Late beginner adult pianist (grade 3) attempts to play a grade 1 piece on the piano in 1 minute, 10 minutes and 1 hour.
It's always hectic for me over the summer. As such I've not learnt any new pieces. Instead, I read lots of music until I get the gist of it, and then move on to something else.
As I have nothing new to play, why not learn to play something on camera. I'll start easy and attempt a grade 1 piece.
🎵 The book I use for this recording can be found here:

The piece I had already played and used in the background can be found here:

Well done. It must be satisfying to see the progress you've made such that you're able to produce those results in a much quicker time span.

Yeah, it’s interesting in that respect. The last time I learnt a grade 1 piece it too many hours over several weeks.

Props to you for doing a piece you know nothing about. It's not the same when someone does this challenge with a piece they've heard a million times. I enjoy watching your videos even as an advanced player.

Yeah, it’s a nice way of demonstrating the progress. It sounded awful to begin with to the point where you can’t even hear the melody.

That really shows improvement. It would be great if one can do the same with grade 3-4 pieces while being around 5-6 grade. Maybe i should have do the same, and play more grade 1-2 over the summer.

That’s my overall goal really get good enough that I can play intermediate pieces in just a couple of hours. For me the summer is difficult to get proper practice in. My living room is in constant use, we have all sorts of trips away. It’s very distracting. So when I have a few moments I just go through my books and play something. Could be any grade. Obviously the easier grades sound better but I also did the same with grade 3 pieces to just get a feel for which ones I liked the sound of.

I'm very jealous of your reading ability. Sure I've improved over the 10 months ive been playing in terms of my playing. But sadly my reading is pretty stunted. Oh, how I regret learning with synthesia video tutorials for the first 9 months :/ Word of advice to anyone willing to listening- I know its tempting, but please just learn to read or you'll probably regret it.

Thanks. It’s definitely worthwhile learning and, more importantly, practicing. And practicing is the key. I do sight reading exercises daily and my progress is slow. I can barely get through as grade 3 sight reading exercise.

Well done - I enjoyed that. Made me nervous though as it would have been out of my comfort zone. Derek was obviously a highlight.

I had no idea how it would turn out which is why I started with grade 1. It was a nice way to ease into the idea. It was also nice to see that a grade 1 piece can be done in an hour now. Last time I played them they took weeks. I have the grade 2 book also, maybe one day. Derek is a very loud boy. He featured in my 1 year progress video as well.
