Hot dogs are a staple at any baseball game, or at really any stadium, but they’ve been overpriced for too long.

I would consider this "but better" bc sure overall the price can be cheaper, but it's balanced out by the amount of time one needs to take to make the recipe (even just the sausage itself) let alone the specific "optional" instruments listed. I think time needs to be included on "cheaper" because it's not just money that goes into cooking but also time/patience

I'm a meat cutter at Publix (grocery store in S.E. US) we will grind pork shoulder and chuck roast and any other raw meat we sell at no cost if you ask. I'm sure many grocery stores will do it for you. Side note if you apply the typical multiplier of 3x for business expenses most of the food service industry uses, your "but cheaper" comes up to nearly $6. So it makes sense for a business to have to charge $6

After watching most of your videos, I started asking for certain appliances for Christmas present and Birthday. Thank you because I got what I wanted. I received a stand mixer for Christmas (2022) but it's not Kitchen Aid. I asked for a Meat Grinder for my Birthday (March 31 2023) & I am waiting for it as I type (this after 3 hours on the phone yesterday with Amazon Canada) I cannot wait to make this. I am excited! Both appliances were fairly inexpensive. I make my own bread, buns, yogurt, butter etc. and now I can really kick things up a couple more notches. Thank you Josh for all your hard work of planning, testing and executing each recipe for us all. This is definitely cheaper and healthier! Don't listen to the haters - they don't know because they haven't tried to research amazon or other stores. OH! I asked for a pasta maker for Mother's Day too :)

It's not that expensive really. It's $400.... like... how much is your iPhone or android smart phone? How much is your car? How much is your mortgage? Or rent payment? Like... honestly, put into perspective of all of the things we buy, it isn't that much money. Especially considering that it's a one time purchase, not like a car or a phone or laptop or iPad etc. That is VERY expensive and we all pay extra in interest for all of these things. And your complaining about a kitchenaid that's a little less than a flat screen TV? That most of us have multiple of.... I mean... I do understand, it's NOT cheap. But, considering everything else out for sale on thr market right now, I mean the God dang thing is cheaper an an xbox!!! Come on people. It's not thay expensive!!! You pay more for a PS5! Etc. He is trying to give you a very good meal for a cheaper per serving price than it would cost at the Restaurant or ballpark. Great food takes some tools and time to make, no matter what you do. He's doing a very good job of keeping it cheaper, as he says, for the quality it produces.

I mean, what people living in a dorm even have a cutting board and a knife? And if for some reason you do, you have to awkwardly cut on your desk. You don’t have spices, and you don’t have room for much of a pantry or condiments. And based on how Josh does videos, you’ll be given recipes with ingredients you’ll use once or twice before you hit the expiration date. And do you want those things crowding your fridge or pantry space when you have so little in the first place? I support the idea out of pure absurdity and how much it will crush Josh’s soul to have a microwave and mini fridge as his only appliance options. But if we’re being realistic, just eat your food court and your ramen and be happy.

@@seanmatthewking Yeah um…we didn't have a food court either so there goes that. My school owned a "cafe" that didn't serve full meals and it was a train ride away. And to answer your questions, yes actually. You do awkwardly make your food at your desk. Maybe not the microwave as his only appliance but to use things that someone would have in a dorm. Hell, I even used an iron and tin foil to make a quesadilla before and it was probably one of the best cheap meals I've had. No, I didn't have a cutting board but I did have a knife and a plate to cut things with. As far as space, I had my bed lofted for the majority of my time living there so storage wasn't really an issue as far as things like spices and ingredients that don't expire fast. As for other things, I got everything in 1-3 serving sizes so nothing ever went bad. Again, about space, you can make it work. I dormed with 3 people and shared a bedroom. You can find ways to maximize space. You get really crafty with how you do things in college when you don't have any other options. Nothing stopped me from being able to make full meals with what little I had to work with. It's all about creativity. Edit: also, to your comment about ramen, yeah, no. I tried that along with a lot of other instant food my freshman year then ended up with high cholesterol and heart problems fairly fast. I didn't have a choice but to eat full and healthier meals. Again, when there's no option, you make it work. 2nd Edit: last thing, when I transferred schools to one that had a kitchen (still no food court) for the people in the dorm to use, it was two refrigerators for ~450 people to use so… yeah

Anything bought in massive bulk - if bulk enough - will always be cheaper than what you usually buy for a family serving. This series is inherently flawed... and impossible for the average home cook to replicate, I might add.

$30 meat grinder from harbor freight. Ive done a few batches of buy one get one free sale chuck, pork shoulder, and chicken. It paid for itself within one 15 lb batch compared to pre ground. Vacuum sealed and froze it, stocks me up for weeks to months at a time. Great value.

One day you should have a well known chef be a guest. Put him in the cupboard and open it and start talking about a recipe. After you're done, the POV changes from the chefs POV to you just talking to him while he's in the cupboard. I think that would be absolutely brilliant.

This one was more of a "but better" than cheaper. The idea with making the buns is good tho and indeed simple and can be cheap, same with the pickled stuff and onions. The dog itself, not so much. I'd honestly like you to create a series where you go in a store and buy cheap brands and make fancy dishes with those.

People bitching about needing equipment and ingredients to make the hotdogs - what could he possibly do to speed up and lessen the cost of making sausages from scratch? Same with the buns. If he didn't do it this way then the video would literally be about going to the store and buying hotdogs and hotdog buns which is pointless.
@Cyprimm

Then...don’t put “but cheaper” on his titles? His “but better” videos seem just fine, people do walk in there to be entertained and it’s alright if he uses wacky machines or ingredients if the goal is to improve on the original. But you’re gonna get peeps bothered if you do the same thing and slap the title of being “accessible” especially during times with covid.
@Alidwee1
@Alidwee1 2 жыл бұрын
@@Cyprimm Again, what exactly could he do make this more cost and time effective other than just buying hotdogs from the store? Other than making the hotdogs from scratch, nothing in this video was especially difficult or costly anyway tbh.

@@Alidwee1 Any serious home cook has a kitchen aid. I bought mine in my second year of college and used to bake all the time. You don't need a fancy pellet smoker like him, use a $20 weber kettle. The meat attachments are cheap but I'd spring for the all stainless one from another company. Thats really it as the meat grinder and mixer will pay for themselves if you make your own sausage, ground meat, bread etc yourself. The grill is something that can be used as often as you like for various things and you don't have to heat up your house. The main issue I have with making some things like relish is the shorter shelf life. The people complaining are not serious cooks and are too lazy or time inefficient to actually do meal prep en masse like this.
@jtp2007
@jtp2007 5 ай бұрын
@@jahcreatorPeople do not think this way nowadays. It has nothing to do with money, it is because they are lazy. It is cheaper and much better to cook from home. If you invest in doing that all the time, the amount you save on groceries will as you said, easily make up for the equipment you buy to achieve it. Sadly though, people do not want to take the time to do it, which is their problem, not Josh's
