The fact that I could understand most of the beginner part makes me so excited. I’ve been so inconsistent with learning so I don’t even classify myself as a beginner but now I feel more motivated. Definitely coming back to this video after 3 months 🥰

Hihi, I have the same thing. At the moment I couldn't understand really much of the beginner part. But when I learned Korean some time a go I was also very inconsistent and couldn't clasify myself either as a beginner. I could understand most thing, but still couldn't use the right grammar points or said things wrong XD

@@azukacharity2697 You just have to practice diligently. I'll list a few of my own resources, but you should pick what works for you after testing your options out. Total beginner: Learn hangul first and avoid romanization when learning - KZfaq videos to learn to read hangul (the Korean alphabet) - I bought a book ("The Little Prince") in Korean and used that to slowly read. I wasn't good at all at the beginning, but now my reading level is a lot faster even if I don't have the vocabulary bank to understand a majority of the novel. This totally isn't necessary, but I really wanted to be able to read quickly. - Another option besides books to practice reading is using KZfaq! I used to love watching Running Man, so I would watch episodes and since Korean shows often put sentences and words on the screen, I would practice reading those. Beginner to Intermediate: - TTMIK - the books are my go-to, but I also use their youtube videos and podcasts - Go Billy - he has a whole playlist of beginner words and grammar tips. I've recently been working my way through that beginner playlist despite knowing a lot of the material by now. It's a good refresher even for intermediate learners, anyways. - How To Study Korean - this website is THICK with information and gives you vocabulary to study, as well. It's a very good resource that has quizzes and unit tests all for free. I use this and TTMIK's stuff most often for my own studies. - Movies/Dramas/Music - I mostly use these to just listen to the language as many shows don't use natural Korean. Variety shows are better to use for natural Korean, but they are also spoken at a faster rate. I'm somewhere between upper beginner and intermediate as I'm able to get the gist of the story in Intermediate level but there are a few terms I'm not familiar with. There's a lot I don't know, but considering I'm self-studying between functioning as a working adult, I'm doing okay. If you can find a study group, that's great; but it's also totally doable on your own. You just have to put forth time and effort. Don't be afraid of talking aloud to yourself or trying to form sentences. Mistakes are okay, too. I often try to talk to myself as practice and end up a grammar mess, but it's the effort that will eventually help my fluency. Good luck!! :)

I feel like the advanced was easier to understand than the intermediate; the filler words and some expressions sounded more natural at the advanced level so it felt more natural to listen to and easier to understand. Also, THANK YOUUU! These are really helpful because it is hard to practice listening without being in Korea or having Korean friends!

The funny thing is now understanding the advanced level is so much more easier than understanding the beginner level. Because in the beginner they speak in a very formal way, like very rigid, but the advanced sounds way more natural and makes it easier to understand TTMIK good job! Also, that man was indeed very cool

What are your resources if you don't mind sharing? I can understand the intermediate level but there are still terms I don't know within there. I use TTMIK, How To Study Korean, Go Billy, and Korean novels/games as learning tools, but I'd like advice from more advanced learners.
@oumi1224
@oumi1224 2 жыл бұрын
@@OfficialAwkbe you’re already using great ressources! Since you’re already intermediate I would advise you to learn grammar from « Korean grammar in use intermediate » also maybe look at the beginner one and see if there are some grammar points that you didn’t know Then I would advise you to study vocab from « 2000most common Korean words: beginner », then intermediate Those are excellent books because they give you words that are actually used However my biggest advise would be to listen as much as you can, so go on KZfaq, find Korean you tubers and try listening to them If it’s too hard, put on the Korean subtitles (never English!!!), even if you don’t understand everything it will be very helpful !

wow, Intermediate was much easier than I expected; I only missed the odd word here and there. I also think the advanced level was much easier than the everyday Korean I hear most days when I'm hanging out with my Korean friends. Also, I think my comprehension was scaffolded from having heard the same story at the relatively easy intermediate level. Anyway, this was a VERY cool experience.

I changed the order I listened to it and did advanced first, then intermediate and beginner (I wanted to see how much I could comprehend without knowing the context). I could understand the story and most of the words through the advanced version, then the intermediate completely. Thank you, this was really useful!

Reading all these comments of people understanding...it's hard not to feel demotivated. I thought I was at a beginner level but my vocabulary is nowhere near this 😔 I know I need to put a lot more effort into actively learning Korean, and I am proud of my progress, but woah...this video put into perspective just how FAR I have to go. I wasn't going to leave a comment but I thought someone else might find it comforting. I was a little overwhelmed by everyone saying how well they understood. You're not alone if you really struggled 😂💚

@@youknowbts5838 this is a such a sweet, encouraging reply. Thank you so much 😭 Yes, I use flashcards and they're very helpful for remembering! I think I'm just not necessarily always learning the right things. I don't have a lot of structure to my studying and think I need to get back to working with my TTMIK book. Wow...as a native English speaker, Korean grammar feels very different 😂 It's fun though! I love conjugating verbs haha. Thank you so much again! This is my first time learning a new language properly and I guess I just need to keep going! 화이팅 💜 (I'm Army too btw!)

@@youknowbts5838 it's easy. Just watch Korea drama and idol vlive for years. Then take 1/2 level of Korea lessson. Then no more subtitles needed anymore unless for certain drama with really deep usage of language

It was really weird for me. The beginner one was easy and intermediate too BUT I understood most of the story in the advanced part even though I was missing a lot of words…. ( maybe I wouldn’t have understood a lot if I didn’t know part 1 and 2 🤔) It was like puzzle coming together through the 3 parts. Anyone else had that experience?

It was a similar experience for me too! I saw someone else comment that the experience might be different if the video began with the advanced part.

This was so much fun!! :) What a cool idea... I think I understand 'Intermediate' level the best, but the few parts/words I couldn't understand in it, I understood in the 'Advanced' level version! XD It would be really cool if you could do longer videos like this, but with breaking down the individual grammar & vocabulary points for each level! (I can understand the sentences when I hear them, but struggle at putting them together myself 😭😩) Thanks to all of you for the AMAZING hard work you always put into your content!! Love you guys 🥰🥰 (ooh, and thanks for adding the Korean subtitles too! Very helpful :))

Even though some words were unknown to me I understood them while listening to the whole sentence and situation, so overall the last level wasn't that hard!! Thank you for making such videos, they are of great help and also motivate somehow~

Aside from a few words in the advanced version, I understood everything. I think that's pretty good considering I've never tried to sit down and study korean, anything that I know is from listening and matching words to subs. Now I think I'll try taking that placement test!

the fact that i understand the advance better than the beginner makes me really happy and excited. been trying to learn hangul since 2015 but been inconsistent since then so i tried to watch a lot of documentaries and variety shows without sub and watch it again but with a sub and make sure that i did really understand what was happening. and i think i kinda pick up a lot more better that way. but i can understand well i just cant seem to learn to construct a sentence

Ahhh i really love this content. I need more like this, and i can say im proud of me for understanding maybe 80-90% of the intermediate level. Learning Korean is not easy and not only once or twice that i thought of quitting. Thx TTMIK for helping people learning korean in a fun way. I need to learn harder. This achievement prove that my struggle is not in vain. From only being able to understand kamsahamnida, annyeonghaseyo, eodiyeyo.

I'm really surprised with myself, I stopped learning Korean years ago and only used it sometimes with college peers, but I understood the story from the advanced version!
