These are 10 photography and video camera hacks and tricks with household items that I use in real life, under 100 seconds! I shot everything on my Sony A7sii and my DSLR Nikon D500.

As a pro photographer for decades, never use vaseline even on a UV filter its a mess!! Get two UV filters and use clear nail polish. Leave center open about the size of a dime. Make one filter with a round center, the other one an oval. And for best result shoot wide open (lower number f-stop) You can also stretch a pair of stockings over the lens to make a cheap star filter.

I seriously hate the matchstick/lighter hack. It doesn't look like a flare at all, it just looks like you're holding a flame up to your lense!!

Its called using a lens filter, i guess only actual photographers know this considering everyone in this comment section cant stop freaking out over the vaseline, which is the oldest trick in the book...if anything people should be upset that this video wasted their time, cause i thought everybody knew these tricks lol

@@qupation7296 The Vaseline trick was the way we all did soft focus dreamy portraits before the advent of digital cameras & editing software. It doesn't harm the lens as long as you are careful when cleaning it afterwards.

I not quite sure what the hack are for. For example the burning match idea, detaching lens.. the effect was roughly introduced and result skipped.

I'm not sure about the matches either, but the detaching is supposed to make it look like someone waking up, or coming out of a dream, when your making a video/film.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Just to clarify, I state in the description that this video was inspired by Peter McKinnon, not copied. Favorites were the colorful bag and floating lens dream effect, especially since the dream effect is tedious to reproduce in post yet easy to do while filming...nice!

my tripod has the feature of the middle pole slide up and over for a horizontal angle 🤷🏻‍♀️ I couldn't work out what he was doing 🤣 and if you do try it, be sure to put a heavy weight on the chair, one of those sand filled door stops (cheaply found at kmart/walmart) works a treat.

Another trick you can try is to remove your lens and add a bit of water at your sensor. Then put your lens back, and you will have a lovely blurry effect on your pictures!

I think that these are probably some of the worst most ridiculous ideas for photo editing I have ever witnessed! I have the Canon EOS M50 and the Canon DS12 Rebel. I would never ever rub vaseline of all things, on my camera! I want to say to anyone watching this(amateur or professional) to never ever rub vaseline on your camera lens! Vaseline is extremely hard to clean off and is meant to be resistant to water, and considering the prices of lenses, I would never risk one of mine, especially a real Canon brand one! And if you really want to blur the edges of your photo, almost any photo/video editing program out there will have that as a choice!

rubbing stuff like Vaseline or oil is a thing some people still do, but you would only do it to a filter over the lens, which is what he seems to have done. What I don't get is why he would not tell the audience this, somebody might ruin their expensive lens instead of a cheap filter because of this advice.

I've found that using a boom mic stand works GREAT for the top down tripod effect. With an adapter to convert to a standard 3/8" threaded tip... You can do a lot with a nice boom mic stand.

I use a glass prism and a cd and hold at various angles in front of the lens to get nice effects, also if I’m using a wide aperture on a 50mm lens or more telephoto then you can just push your fingers up into frame from the edge
