(Cedars' vlog no. 343) Jehovah's Witnesses are deeply proud of their beliefs, claiming them to be Bible-based. But are they internally consistent and in harmony with science? In this video, I list 10 clear contradictions in the religion's teachings.
Timestamps:
10 - 01:10 Christmas and piñatas
09 - 06:52 Evolution and Noah's Ark
08 - 13:20 Anointed may be mentally imbalanced
07 - 16:02 God cannot lie but approves "theocratic warfare" & "new light"
06 - 22:57 Miracles v. "Jehovah's hand"
05 - 28:27 "Free will" v. threats of destruction
04 - 32:15 Infant baptism v. child baptism
03 - 39:00 Dissuade higher education (but happy to benefit from it)
02 - 42:17 Shunning and the "prodigal son"
01 - 47:37 The blood prohibition, leukocytes, and Saul's men

As someone born into the truth and raised by an elder I remember all of the times we had to "take a stand for Jehovah". Not saying cheers, not clinking glasses, not putting a tree in the house, no piercings/tattoos, my ex-husband being brought into the back room by elders and told to shave his beard off...(which he did). No ankle braclets (I really wanted one)... And now... Now PINATAS are okay?! Why I oughta!

I knew a 5 year old who was baptized as soon as he learned to read- even when I was fully indoctrinated I thought it was bizarre- he was a regular pioneer before he was in grade school... You should’ve seen the householder’s faces when this lil baby was giving bible presentations at their doors. He was a clever kid, to be sure, but it made me very uncomfortable to be at a door, standing silently behind this little child preacher while the householder just stares at me like, “Is this for real?” I always wonder how he is today- he’s an adult by now... I can’t imagine what his childhood could’ve been like.

Arthur, are you kidding me? Have you seen and heard how cold and loveless your "anointed" elders sound? These are the men that "Jehovah" has chosen. If there is a God like Jehovah who will only protect and give his guidence to the JWs because the go the the meeting and go door knocking (although technically we all know U don't want to do that, we all know y all secretly want the householder to not be home) how can a God like that just be like, yep the go to meetings, that will do... Fuck no dude. I was a jw and my whole family still is, and my. "worldly" friends show me so much more love than my own family who is wjs. And the funny thing is, I never got babtized, yet they see me as scum simply because I didn't follow them like a sheep. I'm glad though, because leaving the JWs has taught me what true love for family and friends is. I have and always will talk to my family and show them unconditional love. I will show my worldly friends unconditional love. Surprisingly the JWs DO NOT show unconditional love.... And your telling me God approves of that behaviour?? You my friend are incredibly delusional. All you people think is, oh, they have left the JWs, they are all now drug addicts and worship the devil. You make anyone who leaves seem like they are all Satan worshippers. We have free will. We have a right to have our own thoughts about your religion. And yet, we are the ones who show unconditional love. Honestly, if God truly is how you imagine it, I'd rather die. But I know in my heart, that God can see MY heart. He knows my thoughts, and he knows more than your elders, or anybody in your cult, he knows 100% in my heart what sort of a person I am.

I know a 4 year old girl who already talks about getting baptised and has asked her parents. Thankfully they themselves are reluctant to have her baptised at such a young age and are making her wait. Although I doubt they will make her wait long. Maybe until she is 10-11 years old at most. But it still goes to show the level of brainwashing and indoctrination on witnesses and specifically young kids. A 4 year old would only want to get baptised if they have had it drilled into their heads from the get-go. It's all they know. And at that age, they don't actually 'know' what they are saying.

Thank you! I left the JW religion before I watched a single "apostate" video exactly because of such contradictions! Especially the things about evolution. I came to the same conclusions myself, it's like we think in the exact same way. Guess it's just the way any rational person would think. And I didn't just leave in an instant, I tried to "save my faith" and discuss these matters with elders and friends, tried to find an answer, but to my surprise, they basically dismissed all of it. They were satisfied with absolutely unsatisfactory "explanations", everything basically boiled down to "goddidit": "oh, Jehovah just somehow made it possible with his holy spirit". It's like being in some kind of absurd theater, the problems are so obvious, yet no one seems to notice! This makes me so enraged, it's an insult to common sense!

I tried the same route too before finally giving up trying to reason with these people. I was attacked on all sides by family and friends for leaving an abusive husband despite the scriptural caveat found at 1Cor. 8: 10, 11. The elders just glared at me when I pointed this out from their Bible and declared I, was “unfit association” anyway. This led to a rather intensive period of research into the religion where I found multiple examples of the org justifying all kinds of things just because they said so. I discovered in one fell swoop that they only use scriptures when it suits them and blatantly ignore scriptures that don’t support their BS. Trying to discuss matters with elders or your JW family and friends is just impossible because of the Borg installed firewall that has in fact hijacked common sense and common decency. I recently had an hour long discussion over the phone with a JW woman I knew decades ago that was quite chilling. It was like trying to argue with “Dial a Prayer”, that one time thing you could access on the phone if you felt the need of spiritual encouragement. Nothing I said penetrated the fog of spiritual warfare. I didn’t let it get to me because my whole idea was to see if this woman had progressed even an inch from the dogmatic minion she once was. Nope. Yes it is infuriating, but my feeling now is have at it, arguing even politely just produces a plate of spaghetti where one strand leads to another one and it’s endless.

For legalistic consistency, the Watchtower should be telling it's followers not to live in homes with fireplaces mantles, because heathens would put household idols on the fireplaces. For that matter, they should not fireplaces because fire worshippers used them as shrines. Not candles, not knives, nor statues of any kind.

Thank you so much for your channel. I’m married to a JW I started to go to the meetings because at the beginning some of the stuff seemed to make sense. Then they told me I had to do field service. I said I didn’t want to. My brother-law told me he didn’t want to associate with me if I didn’t (which he later denied) when I asked why I had to do the field service, if it doesn’t say I have to in the Bible, my sister-law yelled at me and said,” because the ORGANIZATION says we gave to!”, she added I needed to do some research. I DID. I subscribed to your channel and watched your videos. When I confronted them with questions about some of your subjects they always had excuses and when I further pushed them they got very nasty. My brother and sister-in law no longer speak to me. When I bring up any question to my wife she gets all upset. I watched your recent video about the 10 contradictions and I confronted one of the elders with the Sauls army thing about the blood law and he said they didn’t violate the law. I also told him about the governing body paying their witness through law school, he said they don’t do that any more. Please give me one big, indisputable thing I can hit them with that will leave them speechless and they can’t comeback with any excuse and will really rattle them. Your the best Thank you.

If they really want to be accurate, Christmas and birthdays and similar celebrations have their origins much further back in history than Christ. The actual original belief systems that spawned these celebrations are well and truly gone as active religions, so I guess all bets are off. Believing that the current diversity of species etc came from the severely limited number of propagating pairs on the boat (Noah's Ark) is patently ridiculous. They want to use the science differentiating species and kind yet will not admit to the mechanism of evolution being required to do what they say happened. Looking at the Governing Body as a representative of the anointed, it seems that mental or emotional instability is a prerequisite. These contradictions alone are enough to refute the veracity of the teachings of the Watchtower organization, yet there are many many more of them. After all, 10% wrong means 100% wrong.

When you are 6 to even 20-30 years old, you simply haven´t got enough life experience to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life. We all change our mind about many things, especially if we have an open and investigating mind. Before i left JW 35 years ago, i saw several young witnesses being expelled and lost all contact to their families and their social network. And it´s the same sad story today.

I came from Anglican and then Eastern Orthodox background and I have a theological degree, though I'm not now religious. My understanding of "free will" is somewhat different, though problem you discuss is still there. I would just call it something a little different. Free will, as I understand it, is that we are not made to be automatons, or puppets. We are *capable* of making independent choices and they are not pre-programmed. This does not solve the problem of whether we are really given a legitimate choice when it comes to how we lead our lives. In the Orthodox understanding, hell is natural consequence of disconnecting oneself from God, more than it is a judicial punishment. While that understanding was far more appealing to me than others I had heard, it didn't occur to me that the natural consequences arises from a problem God himself created: the Fall. God planted the tree - and it was an "attractive nuisance" to use legalese. Of course a young (newly created, according to the story) person would be curious! You don't put something dangerous out where kids might get hurt by it just by exploring it. And of course, there's also the question of how Adam and Eve would know that disobeying God was bad before the Fall, is yet another question… for another day.

Well, if pinatas are considered okay, then why wouldn't the pagan holidays be as well? Afterall, many people consider that to be harmless, too. I think that it has more to do with not losing converts rather than sticking to the rules. By the way, what's the point of JWs worrying about it at all, since JWs aren't allowed to even have birthday parties, for example? Doesn't make sense to me. Because if a person is going to obey God, there can't be this pick and choose approach. It's OBEY, or not obey. It really bothers me when people misapply scripture. I am a new Christian. And I decided to read the Bible myself, and not look through any religious lens. And, I have found that there is NO religion that actually does follow or practice, or teach, what the Bible actually says 100%. That, most human beings follow their own doctrines, NOT Biblical doctrines. As far as the blood abstinence goes, I don't even want to get started on how strongly I feel about that!

Lloyd.... this is such a wonderful and respectful video. I love that you speak from love, logic , and compassion. I was always told about the prodigal son (hence the reason I am still shunned). But never really realized as you stated that his father did not even know the intent of his son but he ran to him out if genuine love. That meant so much to realize as I keep battling with myself on this. I have been free 6 years and overall happy but the shunning from my daughter and them convincing her to have never allowed my grandchildren to know me hurts like nothing else I have experienced. I am also a nurse and funny thing is I knew about the clostridium and WBC because we are taught about the immunity the infant receives from their mothers which has so much to do with breastfeeding but never correlated it with "abstaining from blood" I for one being in healthcare never accepted nor supported that doctrine but of course kept that to myself. I also knew and cared for a few witnesses whom under diress and fear of death of them or their loved ones accepted blood.. I never held that against them nor judged because had it been me I would have chosen the same. I treated them with comfort and love while they had to make a decision they perceived as being against "their faith". Lastly, I was always asked to volunteer/ "work" for free at the first aid during conventions..... had I not went to a college and obtained a higher education who would they have? Well done all the way around. I would share but they refuse to listen. Smh

When I was one of Jehovah's witnesses, I was taught that our unapologetic use of God's name in reference to ourselves was an honouric of God and a literal fulfilment scriptures that noted God's people preaching in his name. Recently, two people came to my door to preach and were going through their speil, when I noticed that they seemed very JW-ish except for a strange intent to seemingly hide who they were. They referred to themselves as Christians only, not using Gods name, and their tracts were rather non-denominational without obvious reference to Jehovah. But, I couldn't stop noting a very JW quality about them, having been one myself. They directed the conversation from the start in that very sales representative manner I was familiar with. So as not to allow a place for me to close off the flow of the conversation. At one point my curiosity was so peaked at my suspicion of who they were that I had to stop them to ask if they were JWs. They shared a quick glance at each other before confirming my suspicions. I was very interested in what appeared to be a new tactic of playing down God's name, almost as if acknowledging a reticence of peole to the JW brand. I thought it ironic that a people who interpret preaching in God's name is a literal fulfillment of scripture, would decide to now suppress that name in actuality.

Excellent video! Every subject that you covered made so much sense, that I can`t understand how JWs can see it clearly.

As an atheist who celebrates Christmas, I’d definitely say it’s more of a secular thing at this point, however I don’t believe it’s lost all religious context. There are a lot of people who still celebrate Christmas in a non secular way.

Good luck buddy, JWs have much confidence in their growth un Africa, mostly due to poverty and lack of education but I know Africa is better than that and will shine in the coming years, it is already starting to do so in some countries. Just beware of flawed ideologies like socialism and totalitarist governments like communism.

@@ShoNuffSoulBro1 Thanks bro. I got the profile pic off an apostate created memorial invitation (2013 memorial) featuring Walter White in place of Jesus. With the words: One Man Died for all: Who is this man? How does his death help us? Why is it important that we say his name?

I recall when going to Kingdom Hall meetings with my mother between 1974 and 1985 (I was ages 5 to 15), it was a matter of pride to her that the JWs would NEVER baptise children, that's what set them apart from the Catholics and other Christendom Churches, was that THEY baptised children, but JWs would only baptise a fully developed emotionally, physically, and spiritually ADULT who could make an adult decision about their devotion to Jehovah. The JW religion that exists in 2021 is not the JW religion that existed in the 1960s to 1980s, not only in small functional ways, but in extreme theocratic teachings that are fundamentally what made them the unique cult that set them apart from mainstream Christianity. They are just day-traders collecting bitcoin behind a website, it's hilarious.

The contradiction about the blood issue and how you broke that down about babies receiving white blood cells through breast milk really woke me up to how nonsensical the doctrine is. WOW.

At 43 minutes in, when you talk about how they practice shunning, and what the Bible says about it, I was thinking that too. I have been studying the Bible and I noticed that same thing. Also, the blood cells that are in meat, which they do not abstain from, yet a transfusion is prohibited. Seems like their own selection process of which rules they will impose and when, is done arbitrarily.
