My wife and I really love our new 2023 Highlander Hybrid Platinum, it was worth the wait. With gas prices still high and EV range/ infrastructure still not giving us the confidence to switch over yet. Hybrid is the best option for us easily giving us double the range of our previous SUVs.
I'm always comparing my current SUV from my last (2018 MDX Premium). Here is a list of comparisons:
2023 Highlander Hybrid Platinum vs 2018 MDX Premium
1. Longer and narrower (more aero dynamic) so handling and turning the corners are much easier and smoother
2. Hybrid range is 750km on full tank (65L) vs 375km
3. 12" touch screen (much better for navigation) vs 7" non touch screen
4. Wireless phone charger and 120V plug vs none
5. Panoramic sunroof vs regular moon roof
6. V4 243 combined hp vs V6 290hp
7. Gaming apps for touch screen vs DVD player for back row passengers
8. 7 seater vs 8 seater
9. Quieter, less fumes and less vibration for Hybrid
10. Auto insurance more expensive by 15% for Hybrid
11. 2nd and 3rd row seating has more leg room for Hybrid (because seats are adjustable)
12. Rubber trunk liner is custom done for better protection in Hybrid
13. Trunk space is similar
14. Both cosmetically looks great
15. Sound system in both are great
16. No hands kick sensor for lift gate Hybrid only
17. Donut spare wheel vs full size spare tire for MDX

My 2023 Hylander Hybrid Platinum came in 3 weeks ago. Silver with Caramel Glazed interior. It's absolutely beautiful

I'm jealous, congratulations! Cause I had ordered caramelized interior with black exterior, but they stopped making custom orders. Was told that I should take whatever is being delivered or I could wait another year.

I was told by 6 dealerships the had list going with more than 50 people on the list. I was lucky enough to find one in the north hills Pennsylvania. I bought it immediately as so glad I did but I didn't want white. Its a pearl white and sometimes looks like a light grey. The new Camrys have a grey that almost looks white. My car does the same in the sun. Its sharp in the sun. We love the way it changes colors.

I own the platinum trim 2023 and love it....... The only thing that I don't like is: that when you start the SUV with remote start the engine goes off when you open the door 😔 having the key with you, others manufacturers like Honda, Hyundai, Kia you just have toopen the door, step on brake and press engine star button and never turns off unless you don't have the key with you.... I hope toyota can make changes in the future about this

Ya, it's kinda odd that engine turns off when we open the door. And then have to turn back engine on manually like usual (press brakes and push start button).

It's just for privacy reasons. So your vehicle does not get stolen. Let's just take into account, in the past, someone could easily hijack your kia/hyundai. Those two brands were well known for vehicle theft. Now honda and the rest have perfected this but toyota is not taking the risk.

Just ordered a Highlander platinum. AWD hybrid. Almost impossible to get so I'll be waiting 24 months which means it will be the 2025 model year.

Long list at most dealership but they are out there. I was lucky enough to pick my up last Monday. You will be so happy when you get it. I wake up wanting to go for a ride lol

I just got my 2024 highlander doe nightshade. It's pearl white but looks like Toyota's new grey color. I love everything about it and it has everything you need so don't waste your money on the platinum edition. I was lucky enough to find one in stock after finding out 6 other dealerships have list going. I'm getting 41mpg!

This is wicked man. Actually my dream vehicle haha. Love the highlander! Been very happy with our RAV4 Hybrid, just want something a little bigger and this seems to fit.

Hold button is when you stop by on signal and your hold button is on then you don't need to hold the brake and when signal open just press accelerator. I do have same car. You made nice video

Well you certainly made a good choice with this highlander instead of an EV 👍 I heard with the side mirrors if you put it into reverse they tilt down so you can see the curbs (its a hidden option which can be turned on if you want I believe) 🎉

Great review and greetings from Europe. I just placed an order for the HiHy. Only questions I have is how did you manage to connect the wireless android auto. While testdriving one I couldnt activate AA. The sales rep was clueless too. He tried his Iphone, carplay activated instantly. Thanks!

@@familyguyathome thanks for the reply! AA is already integrated in my Samsung. Used it in my previous vehicle. TBH i didnt have the time to create a user, I was just logged in as a guest and added my phone to the BT list of devices. The sales rep activated apple carplay on the guest account. 🫤 No luck on forums for more info either.

Turn on Bluetooth and make your android auto is connected . You will see a double arrow at the top of the left side of screen. Press it.

Nice review though not sure I buy what you (or your insurance guy) was saying about the EV insurance. I guess you either love EVs or hate them and that shows up in reviews. I have a 22 Tesla Model Y and the car and charging network are amazing. Never have a problem finding an open charger. Drove from Raleigh to DC this year and had no problem charging. Plus I charge at home in my garage and drive by the gas stations. My wife is looking at this Highlander hybrid though as she wants a big family car. Thanks for your opinion and glad you are enjoying your new car.

My wife and I rented a 2022 Model Y during the past summer while on vacation in LA with the kids. Was one of the worst experiences. Had to charge every 2 days (about 110 mile). Was very frustrating one night at 10pm where we had 15% left and it took 5 different locations to find a working or open charging station. Every location Tesla GPS took us to, was either closed or no access because it was in a private parking lot.

@@familyguyathome doesn't sound right to me. None of that has happened to me in 2 years with my Tesla Model Y. Also there are tons of chargers in LA (Los Angeles), unless you mean Louisiana perhaps. Perhaps technology is not for you. Again, there are Tesla haters and lovers.

@@familyguyathome Had it in they said they were working. Rained yesterday and NO. when I move the lever down it wipes once and then goes to rest.

@@familyguyathome Been looking online and some claim it’s the relay Even the intermittent on the rear seems like 10 seconds in between wipes
