Hello Artists! I"m excited to bring you painting #3 in my Winter Road painting series. In this series I will be using only 1 set of pastels to create each painting.
❄️ Why focus on one set of pastels? Because great art doesn't always come from an extensive palette. By using a limited palette we can learn to embrace limitations, explore color harmony, and create stunning effects with a condensed set of pastels.
🌨 In this third lesson, I'll be showcasing the Richard McKinley set of Terry Ludwig pastels. The surface of choice for this artistic journey is once again the practical Canson MiTientes unsanded paper. Affordable and beginner-friendly, this paper is perfect for those starting out with soft pastels.
So, gather your pastels, and let the creative journey begin. Your winter wonderland masterpiece awaits!

I love Terry Ludwig pastels. It is amazing how many layers you are getting on unsanded paper. A great reminder to use a light touch. Thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us.

Hullo Susan, I admire your bravery in working on Mi-teintes paper! I know they make the “Touch” line of paper that I have found to be usable unlike the paper your working on now! I have tried several times working on this paper and I am just to heavy handed and done at maybe 3 layers? I have most of the original pad That I purchased 3 years ago! I am working on thumbnails now after taking Alain Picard’s Landscape Painting classes and the paper is ok for this as I am only using 1 color and just blocking in larger areas. The paper colors act as my middle tones and I am still learning. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge with us. Beautiful paintings from this series, truly amazing!

They all are wonderful. But, window #2 wins first place in my world… The color wheel to me has always worked clockwise; the lights are an orange to yellow; the shadows started with blue, working its way clockwise to a warm purple.. The reasons for window #2 is this; As I work, (oils) towards yellow, cutting, or mixing, I learned to drop below, counter clockwise to grab a smidgen of the color below it, to give it the rich-ness I love. On the cool side of the wheel, as I muted my colors, I would again grab a smidgen of the color above it, (counter clockwise) to in-rich as I work towards the warmer side of the wheel. I love them all, including Monet Cafe :)
