Welcome to Part 1, 1:6 Head Sculpt Repainting from "The Complete Guide to 1:6 Modeling"
presented by: M.A.S.S. = Mid Atlantic Sixth Scale
In this episode, I will be explaining how I repaint 1:6 scale Head Sculpts and weather them to add a little more realism and bring out the details in the sculpts
.
The final result in this video is not the best, as it is hard to paint & record a video at the same time, but this is a "How To" video, to show fellow modelers the process, and not meant to be my final quality result.
My "Complete Guide to 1:6 Modeling" , will be a multi-part video toutorial showing how I do:
Head Sculpt Repaints
Body Mods
Poseing your Figures
Dioramas & Display Bases
Photgraphy & Lighting
Please Subscribe for future Videos in the series
...and thanks for visiting.
THAW at M.A.S.S. = Mid Atlantic Sixth Scale
A full lenght DVD will be available once all the episodes have been recorded, and will include Bonus chapters not posted online. Please contact me for further details about the DVD and to get on the DVD list.
*These toutorials are a collection of my ideas and tips & tricks I have gathered from fellow modelers, from all over the world.
Thank You All...

A good, really good video on how to re-paint the head. Especially at the end that easy and fast way how to get out more details of the figure's head...

Thank you for this! I originally came here to find head swap videos but ended up so intrigued by these repaint videos I watched those all morning instead! I love seeing your artistic approaches and I was nodding along as far as how similar yet different they are to mine, most notably dropping that dark in the cracks and crevices and wiping it off. I believe it's called 'rub & buff' but I am not sure, that's just what I call it when doing inside ears, etc., I also do it on hands with closed fingers to make them stand out more, and toes, too. I mean if the factory molded those toes with indentations and toenails and all, which virtually disappear when left untouched, why not bring them out? Some even have the cracks on the joints where fingers bend, and those show up better too with a dab of dark. Eyes are scary to me, as far as how delicate, I admire your theory on that. I do my highlight (with white) using the head of a large pin or sewing needle (and usually quick erase it right away when I see how off it is!). Too I have found using a gloss medium on the eyes makes photographing them a little difficult, depending. Sometimes the light source, whether it is natural or artificial, like a camera flash, will make them into zombies, so, I stick with the painted glare or highlight method, tricky as it may be. I have also found a VERY light wash of blue mixed with black applied over the jaw and chin makes a nice five o'clock shadow. But a VERY thin wash, as you said, thinner than milk, thicker than water. I don't mind getting down and dirty and using my fingertips to quick tamp with to lift it OFF but leave enough ON for a convincing look. I have never tired denatured alcohol before for anything or really even heard of it, I don't think, so thank you again for all the cool tips and taking the time to make this and your others as well!

Id like to repaint the batman V superman Wonder woman barbie (as it's the only 1/6 figure in the series) My question is, will acetone melt the type the vinyl that is used for the dolls? I realize that the hait should be kept away from it - though i may want to remove hat eventually. Any helps or tips would be appreciated

Hi love the videos, but have found out here in the uk you have to own a form to use the denatured alcohol. What could i use instead? thanks.
@Emerald.She-Ra

Fish Tales I'm in Scotland, and denatured alcohol is methylated spirits/white spirit. You can buy this at DIY shops and online. As one of the ingredients is isopropyl alcohol, I'm guessing you could also use that. It evaporates quickly and many women use it to repair broken powder cosmetics with no side effects, so I'm surmising it should be alright. Lol

klayer91 There is no real science to it...I just add the color to "dirty" it up and make a grimy wash color. If I had to guess, I would say 1 part color to 25 parts denatured alcohol....
