Pouring a concrete floor. This video shows how one man can pour a concrete floor addition. This is a 20' x 12' addition to a house with a frost wall foundation. I poured and finished the new concrete floor for the general contractor.
I hand finished this concrete floor because it was getting tile on top of it. The concrete only needed to be finished flat and fairly smooth. I used my mag float and steel hand trowel to finish the concrete. I also used a pair of sliders or skids to move around on the concrete.
If you want to learn more about pouring and finishing concrete, I have more in depth training videos in The Concrete Underground below.

I used to use a 2x4 magnesium strikeoff like yours for years. I switched to the Bon combo screed. My company doesn't run 2 guys on a strikeoff ever so getting a screed that is light helps alot. You should look into them, they're a game changer.

I have pieces of lead I machined to fit on the ribs on top of the bull float. For real low slump with large aggregate I use a vibrafloat, thats a bullfloat with built in vibration.

...you do really good by yourself for being 56, Mike! Totally agree; nothing worse than the pour being too low and having to muck it back to the screed, especially if its a hot day/hot load, and you have too many edges to tend to...great work!

I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination but I've poured about 30 yards between a driveway and patio at my own house with the help of some crusty retired union finishers. Our drivers down here in NJ are so much better at placing the concrete. They just know what to do. I guess having the chute in the front makes a big difference. Saves a lot of work when pouring.

Rakers that rake too deep when you’re on the rod and you just want to get it rodded off and the dude keeps pulling too deep! He’s too slow to fill it back so you end up standing up and kicking mud back in and yelling at the guy “ WTF MAN! strike it off in layers dude! You’re killing me smalls!” I do a similar trick, we have rocky ground and I’ll grab a couple of rocks and sit them on the bullfloat. Years ago we got a HOT load and my foreman’s 4-5 year old was on the job. He straddled the bull float handle looking towards me with his feet on the bull float! He’s a small kid anyways.... I sent him out across the slab for one pass where it was tough getting it sealed. The kid loved it!

Or crazy hot weather he will bring a guy. He does a 24x24 garage. 8 yd pour. Truck unload , jitterbugged , and floated. And install zip strip. In about 25 to 30 minutes by himself. He is 54 yr old animal. And does nice work
