I love the way the Highland regiments have had such a massive influence on police forces and army's in Canada, US, South Africa, Australia and NZ despite independence.

What a rather nasty wee small minded comment from Bruce MacAllan. I am English though I moved to Scotland in 1968. I love all things English, the land of my birth, and *all things Scottish*, my chosen adopted home. Why on Earth should such nasty wee comments be posted on a very fine video which promotes everything good about Scotland? This video is neither the time nor the place for political statements. I thank the original posters for their fine efforts.

See that sort of bullshit there mate.Just ignore that garbage.I like many Scots are proud of our heritage.I am also proud of what the U.K has achieved as'well. Most Scots avoid like the plague arses like Bruce. They are just bitter to the core and blame things on the English that happened hundreds of years ago when things were a lot different. My Grandfather served with English,Welsh and Irish in the War and when the shit hit the fan it was all British hands to the pumps.

henrytree Ignore mate there's always the occasional asshole who manages to embarrass a full country with his "chip on his shoulder " I can say he doesn't speak for most Scots.....although Scottish also proud of my British passport.....you've lived here long enough to know we're decent folk who'd welcome most in to our country....only those who're offended by our churches and Christian celebrations are not welcome.....they'll claim our free benefits, Education and Health service yet burn our flags and protest our soldiers ain't welcome here....we're good enough to take them in so they should show respect or go back to their 3rd world utopia

Tunes: Rab's Wedding / John D. Burgess. Dance set: Highland Laddie march on/off, dance tune "Marquis of Huntley's" for the Highland Fling. Exit first tune I'm too old to know, last tune is "Jenny Dang the Weaver." While I hate the stratosphere pitch of the recent decades (I have either perfect pitch or close enough and I imprinted on years-years-ago below-b-flat), still this band has great sound.

It means "Stags Antlers for ever" in Scots Gaelic, it was the motto of the Seaforth Highlanders one of the Scottish regiments that was amalgamated into the Queens Own Highlanders, which were then in turn amalgamated into The Highlanders, now a battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

@segano1 I make uilleann pipes, you're off on the origins. They came directly from "pastoral pipes" which arose immediately after the baroque Oboe. Uilleann's were gentlemens' instruments that cost a year's wages for a laborer in the 1700's and 1800's when Scottish pipes were still primitive. Want to see the main bass drone bore proportions of a WW1 Henderson Scottish pipes? 1850's uilleann pipes. Scotland is important to the uilleann pipes but in a different way than you think.

@fenbogle Other way round Taig, the Irish had nowt to do with Scotland before the Great Famine. Irish culture is a 19th century invention based off of Scotland's during the Gaelic revival period of 1890~1921. 'Irish' is a 16th century papal name imposed by Pope Leo X. The North of Ireland was historically the land of the Scots (hence the first writer to call N.Ireland/Hibernia as 'Scotia' was Isidore of Seville in the 6th century). Scotland was never the land of the Irish however.

Governments have fucked around for years with the centuries old traditions of all these fine regiments. And what for ? To dissipate familial links and pride in serving in a regiment your father and grandfather served in. To save a few bob by having them all wear the same uniform. Decisions made by bean counters who don't understand these things. Do what ye will. They are always going to be the best.
