My car buying philosophy over the last 30 years has been to buy a Toyota with around 100K miles. Often people start getting nervous about seeing those 6 digits on the odometer and feel they need to sell before it starts "breaking down". I have never been disappointed in my purchase!

My 2006 Toyota 4x4 double cab Ute has a 3L diesel. I bought it with 320k at a great price. It just clicked over 525k. Changed timing belt twice with 2 water pumps steering and suspension bushes with tyres needing changing at 460k for on road compliance. Servicing is done every 6 months. Last month it only needed new drivers seat belt for compliance. My wife has a 2007, 2L Corolla bought with 120k on the clock. No timing belt replacement required same 6 month servicing as my Truck and with 285k now on the clock only required light bulbs for compliance....Toyota is a great reliable brand we will always look at first when purchasing a car.😊

The rubber bushings in my control arms on my rust free 2002 Tundra rotted and cracked due to heat at about 185,000 miles. I found one 2004 sequoia sr5 that has 400k miles. He’s selling it for $3000 and it does look pretty decent all around. Still debating if I should bite the bullet?

@@indepmg It could be a good deal; everyone says it’s a Best Buy used car if you can afford the gas. Of course used cars have overall Maintenence issues so have a Mech examine it, get under it, test drive it. Find out what has been replaced because at that length probably everything like ball joints has at least once. My understanding is the timing belt needs replacement every 65k, which I should probably have done since I’ve run it over 65k in the time I’ve had it. I wouldn’t be so concerned about the engine if everything else seems good, because the chance a 400k rated engine lasting another 100k is probably higher than a 150k engine lasting another 50k if you know what I mean. but you have to factor in an engine replacement sometime, so it wouldn’t hurt to price that out in advance. It’s a job a backyard mech can do with a salvaged engine. It is true the Toyota 4.7liter engine is just getting broken in when other engines are having their final days.

Notice the antenna is up when the car is off. The original stereo would lower the antenna. That's because new stereos don't have a separate power line for the antenna. You have to wire it to the main stereo power and then it doesn't go up and down like the original. The fix is to wire a rocker switch just for the antenna power. Then I turn it off before turning the car off. The antenna will go down when you turn off the car. It will go up whenever you turn the rocker switch on.

My 06 4WD Sequoia w/ 190k miles gets 12 mpg in the city 😢. 20 mpg on the freeway from SF Bay Area to Chico @ 65 on cruise control( relatively flat up hwy 5) and 17 mpg round trip from sf Bay Area to Lake Tahoe @65(over 6000 ft elevation gain on i80) The Gas mileage is awful but it’s an excellent camping/snowboarding/adventure vehicle and it has been extremely reliable. I’m Thinking of buying a 2007 Toyota matrix like Scotty’s for my city driving and keeping my Sequoia for my adventures. Plan to keep the sequoia forever. I am definitely a Toyota fan boy 😂

I drive a 2009 Highlander with 160k miles, bought it used back in April, and there have been no problems with the car at all, the only problem I had was to fill the tires but thats it, no major issues yet, very bulletproof suv forsure. I've put about 4000 miles on it, and it's still moving and running like a champ. I did tons of research and always knew that second hand Toyotas are great. If you want a strong durable Toyota, always get the V6 and V8 options. The V6, and V8 Toyotas can last forever and are powerful and strong.

Ordinarily, you are right. But in today's McDonald's culture, people never take the time to properly take care of their vehicles and do proper maintenance, nobody even knows proper break-ins actually exist, and if they do maintenance, they put crap oil in it and have junky maintenance from those 5 minute oil change places. unless you know the exact history, older cars will most likely need major repairs like Transmissions, piston wear, corroded coolant lines, etc

Bought a 2001 4x4 model with 170k for $6k a couple months back. It’s been such a good family car. We’ve taken it already to multiple camping and road trips and tacked on 5k miles. It has ice cold AC, tons of cup holders for the kids. Super spacious with tons of trunk space if you remove the third row. The first gen Sequoia is underrated. Get one now before they blow up in price.
