So it's better that the flyingmachine takes not longer as 16 sec. between arrival and departure. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I'm sure that this mechanism can be implemented. Ilmango is the Redstone-Pro not me 😂 I hope you understand this. My English is not the very best. As Ilmango I'm a German too.

@@19Yami94 that would be a solution but doesn't that make it a very limiting factor? Wouldn't the turn out too small? No problem neighbor, I'm Dutch so it's okay lol

You might be able to make a waterfall-shaped design: triple-observer-piston modules, but placed two blocks up and one block over from one another, on a diagonal, allowing water to flow horizontally and be in line with the kelp. Basic unit of tiling: [water flowing left] [water source] [water source] [piston] [kelp (in water)] [observer] [observer] [observer]

For the kelp farm: you can place the water before you place the signs using ice the same way that you’d fill the layers with water normally. You might also be able to use scaffolding which would probably make it a bit faster to build.

For the kelp farm, could you have a piston push a slime block wall periodically to break any source blocks from misbehaving kelp? You could even have the kelp-destroying pistons push a 2 high wall to reset the water stream at the cost of a bit more width to the farm.

So easy solution for the cactus on off switch would be a simple t-flip flop, dispenser and lava bucket to get rid of excess cactus. Or a furnace array to store cactus green to slowly delete the dye to get some easy, slow XP.

For the kelp farm, I suggest the stupidly simple but 100% efficient sugar cane farm, just with kelp. Kelp grows, on the block above is a piston to break it, one above that there is an observer to detect when it reaches 3 tall. The observer points into a block that powers the piston by QC, and a redstone line under the block, that gets powered and updates the piston to extend it. thinking about it, the problem this might have is that the piston turns the second block of water from source to flowing, which could make it so the items don't flow up, making the collection way harder. Which would get fixed when the kelp grows one block, and is broken when it reaches the third. At the very least it's way cheaper than the triple observer design shown in the video. Could there be a way to let the items flow up and just stand there and later just push them out with a slime block? If the concept works you just have to push them once every anything less than 5 minutes, so a simple hopper clock would do the trick, and should be safe to unload.

WOOO first time seeing someone use this kelp farm design. I've seen a similar one, perfected it and started building a big kelp farm, but quickly ran out of resources, so there's just 10sb of observers randomly placed in my end dimension since 2020

My idea for kelp farm would be impractical. I would have it collected at the top and washed into dispensers. That would make kelp rain from the sky. And maybe even have some kelp shooting up from the ground.
