10 Best Rangers Signings From Scottish Clubs

A look at 10 of the best Rangers signings from within the Scottish game since Dick Advocaat took over in 1998. As ever this is opinion based and just a bit of fun so if you think there is a player out there who has been unjustly left off the list stick a shout out to them in the comments and we'll perhaps return with a commentor edition in the future. Ricky Foster is however banned from inclusion on account of being mince.
Notes from the video, there are a couple of odd audio moments round the 7 minute mark where I've had to dub over lovingly calling Steven Gerrard the gaffer so please excuse.
Footage mainly sourced from RTV, some pre-Rangers footage being sourced from SPL/SPFL match highlights and relevant club channels

I feel like we did Lee Wallace dirty. He chose not to move on and we didn't even give him back anything. He deserves a testimonial or something like it.

Agreed. I know some have the view that he wouldn't have got a better contract elsewhere so stayed for that reason but I don't buy it. I do think he was moved on at the right time but the way it ended was poor on the part of the club in my opinion.

Lee Wallace will always be a club legend to me, a top guy, and as loyal as your shadow. What can you say about Big Marv, love the guy, 100% every game, gentleman of the highest order, i remember his words Keep Believing..He was so right we won the league at Easter Road. Kamara ....see Rolls Royce

Before the Advocaat era Davie Robertson and Andy Goram were two terrific signings from within Scotland during Smiths first term as manager could go further back still but those stick out for me from when I was getting into football. Whittaker was a great signing as well at the time even if he's not popular nowadays that goal against Sporting Lisbon was a thing of beauty. Enjoying your videos mate great content.

@@Top10Rangers the only thing I would say about souttar is his injuries, rangers don't have the best track record when I comes to players that seem to be injury prone.

@@andysawers6534 Yeah we're straight up cursed when it comes to players with knee injuries. He seems to have moved past it but I wouldn't pay much of a transfer fee with that in mind. Pre-Contract though? Hard to say no.

Why would he stay in Scotland? No one who is good and has ambition would stay here. Souttar is made for better things than The Old Firm

Kind of tackles that if its a Rangers player on the receiving end you want the culprit jailed yet I don't recall Thomson ever really causing an injury. Always got the feeling Kevin Thomson timed his tackles exactly how he wanted them timed. clean tackle or borderline red card.

Neil Mcann, Boydy, Sone Aluko, if he would have stayed would have had a better career........But for pure noise it has to be Nacho, just for the wind up alone, he was a thorn in their side. KT was a great player, injuries done for him.

Aluko was a bit of a grey one when putting it together since he left Aberdeen in the summer but was unable to sign for us until November but what a fantastic addition he was, one of the few shining lights in early 2012.

Not sure I agree with Ryan Jack being on the list. He's missed more than half of the available games since signing. Great player of course but can't seem to stay fit for more than 3 matches. No Goram or Ian Ferguson?

A fair point, I may be a little guilty of sliding into Ryan Jack fanboyism from time to time and can't promise not to again on the channel haha I've a soft spot for players who make others look better whilst going unnoticed... Just wait til a list covers Hemdani!

@Top 10 Rangers As I said - he's a first pick on the teamsheet when he's fit but it's practically a running joke at this point when his next injury will be. Ah, always liked Hemdani. Was speaking to some Rangers fans recently who sniggered when his name came up, as if he was a shite signing or something. Absolutely not. No UEFA Cup Final without him!

I can think of many better than those lister Andy Goram, Davie Cooper, Ian Ferguson, Tommy McLean, Davie Robertson immediately spring to mind

Cheers Mr Apples, I meant to stick it in the description that I mainly only look at Advocaat and on, both for purposes of being old enough to discuss in detail but also quality of footage, even early 2000s can look a bit ropey so further back is hard to cover.

Fuck a wis just sitting licking ma lips at all the players I just watched no one beats Boyd for goals but wee Neil McCann was ma favorite out them all plus a special mention to the boys that came fi Dundee 40K for Kamara pmsl all were very good signings BTW 😀 WATP 🙌 ✌💙👍

McCann was one I really don't think got the credit he deserved at the time and only now when folk look back realise how good he was. One of the first videos I did learning to put these together was about underrated players, when you look at how often McCann was the super sub instead of a starter, McCann was defo underrated by the managers of the time.

Wish I could my man! I'd kill to talk Rangers for a living but they take about 30 hours to put one video together and I've been stuck doing 45-50 hour weeks in work the past month or so. Hoping to have more time to produce a New Years Old Firm results and January signings over December though.

Exactly that Robert. Advocaat era and on is really what the channel is gonna focus on mainly for that reason but also footage is a bit harder to put together.

Sorry brother, I always forget which videos I’ve mentioned this in and which ones I haven’t but when the video is opinion based rather than numbers based I tend to stick to post-Advocaat era for a couple of different reasons.

This poaching of the best players is why the SPL is a shit coin toss of a league, yet they turn round and moan the league is poor.

One man's poaching is another man's transfer, players at smaller clubs aren't knocking back a move to the Old Firm the same way our stars aren't turning down a move the English Premier League. Its on the selling club to make sure they get a fair price. Personally I think the league is drastically underrated, especially in terms of TV revenue which is the bigger problem.

@@Top10Rangers You are right, but dont blame the standard of the league in that case for your failure in Europe. You demonstrably make your own league worse by denuding the competition of talent. You cant have it both ways. Drastically under rated? TV companies put money into things that people want to watch. No one wants to pay to watch the SPL on tv to any degree. Its a poor product at a poor technical standard, just look at the awful first touch. . Why watch that when you could watch 7-8 better quality leagues that aren't so predictable ? Remember tv companies poured money in before, but hardly anyone subscribed. If it was a good product, youd get the investment.

@@sandersson2813 I'm at work so sadly can't delve too deeply but I'm pretty certain Rangers average viewership on Sky will top the average English Championship game while the money isn't comparable. Technically it might not measure up but it is a far more interesting watch than 9 out of 10 sanitised EPL games.

@@Top10Rangers Im talking about the numbet of people who want to watch on tv via a subscription. Tv companies make very little money from Scottish football, hence the shit tv deal In what way is the SPL interesting? Its TERRIBLE.
