I just found your channel and I am thrilled. I moved to Colorado from NH three years ago and I have been researching the plants in my area. I am in the forest all the time, so to be able to identify these plants I haven’t seen before is going to be such fun. I don’t trust myself to actually be foraging at this point. My husband and I plan on taking a course on foraging this spring in our area.

Welcome, glad you found us! It is always important to be well informed before you forage for any food, glad to hear you’re doing that. The overly careful forager is the one who continues to enjoy life. Would love to hear more about your classes and foraging journey….

I generally take 3 field guide books when hunting an unfamiliar edible. If I feel like they don't all verify it, I don't eat it.

Thanks for this wonderful info. Is there any way you could let us know the range of this plant? I live in the Northern Prairie and wonder if it’s here too.

Awesome! Only thing I could ask is that you share the Latin name so we can read more about the plant

Good point. There is definitely overlap in colloquial names.

That is true. I have included Latin names in many of the videos.

I included prairie turnip in the last stir fry I posted about, maybe this could give you some ideas. Foraging for a Wild Edible Stir-Fry kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qsl_nKl5yZqcaaM.html According to the Corpse of Discovery and other nineteen century explorers it tasted insipid, which means bland or tasteless. I think that is an incorrect description of the taste. When it is raw, it has a starchy texture with a slight hint of pea flavored sweetness. Roasted over coals or sautéed creates a novel french fry type experience.

@@rockymountainedibles3593 were I live they don’t grow there is ground nuts which are another relative of them but I think that there cold hardy enough for my climate if you do sell them you should differently start selling them there impossible to find you probably would sell out fast. Probably could be progated through seeds or roots maybe cuttings.
