The sway bar keeps the two front wheels from being at vastly different heights - on the highway when you hit a pothole, it helps to correct the tire not in the hole. So let’s say the right front tire gets thrown into a deep pothole at 60mph, you don’t want your front left flying into the air. The sway bar makes the ride way better. For off road, it restricts that motion in the same way, but for the toughest of obstacles, it’s a major disadvantage to try and keep those front wheels in the same height. When you disconnect it, it lets them really hang freely at whatever height they please, so in this demo they show how disconnecting it puts tires back onto the ground instead of being mid air. The more tires you can get on the ground when going over steep obstacles = more traction! Jeeps have sway bar disconnect, but not “under load”. What this means is that the bronco can disconnect the sway bar while it is literally in the air with pressure on the bar. For a jeep, you need to disconnect it before going on a crazy incline.
