Heat the food packet in the water. (Use British mess tins. They are the right shape) Eat from the packet with that disposable racing spork. Use the water to make your tea. No mess to clean up. Saves water.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it defeats the point to not eat it in the packaging as in the field you can't be using a million pans for each meal and having to clean everything up

That is why the ORPs are known as "Boil in the Bag!" However, it would appear that the reviewer did not read the instructions contained in the bag, or just chose to ignore them!

But he is not out surviving on the ration pack for their convenience. Guy is out picking shrooms and making resin candles. He is taking his sweet leisure time. This is NOT a kit review or how to do things properly. ❤ Not everyone finds eating out of sachets enjoyable.

back in the day there were just 4 different 24 hour ration packs and just about everything came in tins. You're right we boiled the tins in our mess tins and used the water for a brew. As for mushrooms as several other people have said they're dangerous We were told the nutrition you got from them wasn't worth the risk unless you really knew what you were eating.

Read the instructions contained within the ORP. They tell you how to prepare the food therein. You wasted a lot of water. The food is designed to be eaten hot or cold. Place the food sachet into your cooking utensil, then top it up with water and place the utensil on your stove. When the water has boiled for a few minutes take the utensil off your stove, remove your sachet from the boiled water, open the sachet, and eat your food. Saves having to clean your cooking utensil and you can have a hot drink! Put hot or cold water into the muselie packet for the same reason.

I love how many of these MRE reviews complain that the food could be so much better. As a former soldier, they're not made to be cordon bleu, they're designed to shovel in as many calories as possible as quickly as possible, with less fuss as possible. The trade off is that the food isn't exactly restaurant standard. It simply serves a purpose. If we wanted the restaurant experience, we had Pot Noodles from the NAAFI shop.

good luck with your constipation those biscuit browns where designed by the British army in or around WWI to cause mild constipation so you did not need to go to the loo as often during battle (also helped in WWII and the spitfire pilots when they took to lubricating the superchargers with caster oil causing the unfortunate side effect of raging trots for anyone who flew in them)

I had to freeze the video and check the writing on the package as they looked more like some kind of cracker to me, but sure enough they are biscuits brown. The design has changed since the 90's as back then they were a lot smaller and looked more like darker more solid digestives. Just about everyone loved them, but yeah you didn't need a number two anytime soon after eating them.
