A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his KZfaq channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

Sean, my guitar instructor and I hit jazz since that's what I wanted to do - because I love jazz so much - and this was exactly what he's been trying to get into my head - but you did it with a really much simpler approach. Thank you so much for this. Now when doing the chord heavy jazz arrangements my brain is now saying 'ah ha'.

great video sean I've been playing for 25 years but learned by ear no theory very fun but very limiting I've been trying learning theory lately very frustrating , not only is your video helping me with shapes, but just explaining relative minors as it relates to major chords, and the notes in common , and what makes them different helps me a lot, because of my life schedule, your method of teaching doesn't require me to spend the time i had when i was 20years old to help me thank you

Thanks Sean, this lesson is gold! I've been getting mild pain in my fretting hand (all of a sudden after 23 years of playing), so have been looking for new ways to play chords (ways that enable my fretting hand and wrist to remain in a straight line instead of forming something close to a 90 degree angle/ "L" shape). These 1 finger major and minor chords fit the bill! Also love using the 1 finger inverted 5ths in my playing. Thanks for another great lesson again!

What's funny about this is this is all information I already have full access to and already know. But honestly it just never occurred to me to voice chords in this way. Immensely useful to jam with and an alternative way to visualise the fretboard for composition. Nice work Sean.

when i practice my guitar playing (by ear/self taught), i find these shapes and fingerboard positions by ear, and as i progress,... i have been discovering by accident that they connect some how!...i can hear it but i don't know (theoretically) what i'm doin/playing!?🤔🤔......watching you is really helpful!! and listening to your theoretical explanations of what it is these shapes are chord wise and scale wise, and that their relationship to each other is HUGE!!!🙏🙏🙏

You can go a lot further in your understanding and ability by breaking down chords into intervals and learning to play those intervals everywhere. You’ll be able to create chords anywhere. You’ll also see that you can create chords that are physically unplayable, but you can omit certain notes to make that new chord work (like omitting the 5th and maybe even the root if you’re playing with others). Diminished 7th chords as parents to dominants and their home keys will really wake you up (Pat Martino’s Parental Forms ideas).

these videos are very helpful! I made myself memorize the notes that make up natural triads which was only A-G which then made it easy to figure out all the others by flatting the 3rd to make them minor or adding a half step to those notes to get the notes of the non natural chords.

That was super enjoyable. I think they are called the twozies or something like that, I don't remember. Really great for learning where you can safely switch positions too when soloing. Especially when you consider that pinky note that when moving up 5 frets (to the 12 in your example) is also the 8th fret above on the B string (that D note at 15 on the B string), it's a big hint into the scale at that position because you have the top 2 strings identical and 3 frets apart.
@chrisray1567
@chrisray1567 2 жыл бұрын
Great lesson. I never noticed how the minor and major triads sit on top of each other like that. The bonus tip about using your pinky to play the tonic of the major chords is basically the bottom half of the G shape chord. That means you can also play the major and minor 7th notes too, using your ring or middle finger. It’s a surprising easy, yet uncommon, way to play 7th chords.
