Car Journalists would have a stroke over this. “It’s due for a refresh, it’s so outdated, I can’t live my life without Android Auto or Apple Car Play, the gas mileage is horrible, it has 5 horsepower less than (fill in the blank) competitor, it doesn’t have a push start button”. I love when cars were simple and not over complicated. You don’t buy an SUV or truck for gas mileage, if you do, you’re buying it for the wrong reason. Thank you for making a review like this. It goes to show that even though it might not have the brand new touch screen, or whatever new technology, it still gets the job done.
@jager891

@biblereader I’ve thought about that too actually. It would be nice if it was a simple Cummins or Duramax for the Corolla Sedan and Hatchback. Unfortunately, the emissions standards completely mess up diesel vehicles. It is what it is, great idea though!

Amazing car, and love that you represented a true ownership/buying experience again for an older vehicle. I was considering a 4runner myself after hopping out of a NA Miata to get out there and hit some trails, but it’s overpriced rust buckets galore out in the Northeast and it’s hard keeping a car in NYC. Really wish I were in a place to pick up your 4runner. Truly is worth the money finding a vehicle that’s been cared for and tastefully modified/fixed like yours has been (speaking from a nightmare experience in sorting out previous owner “fixes”). I hope these cars keep chugging along until I can get into a place to experience them.

Have a 2003 4Runner V8 Limited 4wd. It has never spent a night in a garage. Paint’s a little tatty but it drives exactly like a new car. Everything works; perfectly comfortable with leather seats and such; terrific stock sound system; handles the worst snowstorms with ease; tightest turning radius of any car I ever owned; plush comfort on long road trips; massive torque right from idle. _Unbelievably_ high-quality vehicle. Should easily last another couple of decades.

I think you should buy the '22 GX Premium. The GX is probably the last of its kind when it comes to naturally aspirated V8 vehicles with late 90's to early 2000's mechanical engineering. Toyota has already killed off the V8 Land Cruiser, and within the last few days we've learned that the N/A V8 Sequoia is headed to the graveyard too, replaced by a 2x turbo V6. The GX remains one of, if not the most reliable vehicles you can buy. When you buy one new, you're set for at least ten to 15 years of struggle free ownership. Even if you find yourself in the unlikely position where something breaks, parts for this car are so easy to find because this car has been basically the same for like 20 years. You also wouldn't have to put too much into it after you buy it because it basically comes from the factory ready to hit the trails. In addition, that Mark Levinson sound system is one of the best car audio systems out there, specifically in the GX. if you decide to sell this car in the future, you aren't losing much value; in fact, you may even gain value because the demand for off-road vehicles has exploded and is here to stay. For $60k, the GX is the safest, and in my eyes, the smartest choice. This is a car you could literally take to the grave with you.

Been fun watching this car on the channel! Personally, of the possible next vehicles you listed out, I’m rooting for an RC F or a 1LE Camaro. There are already plentyyyyyy of people doing stuff with Broncos and Model 3’s imo. Can’t think of anyone off the top of my head who’s done much content on an RC F, and Chevy could certainly use some sales help with the Camaro lol. And both are NA V8 - last of their kind! Whatever you ultimately decide tho, can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Chris, Thanks for the update. I really hope viewers will take your advice about Krown Rustproofing to heart. Even in the Salt Belt, rust is NOT inevitable when proper preventative maintenance is done to protect the body. Beyond the body panels and frame, any quality rustproofing product will also protect brake and fuel lines. My Ontario car is a year older than your 4Runner and it remains rust free because it has been protected from corrosion since day 1. To put it bluntly Rust = Neglect. Buying a 15 year old vehicle with over 200,000 miles will always involve some upkeep expenses and it was good of you to include that in this review. If you don't keep the 4Runner, make sure it goes to a good home ;-)

Good-looking truck. About 10 years ago, I had Firestone Destinations on a Jeep Cherokee XJ. I think I had the all-season's, but whatever they were, they were excellent in the snow. Recently, I have read great things about the Toyo Open Country AT III's and, as superficial as it may be, I love the tread pattern. So far (about 3,000 miles on them), I am in love with them. Has not snowed more than a couple of inches yet, so I have yet to experience their snow performance.

For an average midsize sedan you can expect only $140 or so for a treatment, far better than any further expenses that may be caused by the iron worm. Only major issue is finding a location, especially outside Michigan. Only one in Wisconsin is in freaking Wausau.

I think you should get a 2008-2014 Volvo XC60 T6 R design.. or a VW Touareg TDI But a Tesla would be super cool... I was driving a model 3 dual motor today and they've grown on me.

If you're thinking of getting a new SUV that's a new experience that isn't too expensive and has a manual transmission, I guess there's a new company coming to the US called Bremach that's beginning to sell rebadged UAZ's from Russia. An SUV and a very similar pickup truck too. I know it's not glamorous, especially with like 150 hp from a 4 cylinder engine but the fuel economy must be somewhat better than this. Additionally it's body on frame, 4WD with heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel. And I imagine since it's built by Russians, it was built predominantly for Russian's too which means it will be designed to last too since most Russian's don't have the money to buy new cars every few years. Not sure if you'd heard of them yet. I'm thinking of looking at one as soon as one appears in the Massachusetts area for test driving.

150HP is bad. I am already sick and tired of my second vehicle 03 Honda CRV 4WD which has 160HP. That thing is too damn slow specially when trying to merge on the freeway. I am trying to get an 07 or newer 4Runner Limited V6 4WD nowadays, but the prices are insanely high. Even they are insanely expensive to get in auctions too. I am just gonna wait a bit for the prices to go down.

IMO you should wait for the sequoia to come out and maybe get one of those until the new 4runner comes out, but I'd keep this 4runner until the new one comes out. The new gx is practically the same!

I love that bumper, exactly what I’m looking for, where did you get that? Also how do the 255s do on the highway, on dry roads, with acceleration vs stock? Same MPG?

I wished I had one of those or a chance to get that one. I had a 2014 Tacoma. I lost it in an automobile accident last yr. Due to that accident I've not been able to work or go back to work since then. And I've been driving an 03 Nissan Altima that insurers to get rid of ALLLLLLLL bugs within ½ a mile from me. Lol .. Doesn't really smoke that bad. Just enough to kill the bugs and or run them off. LOL....

Hi, got a little question about your recording equipment. I guess you filmed this with a GoPro? Which microphone did you use? Love the audio quality. Greetings

>automatic transmission drain & fill (x3) Nice, someone who actually cares about their transmission enough to try and flush out all of the old fluid without trying to risk things by using the fluid exchange machine. I still prefer the GX460 mostly because it's a Lexus, and it's a Landcruiser Prado underneath.

Beat sonic has a kit for the 14+ gx460 to add CarPlay. It looks a lot better quality than the grom unit that I’ve seen. I didn’t see anything for the 10-13 (unfortunate cause they look better)
