Fantastic project. A little correction about Popeye. The squint eyed sailor didn't debut until January 19, 1929. That was in the daily strip. He didn't show up in the Sunday Thimble Theatre until March 1930. Segar ran a TWO YEAR continuity with Castor Oyl and Ham Gravy seeking their fame and fortune (which they did a lot) from March 1928 to March 1930. The fans have titled it "The Great American Desert Saga." The Fantagraphic Popeye reprints start with the March 1930 Sunday when Ham and Castor return home to find Popeye with Olive.

I can't wait to see the e-books for them! One problem I seriously have with the Popeye reprint collections is that the comics are printed so tiny, that you practically need a magnifying glass to read them, much less appreciate Segar's cartoon art!

It's so Awesome ! To get to know the real Popeye creator( E.C Segar ) these were called thimble theater that time ?? As I thought Thimble theater is one in which There is a puppet show in a puppet are moved manually either through strings attached to them... Or electrically...!!
