It's technically not cheating, but definitely exploiting the rules in a sneaky and unsportsman-like way. Should definitely be illegal in mma competitions though, since kneeing a downed opponent is also illegal. I don't know why it doesn't come under "timidity".

If I'm not mistaken I saw Jones doing that same thing in UFC and almost got kicked in the face for it. He looked at Big John McCarthy like 'wtf' and McCarthy was like, 'Hey, you wanna play the game!' It was hilarious.

Not sure about the rules in whatever org that was but in the UFC the rule is cannot kick if a hand is on the ground. I don't think there's a knee down rule bc it's not illegal to knee someone shooting. You sometimes see UFC fighters put a hand on the ground abusing that rule and the guy in this clip also usually had a hand down. Bullshit pushed by politicians like 12-6 elbows to the dome illegal because "Oh the thought of it so brutal mommy." On one knee\hand denotes a position from which a fighter can defend oneself. Easy as falling on your back if it comes to it. Eastern MMA rules fairer and also more entertaining. There's still a middle ground possible for fighter safety such as not allowing kicking\stomping\kneeing a fighter flat on their back. But the one hand rule does nothing except invite people to ruin fights cheesing the rules and I'm happy the dude in the clip got jacked doing it.
