The Grumman F6F Hellcat
The Grumman F6F Hellcat is an American carrier-based fighter aircraft of World War II. Designed to replace the earlier F4F Wildcat and to counter the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero, it was the United States Navy's dominant fighter in the second half of the Pacific War. The Hellcat competed with the faster Vought F4U Corsair for that role and prevailed, as the Corsair had significant issues with carrier landings. The Corsair instead was primarily deployed to great effect in land-based use by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Powered by a 2,000 hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800, the same powerplant used for both the Corsair and the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighters, the F6F was an entirely new design, but it still resembled the Wildcat in many ways.[4] Some military observers tagged the Hellcat as the "Wildcat's big brother".

Absolutely stunning craftsmanship. With today's super detailed kits, especially in the larger scales, scratch build has almost become a lost art. Especially at this level. It's an art form that when it disappears will render true artisan ship to history and the hobby will be poorer for it, Thanks for taking the time to edit and upload this video.

Thanks Randy. You know for some of us, modellers, there is no such thing as enough details :) Although there is a bit of sadness when you close your work inside the fuselage never to be seen again :) (Trying to limit that to minimum myself)

I bought the HobbyBoss Hellcat to build a diorama of one in a bomb crater, but the wings are too gorgeous to not fold them. So I bought the Eduard kit with the whole wing to use for the diorama, getting lots of great tips from your build episodes.

You are one tricky rick Bad-Ass-Modeler. You remind me of a friend of mine who builds model ships. He goes to the same painstaking detail that you do. After watching you guys I think I'll just build Lego's from now on. LMAO! Seriously, you're an artist and a damn fine modeler and I truly enjoy watching your work. Thank you for sharing! You are one serious modeller, I salute you! Where do you get your tech info for the engines? I myself started off using the original Airfix models with written instructions and obtained a lot of useful info for component names. I've now restarted after a very long break. So it's very good to find someone like you on youtube!

Thanks Robert. The R-2800 is very popular engine so there is quite a lot of info about it (but there are a lot of modifications as well). The tach details I got from an old diagram... it was somewhere in the top search results. Thanks for commenting.

Does this F6F-3 come with the Resin Engine kit or is it separate?
@MMScaleModels
@MMScaleModels 6 жыл бұрын
This is the standard plastic engine from the kit, Eduard sells resin upgrade set for the engine separately but it is overkill if you don't open up some panels IMHO.

Oh, thanks for the response, MM, but I was just being a smart ass. I would never use someone else's work--no matter how incredible it is--in one of my own kits. It was just my way of saying that I considered your detailing and scratch-building to be outstanding.

Stupid question maybe... i never scratch build anything. What makes you chose between Copper or lead wire
@MMScaleModels
@MMScaleModels 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Francis, thanks for your question. There are several reasons. First there is the diameter, at least the lead wires I have, start from 0.3mm, and the copper wire is more like 0.1mm. And there is also the question of color... if you need copper color... well you don't need to paint the copper wire :). Hope this answers your question.

I feel for you mate. If holding paintbrush is ok probably you can search for 3d printed engines. They usually come in one piece with wires and all. You just have to paint them
