Cool project! I've been wanting to build me a brick forge for quite a while, really appreciate seeing how you laid out the arch, makes a ton of sense. Thanks for sharing this with us!

I've been looking for a video showing the construction of a brick or stone forge as I am considering making one in the blacksmithing add on to my shop. Thanks for posting

that's A very nice its a forge. the brick work has to have a few war scares. if you make it to perfect people will mistake it for a barbecue

I am wanting to build one of these. The location of my current coal forge is not ideal and I really need a hood or chimney.

Where can I get plans to refer to for something like this? I am wanting to build one inside my cinderblock garage with spare bricks that have been here since I bought the house. Only things i would have to source are firebricks and chimney flue. Thanks in advance for any advice or references you can provide.

No plans. Just drew something out and started laying bricks.

This is going to be a very nice forge indeed and I plan to build one like it in the future after I move. Do you have video on your dirt box and bellows build?
@burnettsforge3 жыл бұрын
I did not do videos when I was building those two items. You can see the progress on the bellows on my Pinterest page at this link pin.it/703CrmH. The wooden forge is a box filled with clay; 1/3 of a steel water tank; and the tuyere and ash-dump that was on the blower I used with my 55-gallon drum forge.

I'm 47, just got g/dad's anvil, thinking the same thing(ish): even though I'm a sparky I have to smash away on this anvil.

A Important life saving Question,???? I'm building a red three hole clay brick forge, using sand outside of it, will the Brick explode on me, if it's clay ?
@burnettsforge3 жыл бұрын
Paul, There are many reasons for “explosions” - a violent expansion or bursting. If there is no excess moisture trapped in the brick (or explosive fuel), they will not explode. They will deteriorate - more quickly near the heat, but will not explode into projectiles in the absence of fuel like trapped steam, etc.

About how many bricks did you use?
@laughingshadow31362 жыл бұрын
Is it all normal Red brick or is it heat resistant fire bricks? If no, then where exactly do you place the more heat resistant bricks, will normal Red brick crack and flake under extreme heat?
@burnettsforge2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I used “regular” red brick throughout all of the basic construction. Then I used fire brick in the firebox and chimney, up to the flue liners. Please watch video 2 and 3 for more details.

@@burnettsforge so the inside of the lower chimney and surrounding the firepot/fire pit have a second layer made of fire brick, the base/legs and table countertop have no fire brick. Am I understanding that correctly

Dude unless your time is worthless, your material cost you a few thousand percent more than what the actual dollar value was..... took you 2 years worth of effort to buy it all on the cheap... it would have taken 1 weekend worth of overtime to pay for all of it at 20$ per hour. I see this all the time on these kinds of DYI videos and people think they saved so much money by piecing things together over the course lf years and investing 100x more time than it should take to get the materials and never think about how much their time is worth. If people put some thought into it they would realize their cheap materials cost 100× more than brand new materials they can get immediately.

You don't understand hobbies. They're not driven by saving or making money. They're for the pleasure of the experience, however firebrick for forges cost a significant amount of money unused. These aren't regular house bricks they're made for higher temperatures.
