In this video we go through 10 defunct rides in Blackpool Pleasure Beach. This is one of the oldest and most well known theme parks and amusement parks in the UK, so it's no surprise that many rides have been lost along the way. From some recent closures like Wild Mouse to older closures like Drench Falls Log Flume, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has changed a lot over the years. There are some walkthroughs like Trauma Towers and Noahs Ark and also some dark rides like Magic Mountain and Gold Mine that are no longer in the park and just part of Blackpool Pleasure Beach history.
Some other flats rides like The Whip, Black Hole and Turtle Chase are all now gone too to make room for newer attractions. And while the monorail track is still there, it's no longer operating. We hope you enjoy this trip through Blackpool's attraction graveyard!
Are there any other defunct Blackpool Pleasure Beach rides you remember? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!

Wild mouse should of been listed and protected as wooden wild mouse's are very very rare, plus it still stood up as a great ride, they didn't tell anyone they were retiring it as there would of been a riot. On another note you forgot about space invader man the memory's I have of that ride.

Well what a trip down memory Lane that was, I miss the old rides, they gave the pleasure beach a charm and quirkiness that sadly today no longer exists. I loved the goldmine as a kid, waving to my mum having a coffee on the Magnolia cafe as the ride meandered through above the river caves. Ahhhh happy days

Nice video. I would have included The Reel in that list. A wooden spinning coaster built in 1922 and demolished in 1982. I went on it a few times the year before they took it down and it was great fun.

There was a ride that was like space mountain from Disney that has also gone, it was called Space Invader, fantastic ride. And another ride I can’t remember the name, you walk in a type of fun house and then there is this room with a massive table where everyone sits around it and it spins, that was a fun ride

I have such fond memories of Magic Mountain as a kid, and also of the Greatest Show on Earth Ride as well. Also the Mine Train and River Caves interaction in the blue grotto. I still can't believe they completely got rid of that instead of retheming it. That interaction in such a fantasy location was mind blowing as a kid! What I'd give to go back and ride them one last time.

They had to get rid of it, as it repeatedly failed the new European ride evacuation time limits. In other words, it took too long to evacuate the ride, in its current incarnation, in the event of a fire.

i think walk through fun houses are a liability. In the US very few parks have them anymore, mostly fairs and carnivals, but Kennywood in western PA has a Noah's Ark and Bushkill Park near Easton, PA not too far from me has a 100 year old funhouse that just reopened this year after being closed for a while. It got a new paint job. It's a small park with a handful of rides, the park was flooded a few times in the 2000's. The US has become more sue happy, what about the UK?

Here is a fun fact.) While writing this I noticed how many ride names Alton Towers or PB robbed lol As it was last updated in 2011, Google Maps has not updated the park since the date. This means that icon has not yet been added and the defunct 'Gold Mine' is still for some reason featured on the map. It also contains a few other older defunct rides including the monorail and wild mouse. This is the same for another park known as Alton Towers, not updating for a long period of time. This means the 'Smiler' has not yet been added and the older tent for the ride 'The Black Hole' still stands in Google Maps. In addition, the wooden coaster Wickerman is still featured as the log flume.

Yes it did, it was a fantastic ride "The Reel", you were taken up the chain lift in round tub shaped cars, then it snaked its way to the bottom of the zig-zag track , it was pretty fast going round the bends and the cars spun aswell, I remember the ride finished with quite a drop that went through a tunnel back to the beginning, great memories.

I have ridden rollercoasters all over the world avidly since a kid and the Wild Mouse is the only one that actually scared me. Am sure it was safe but it just felt like a rickety-rackety death trap! Having said that back in 1988 we had to be rescued off the old Log Flume as it got stuck on the first ascent going up. We had to climb down ladders which we found hilarious but as compensation they gave us such big books with tickets for free rides it took us (and friends and family) over 2 years to 'spend' them all!

You’re not kidding - I got sent to hospital for stitches after an accident in the Fun House. I got kicked in the face on that wooden wheel thing and still have the scar over 35 years later. My dad lost his car keys on the Tagada and it was back in the day when the park would stay open after midnight. He left us at the car whilst he went back to look. He was gone ages. The wild mouse was a ride that Pleasure Beach went to extreme lengths to try and keep operating, they only got rid of it when they simply had no other option in the end😞, i’m not going to go into the exact thing that led to it but long story short they couldn’t get insurance for it anymore after something happened in August 2017 and that’s what killed it off. But it’s clear they were trying very hard to keep it as they had spent an absolute fortune on magnetic brakes on the final break run replacing the manual brakes that were on the brakerun before.

I don't like rides with generic themes turned into rides with licensed themes from something from tv, movies, etc. It's like they wanted something that everybody knows about, at least in the UK. There was a mine ride coaster in Wildwood, NJ on an amusement pier and it closed after 1998 and the track was sent to Knoebel's where a new indoor coal mine ride was built.

Yes, a classic! I’ve just ridden two US versions at Kings Island and Cedar Point (the former being my personal favourite as it was all in its sinister black guise, just like Blackpool’s defunct version was). At least those parks still have the foresight to maintain such cherished rides. The Fun House was brilliant. Parents would bring the kids to let off steam - wooden rides - big slides, motorised spinny platform that you had to try and stay on as it spun faster. Health and Safety nightmare these days but fantastic fun. Word was it was torched for the insurance. I don't know how true that is. It was a very sad day though.

The Black Hole (waltzer) was the second attraction in that dome. The dome itself was built to house the Journey Into Space attraction, which was essentially a planetarium. The main floor had rows of high-backed seats and at the start of the “show”, the floor tilted about 20 degrees so you were looking upwards.

It was actually 2005 that the black hole ceased operation, its final season was 2004 as it was still on the park map, the reason I know that is because when I visited in October 2005 they were quite literally removing it while I was there I have very brief footage of it on an old VHS that took of the time. This is one of the other rides they missed the most as again like trauma towers it could be enjoyed regardless of the weather and was also one of the very first waltzers I remember riding and enjoying!, Do you need black colour scheme with the fluorescent cat’s-eyes made it stand out from other waltzers as well, and was probably one of the best flats on Park as well in my opinion.

One of my favourite rides was the mini-coaster that was right at the back of the park close to where the Steeplechase is. I can't for the life of me remember the name of it, may have been 'Tornado' something. It wasn't a high coaster, but it was very fast, and was the first 'coaster' I ever went on. I don't think it's there anymore.

Just about everything that was special about this park has gone for boring rides that just go fast and cause a headache. Valhalla is a shadow of its former self.

It's what draws the younger generations, fast rides and coasters that make your stomach sick. The dark rides and themed indoor rides are not as popular with younger generations raised on technology.

Used to love the Magic Mountain as a kid. Given that the owners were friends with Walt Disney, do you think the Magic Mountain might have inspired It’s a Small World at the Disney theme parks?

Never did Magic Mountain. Loved Gold Mine. Drench Falls was one of the best flumes around. Wild Mouse needed to go as it was to costly to keep in use. It was a good coaster if you enjoyed getting whiplash. Noah's Ark today is just a piece of scenery. Trsuma Towers was fun and the ride was good. Never did Turle Chase but love these type of rides. Black Hole was ok.

Wild mouse was awesome. The whip you’d get as it turned the almost 90 degree turns was mental but in a good way. The more worrying bit was not head butting the person in the front seat when on the drops. 😂

Nobody ever mentions the Huss Rainbow ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach? There is hardly any pics of it on the net either but it's was absolutely stunning and stood at the entrance by Noahs ark from 84-89? Does anyone remember it? Or have any footage

Theme parks are replacing entertaining rides and attractions with thrilling rides. I think this takes away atmosphere. I used to love walking round the parks smaller attractions and stalls for free as suffering at heights i could only manage the railway, boats etc. whilst enjoying candyfloss on a stick, also lost these days.

The wild mouse was a great ride if you had a girl in the front. The big one however takes some beating still.250 foot at the top its half the height of the Tower but a superb piece of engineering. There was a Big Swing on the south pier I also went on which was mad.

Youve missed one the octopus or monster which was replaced by the Playstation i was the Chargehand on the monster for 4 years in the 1980s it was a bastard of a ride to operate only a handful of staff could operate it if you got wrong it was hell, one of the arms with the carragies on would spin out of control,it had from memory 5 different levers it was brought to a stop by juggling these levers, brakes, spin rotation all at the same time,i also did the maintanance on the Noah ark and Alice in wonderland rides in the winter, shit wages, long hours lots of girlies happy days gone by.Monster is what we called it
