I see this issue with a lot of flat bottom Jonboats. They just are not as strong as the V nose models. It's simple engineering the entire hull coming to a point makes them extremely durable compared to the square nose. I have seen some improvements in some of the newer models, but it's definitely an issue they know about. This repair was a bit dramatic but after so many patch jobs I thought it was the best solution. I feel confident that this will no longer be an issue with this boat!

It's a recurring problem with square nose boats. Usually spawns from incorrect trailer set up. Lmk if i can help.

Damn Boy!!! The amount of time ya got in that --- and edited down to 20min ........ and still show the "product"; my hat's off to ya bud!!!! Great work!!!! That constant "pull" against or on the loop really shows where the stress is; it's the flex on the "gauge". You definitely made a difference by "spreading the load". The only additional "strength" builder to add would have been to go up into (through the hull) the cross-rib with a direct attach with the plate allowing the pull to be spreading the width of the boat, then again - that may be overkill! :) Love it my friend!!! Be Safe

I am a disabled Vet. Had my knee replaced and my hip x2, I got this boat to help me in my recovery. The 1652 is super stable and I have no worries as I move about the boat. I have completed a few trips and think I am now ready for an adventure. I will be doing a trip down the Sabine River below Toledo Bend Dam to the Gulf. Camping along the way. That front deck is big enough for a Cowboy bedroll, but there should be plenty of sand bars. Wish me luck. @@TRICKEDTINS

What do you think of the welbilt brand. I have a grizzly 1654 tunnel. And looking at getting a weldbilt 1860 tunnel. I think the gauge is thicker on the 56 and 60 welbilts
@TRICKEDTINS

Yeah i think so. The Weldbilt hulls are nice, but the interior options they install suck. Watch this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mt2RdtWXnNSZkZc.html

What's you thoughts on an 1860 Jon to start with for a conversion, I am thinking Lowe Roughneck 1860...I am a big dude at around 400lbs. Any other I should be looking out for, looking to buy a new hull in 2023. Keep up the great work, videos are great!
@TRICKEDTINS

Roughneck is a good boat. Tracker Grizzlys are similar in price and quality in my opinion.

Would this same approach work for a riveted flatbottom Alumacraft? I know the hull material is thinner. I have a 1648 riveted one and it has the eye riveted onto the flat front at the top. Not only is the location bad but it was about 2” off center from the factory brand new lol. Makes it a pain to winch up straight.
@TRICKEDTINS
@TRICKEDTINS Жыл бұрын
That sounds like a pain in the ass. Idk man. I hate riveted boats, but that's the only way I would know to repair it. Goodluck brotha.

What type of aluminum do you use for your boat fab work?
@TRICKEDTINS

Thickness varies depending on the application, but I use alloy grade 5052. It's bendable and tough enough to last a lifetime!

Getting this issue repaired on my jon boat this weekend. How would you recommend setting up the trailer to prevent this?
@TRICKEDTINS
@TRICKEDTINS 9 ай бұрын
Boat needs to sit flat on bunks. Also I added a cross board from port to starboard above the winch roller. Seams to help distribute the load.
@fishingistherapy
@fishingistherapy 9 ай бұрын
@TRICKEDTINS Nice. Thanks the valuable insight. Added a Yates etrailer flat bottom jon boat flat stop instead of the bow roller to correct this issue, as I had the same issue you went over and just got mine welded this past Sunday. Thanks.

Badass work, may I suggest replacing the carpet bunk boards with PVC bunks. I don't have to power load and slam my boat on the trailer.
@TRICKEDTINS
@TRICKEDTINS Жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea. You have to be careful with those. I've repaired a bunch of boats that have slid off the trailer at the ramp. I dont care what bunks you have. never take the front winch cable off until the trailer is partially in the water. Nobody wants to be that guy 😆
@Pitchpullin5
@Pitchpullin5 Жыл бұрын
@@TRICKEDTINS I agree, I was able to push my boat off with one finger. I can easily see how someone could forget and have their boat slide off. I do have to stay in the throttle while loading and walk up front to hook up the eye then walk back and place it in neutral. If not the boat will slide off the trailer. If I could do it over I would have went with the 2x6 boards vs the 2x4's.

I understand that flat nose is structurally weaker. Do you think that it’s also because all of the additional weight due to the built out jon boat? Or have you seen this issue on completely bare bones flat nose?
@TRICKEDTINS
@TRICKEDTINS Жыл бұрын
This boat is stock from Backwoods Landing. It happen before any modifications were made to the hull. In my opinion, they need more reinforcement and special trailers. Your boat will be stressed way more on the trailer, than on the water.

The customer wasn't ready to spend the money and fix it permanently. Besides, my previous welds were excellent. The boat has a bad design. If you weld that bad, you shouldn't be taking on projects like this...
