These were bit basic! I would add Buy proper tinting brush like hairdressers use; Wear old clothes; pre-treat grey hair with 9% hydrogen peroxide- apply with cotton wool for about five minutes before you dye as it opens up the cuticles; always use a SLS free shampoo as this keeps colour in the hair for longer, do a test if its a new colour (choose a lock of hair out of sight); intensive conditioning fortnightly and I also use coconut oil on my hair ends before I wash it; choose the right shade - I am cool toned but for years I had a honey golden tone but recently went Ash and that has transformed me; buy shade lighter then you think you need, dye always goes darker!; don't buy a that expensive special root touch up colour, just buy a box of your regular one and mix a small amount (one part colour, one part developer, I use a plastic 5m spoon) and apply to your roots along the hair line and mix it in a small glass bowl. Do not use metal tools such as metal clips or rat tail combs with the metal tail on it as these can cause an unwanted reaction with the colour. Stick to plastic. Do not wash your hair for 24-48 hours prior to colouring your hair as the natural oils in your hair and on your scalp help protect the hair and scalp from irritation and damage. Always choose a shade lighter than what you are wanting to go as the colour will come out a bit darker (e.g. if you want to go light brown, choose dark blonde). If you're cool toned, your veins will appear bluish and you burn easily in the sun, if you're warm toned, your veins will appear greenish and you generally tan easily. If you're neutral, your veins can appear either colour but your skin may burn in the sun then go brown later. That being said, if you're cool toned, stick to cool shades with tones in the names such as Ash, beige, champagne, burgundy, cherry, (if you want a red shade), violet, blue and pearl. If you're warm toned, go for shades with tones such as mahogany, golden, auburn, copper, chestnut and warm. If you're neutral, you can rock any shade! All skin tones can wear neutral shades as neutral shades do not have any undertones . Shades such as 'natural light brown' are neutral shades. All shades are represented by a number. 1 being black to 10 being the lightest blonde. Secondary numbers represent the undertones. 1 is ash, 2 is violent, iridescent or pearl, 3 is gold, 4 is copper, 5 is mahogany, 6 is red, 7 is green or matte, 8 is mocha (7 and 8 aren't common though). Some brands use letters instead (e.g A=ash, B=beige, C=copper, G= Gold, BR= Burgundy, R= Red, V= Violet, etc).
