It is really good to see some definitive methods like this. It reminds me of when I was a bicycle racer. They said it would take two years to understand the pedalling technique. It did, but if I had a teacher like you, it would have taken weeks not years.

Funny thing about fingers. You need strong fingers with lots of stamina. But, how many of you are told by your piano teacher to, “relax your hands, your fingers need to be like spaghetti”.

Thank you so much for this really informative video. Comes at a time when I am sort of at cross roads in my piano learning journey, i.e. should I quit or stick to my guns! Main reason is my fingers still fail to co-ordinate or play independently. Long story short, now I am going to try your method for improvement. Thank you once more

I've been struggling with clarity since I started learning the piano. Thank you for addressing this issue, also it pays to play slowly and deliberately wthout hurrying through the piece. I find I am often impatient to play slowly and end up slurring the play by repeatedly playing fast.

I think I got lucky that I picked up Beethoven's tempest 3rd movement to study, as the first part exercises individual fingers very well. After starting learning this piece, I found the other pieces went much better.

I really enjoyed your video today and I ask one question in another comment earlier today about this correct spelling on Mr. Karl Czeny. Please get back to me at your earliest convenience on the correct spelling of his name so I can buy one of his books on fingering. I wish you continued success with all of your future music videos and endeavors and I also wish you continued success financially as well. Have a wonderful day and weekend.

Hello! Loved this video! I am an adult beginner and it is slow going! I’ve been studying for three years now and I’m not happy with my sound - my dynamics and simply finger control. I feel I make a lot more mistakes just in finger placement and when I play chords, particularly those that have a mix of black and white keys, I often don’t play them quite together! Ive been recently learning Ballade by Burgmüller and those right hand chords tire my forearms. And the left hand chords, forget it! Sound nasty! Ha ha! I clearly need exercises to strengthen my fingers! What do you suggest?
@DrYukingPianoChannel
@DrYukingPianoChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question! I know what you mean. The main difficulty of playing chords is that the notes are not tightly together, and that, is the finger control problem. Try to "massage" your chord on your arm, using whatever the fingering you use to play that chord. When the finger strength and finger control improve, that usually fix "many" problems, including chords! Good luck!❤️

Hi. What is the correct spelling of the composer you were talking about in this video today? I would like to buy one of his beginner books. Is this one of the books you were talking about today? Karl Czerny - The Art Of Finger Dexterity. Or do you spell his name another way like this : Karl Chretien. This is the spelling I got from your video. Please correct me on this at your earliest convenience.

Do you think this could be helpful for woodwind players? For example, I feel when playing trills and fast passages that the 4th finger is much weaker, the trills are never as fast as those which I play with 2nd and 3rd. Also, very fast passages are sometimes sloppy because the 4th finger is not under complete control.
@DrYukingPianoChannel
@DrYukingPianoChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I used to have a piano student who was majoring in flute. She said that after she did the massage and the scratching exercises on her arms regularly that she learned in our piano lessons, she actually played flute better too, because she could “control” the fingers better!

I don’t know what is wrong with my fingers or the way I practise. I have been having a problem of uncontrollable fingers that I couldn’t play notes clearly and smoothly.When I try to raise the speed , my fingers start skipping notes. Help!!!
@DrYukingPianoChannel

Usually the weak fingers (4,5), or cross overs & unders are the problem. Try to identify first where exactly the problems happen, then just practice right there, until the problems are solved. I hope this helps. Good luck!

No, I didn't know that a pianist has to have "strong" fingers. The movement of the fingers has to be fast (in some cases), but strength isn't needed.

Well, this is just silly. No one plays Liszt or Mussorgsky correctly with weak fingers. People with weak fingers have no dynamics and are unable to play with fire on those pieces that demand it.
@DrYukingPianoChannel
@DrYukingPianoChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. As a professional pianist, you definitely need finger strength. That's directly related to finger control, and leads to control dynamics, speed and clarity of sound.
