All of these dishes are amazing. & that’s honestly an understatement. My fiancé is a Bahamian chef & he introduced me into a completely different cuisine. He was born in Nassau but his mother is from Eleuthera & his father is from Andros, so you know they get down in the kitchen. Im African, my family is from Liberia & he started infusing palm oil in his favorite cultural dishes. I love it! Y’all the GOAT 🫶🏾🔥

Hi Sonia! Thanks so much for watching, honey. YES, you are so right...our food is so incredible. You should be lucky you married a chef. I always wanted to marry a chef because I am greedy and like for other people to do the hard work in the kitchen. LOLOL.

Seafood in the Bahamas is amazing. It's like no other I've ever had. Incredibly fresh. I love cracked conch, and prefer it over conch fritters. I really miss conch salad. My brother and his wife are going to be in Nassau in a few days. I wish I could go with them!

I always struggle to describe to my non-Bahamian friends my favorite foods or help them get past certain foods like sheep tongue without mashing up they face lol. Im saving this video and sending it to them from now on. You explained each so well and made them sound extra tasty and so funny. When you said "tuna and grits with pear" I jump up like my fav junkanoo group win lmao. Dat and my peas soup?! I love all them but they're my 2 favs. Listen, I had stew h*sh h*sh the other day. You know what was slammin? THAT, muddoes.

@ThisBahamianGyal 2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow. I'm so happy for you. I hope you have a great time. Thank you for watching my video. As for the guava duff, the authentic guava duff is seasonal because it is typically made when the guavas are ripe. Some places will sell the version made with the canned guavas. Trust me it's not the same. BUT if that's all they have, you can try it. Just know that it won't have the same flavor profile as the authentic recipe. July and August are good times to get it. The high-end restaurants may have the real thing. So, just check. I'm so happy for you!

Hi Rogan! You do such a great job! You make me want to head straight to the Bahamas! (Please don’t cry: I am vegan, AND can’t handle spice. I KNOW! Sorry! I would seriously cheat the vegan part to try some buttery guava duff though!) I love all of your descriptions and it’s fun how your accent naturally changes as you get sentimental. I love the sheer enjoyment you convey as you describe foods you love. There is nothing like comfort food you have grown up with! 💕 (I am realizing lately just HOW MUCH I am giving up by going vegan…especially for holidays.) You give such great tips for travelers in your videos! I definitely want to visit as many Bahamian islands as I can. I love the sunshine, clear water, wildlife (🐬🐬🐬) and ESPECIALLY the wonderful PEOPLE. By nature, I never met a stranger either. I was made for “island time” too! I have ALWAYS struggled with punctuality… partially because I stop and talk to people along the way! 😆 Keep sharing your lovely, vibrant personality with the world! I hope your channel does well! God bless you with everything good.

If you were trying to make me hungry, Rogan, you've been successful. 🤤 Love fresh seafood, partially why I moved to Victoria BC, Canada in 1988. Spent many years in the restaurant industry, mostly kitchen. Food, for me anyway, is one of the cornerstones of life. Especially when shared with others. Doesn't get much better than good food, people, conversations and laughter.

@@ThisBahamianGyal I tend to be late to the party at times. 😆 That's so cool! I hope he enjoyed it here. 😀 The seafood is amazing, but seasonal to some extents. Just makes meal planning more interesting. Wild salmon is pretty much available year round, especially if you have friends that are 1st nations. One of my neighbours were fosters for a 1st nations disabled child. She received her portion of the salmon every time her band would fish it. Over 1 summer they ended up with about 15 30lb chinook salmon. They gave me 2 of them and it lasted for months once I'd cleaned, portioned and vacuum packed them for freezing. There's a river just outside Victoria where salmon come back to spawn every fall to early winter. Not a great smell after a few weeks, since they die after laying and fertilizing their eggs in the riverbed, but it really is an amazing thing to see.

Peas and rice didn't make the list? Rogan, are you able to get dried pigeon peas here in the States? I've only been able to get the ones in the can.

I love peas n' rice. But, I wanted to expose people to crab n' rice 🦀 Not a lot of people know about that. Yes, I found the dried pigeon peas in a farmer's market in Virginia. 😁😁

What can I put on a Bahamian charcuterie board? I’m hosting my cousins wedding shower and her fiancé is Bahamian so I wanted him to have a spicy Bahamian charcuterie board amongst all the cupcakes, cookies and punch. Any suggestions?

How far is drifters from the cruise port
@ThisBahamianGyal
@ThisBahamianGyal Жыл бұрын
I don't know in terms of miles, but it's really not that far if you caught a taxi. You can literally see the cruise ships from Arawak Cay where Drifter's is located. You can also walk to it, but it's not like 5 minutes away. You. might be walking for 20 minutes from the cruise ships.

@This Bahamian Gyal in some of the videos I've seen, they say the taxis will try and scam you with one price at pickup and one at drop off. Do you feel that is accurate. Only fear going somewhere we need a cab

The word souse alone use to mean pork. Now they updated it due to people wanting something else. I have an old dictionary showing as Ouse meaning a pork spice stew. I wish people would use another term.
