After exactly 1 year and 1 week after getting my 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum, I share my thoughts and experience on it. Hope you find it useful!
I'm always comparing my current SUV from my last (2018 MDX Premium). Here is a list of comparisons:
2023 Highlander Hybrid Platinum vs 2018 MDX Premium
1. Longer and narrower (more aero dynamic) so handling and turning the corners are much easier and smoother
2. Hybrid range is 750km on full tank (65L) vs 375km
3. 12" touch screen (much better for navigation) vs 7" non touch screen
4. Wireless phone charger and 120V plug vs none
5. Panoramic sunroof vs regular moon roof
6. V4 243 combined hp vs V6 290hp
7. Gaming apps for touch screen vs DVD player for back row passengers
8. 7 seater vs 8 seater
9. Quieter, less fumes and less vibration for Hybrid
10. Auto insurance more expensive by 15% for Hybrid
11. 2nd and 3rd row seating has more leg room for Hybrid (because seats are adjustable)
12. Rubber trunk liner is custom done for better protection in Hybrid
13. Trunk space for Hybrid is narrower
14. Both cosmetically looks great
15. Sound system in both are great
16. No hands kick sensor for lift gate Hybrid only
17. Donut spare wheel vs full size spare tire for MDX
18. Heated side mirrors for both
19. Stick shift gear (we like this better) vs push button for MDX
20. $72,000 vs $68,000 - prices are in CAD tax included
21. 750km on full tanks vs 350km for MDX
Hope this info helps you with your decision making on your next SUV purchase!

I don't mind it since the last couple SUVs I had were the MDX and Pathfinder. Just the small battery alone isn't enough power to go uphill or pass someone on the highway. The thing I like is not having to change the oil until after 16,000km. It's amazing. Saving money with gas and at least $80 each oil change. I checked the oild before I took it in for its first oil change. The engine oil was almost full and still clear.

@@familyguyathome so true! I’ve had mine for 6 months & im still trying to get used to the loud engine. I went from a Mazda3 Sport to a Jeep Grand Cherokee (6cyl) to a Highlander so it’s been a huge difference power wise. I can’t believe though that my Highlander has given me 72mpg in the city! That blew my mind! I hope I learn to appreciate it more for all of the other benefits it has hahaha. Thanks for your reply & review as well 😊
