@MsEngelbyАй бұрын
@@destroyerofnations1828 Although Heath did a great job on Brokeback mountain. It was his perfomance as the joker that really broke the "oh he's just a pretty face" actor. Before the joker he was just any pretty boy average actor, and a lot of other actors could probably have done just as great as him in Brokeback. Brokeback was the role that led the industry to think he might be worth taking a chance on for something a tiny bit serious than his previous teen romcom roles, but only just that. His unique and stunning take on the joker's persona cemented the much deserved respect as a top actor in any role. Few actors will achieve what he did with that role, and even fewer socalled pretty boys will be on that list.

@remo2708Ай бұрын
I would say Ryan Reynolds in Amityville Horror was his first game changer, Liked Click for Sandler, did you forget Dunst in Interview With A Vampire? Bradley Cooper had Limitless earlier, or even Midnight Meat Train that showed he isn’t just the hunky comedy guy, and Efron really changed it up with his go as Ted Bundy before the Ironclaw, but I guess for a wider audience, the movies chosen may be the first times people saw the different actors in different styles.

Carey and Dunst both turned in brilliant performances in Eternal Sunshine. Personally I believe Carey is actually a better dramatic performer than a comedy one which he basically turns in the same performance for each time.

Most critics only view three genres of film as worth while drama, historical epics, and gangster films, if a actor know only for comedy, action or sci-fi films is willing to do one of these there going to get a nod from the critics.

As far as Jim Carrey is concerned, he should’ve gotten a mention on this list for The Number 23. That movie was so wildly outside the norm for Carrey that I literally never saw him the same way again. And I keep wanting to see him, and other largely comedic actors, in darker more dramatic roles… Seriously: Imagine if Carrey had been given the freedom to play Edward Nigma more like tortured Walter Sparrow; That would’ve been the defining Riddler performance - before Paul Dano.

I'm disappointed that Jamie Foxx is not on this list. Before the two-punch knockout of "Collateral" and "Ray," Foxx's biggest movie was "Booty Call." After "Ray," no one doubted Foxx again.
