No more L-1011’s, no more 727’s, no more DC-8’s, no more DC-10’s; MD-80’s, A300’s and 737-200’s are all but gone. No more TWA, America West, Continental, North West, US Air, AirTran, etc.. crazy, but at 49, 24 years ago seems like yesterday. Hard to believe all those planes and carriers are long gone.

The FedEx A300 N672FE shown in this video is still flying with them as we speak. Somehow one of the only aircraft in this video still flying along with the America West A319s which are still making money in the American livery and some of the Delta 757s. Even the Delta 777 is gone now.
@smakfu1375
@smakfu1375 Ай бұрын
@@azul_rex After reading your comment, I went and checked my assumptions: I’m shocked that over 1/3rd of the total A300’s produced are still in service (197 according to Wikipedia). I had no idea that FedEx and UPS alone account for 122 of those aircraft. I’ve always found the A300 to be an interesting plane, because (like the A320 family) it was very forward looking, out of necessity. I suppose, despite the ancient engines, the twin config probably makes them highly practical as a freighter for logistics companies. Hard to believe that the A300 entered service 50 years and 5 days ago. Also hard to believe almost none of its contemporaries (DC-10, L1011) are still in service.

I truly believe the best era of aviation was from 1970-late 2000s. Many airlines and iconic aircraft are gone. I’m so happy whenever new archive footage is released. I’m glad I got to experience some of this when I was young.
@Laxa30
@Laxa30 Ай бұрын
you mean deadliest era of aviation lol. These times are not missed
@Delta_NWAB747fan
@Delta_NWAB747fan Ай бұрын
@@Laxa30 Of course you have to nitpick at my statement, you’re the third person this week to complain about a perfectly normal happy comment of mine. The time before the 70s was incredibly deadly as well and we don’t have a lack of plane crashes and incidents today even though less. So stop being a Debbie Downer, I said what was great about that era and you just had to look at the negatives like every person on the internet. That’s when traveling became more affordable, flying longer and faster than ever before, the first wide body aircraft were introduced, Concorde was in service for most of that period providing supersonic transport, and many airlines and aircraft that got us where we are today are gone. So crashes discredit the accomplishments from that era? That logic makes perfect sense…

Yep I totally agree, for me it was the 70s and 80s. I remember being in LAX and sitting at a gate and watching a Delta L1011 pull right up to the window, it was so cool. I also remember when my family and I would drop people off at the Honolulu airport and we could walk to the gate with them and see them off right as they were getting read y to board, man were those some fun times. The best times in airline aviation for me for sure.

In 1983 I left for college and it was my first time leaving Hawaii. I was boarding a United 747 and I looked at that huge nose cone and was in awe that I was getting on one because as a kid that was always my favorite aircraft. Then it taxied to the reef runway and when I felt those thrusters kick in and that power, wow what a rush that was for me, it was just a total thrill.

Love seeing the 727s and 737s with the old JT8D engines. Brings back childhood memories. It’s also interesting to see them juxtaposed with the 777 which was relatively new at the time, but still doesn’t seem old today.
