I love the bit where John Simm's master sings along to 'I can't decide' by the scissor sisters and pushes david tennant in his aged prosthetics around in a wheelchair, you could just see david tennant trying not to laugh! 😂 I also love the bit in partners in crime where the doctor and donna are signing to each other through the windows, Catherine tate is hilarious! 😂😊

Best bit in that episode was when the Master killed Jack and then said, gleefully, “the great thing is, in a few minutes, I GET TO KILL HIM AGAIN!!” (Or something like that). Brilliant! Simms delivery (and general scene-stealing, was excellent!)

The Master posing as Rasputin served absolutely no purpose in the story other than to justify the musical number. It reminded me of when he disguised himself as an elderly mystic in "Time-Flight" and a scarecrow in "Mark of the Rani" for literally no reason other than "he's the Master and he uses disguises."

I feel like people are too harsh to Graham Crowden as Soldeed. If you didn't know, the labor strikes of 1979 had affected shooting schedules for the 17th season of doctor who to the point where they didn't have time to rehearse. Graham Crowden was hamming it up thinking it was a rehearsal, so he was horrified to learn that it was the only take.
@weatherwitchandfelinefamiliars

That's an interesting point. Many TV shows were badly affected by the strikes, I remember Fawlty Towers too being affected by several different strikes. It really messed up lots of things at the time but I never thought about the legacy that created, let alone the invention of the Internet where it would be shown again for all to see forever. And judge Crowdens acting on!

If you include Sacha Dhawan's dance to Rasputin, there's another that I feel should get an honourable mention. Though, apparently this scene has been cut from the American version of the episode. In the 2007 Series 3 finale Last of the Time Lords, at one point John Simm's Master does a lip synch dance to the Scissor Sisters' I Can't Decide. Similarly, it's mad, it's bonkers, it's silly... But it is still kind of funny.

“Here come the drums! Here come the drums!” The Master chewing the scenery. His wife just slightly moving to the beat. Should have been cringe, but was, well, masterful… and, from the same story, the torture and death of the journalist, where the Master keeps opening and closing the door, and her scream is still going. Anyway, these scenes add to the uniqueness of Doctor Who. They shouldn’t work, but they do.

I might throw in the one part of William Hartnell's The Chase where they supposedly listen in on Shakespeare talking with the Queen and Francis Bacon. It has a couple of inaccuracies, it doesn't move the plot forward, it's of lesser quality that the other similar bits involving Abraham Lincoln and the Beatles - and yet, it's kinda fun seeing them interact, and it's funny to see Shakespeare appearing with two other people who are often weirdly credited as possible Shakespeares by the anti-Stratfordians.

Hi Ellie, thank you for your wonderful work. I have been watching Doctor Who since 1963. I was about 12 years old when I was thoroughly enjoying watching Jon Pertwee doing his corny cool Venusian Aikido. And I was also really happy to see the master do his Ra Ra Rasputin dance last year. I want to thank you so much because it is so wonderful for me to see someone as young as you enjoy the show in it’s entirety and share your passion in this way. I should have expected the Kandyman to show up on one of these videos--it was jarring, yet as you said, fit the set in a world where sadness is outlawed. And the whole 'chocolate' thing really was amusing: a high ranked Sontaran soldier sending everyone out so he can grab the stuff for himself. :D You can bet the Doctor used that to her advantage. And no one can forget the Rasputin dance. Its such a new who Master tradition, it would not feel right without it. the icing on the cake, as others before me have said, culminates in the 'alliance' he forged exchanging glances with their sworn enemies.

@@weatherwitchandfelinefamiliars Venusian Aikido was an integral part of the 3rd Dr's action man/james bond persona. Something he specifically used so as to not have to resort to more lethal forms of protection (Tom Baker used several of these techniques throughout his run as well.) To dismiss an entire character trait and lump it beside one-time "goofy/cringe" moments seems incredibly disingenuous. This channel has often been criticized for taking classic who out of context (because they admit themselves that they don't bother to watch it) and this just seems like a lazy jab at the old show they are not familiar with.
@B__C__
@B__C__ Жыл бұрын
@@yusteles Actually Baker was more of a brawler who used fists (see Seeds of Doom). The 3rd Doctor's "Akkido" was a bit 70's TV Karate "I can kill you with a chop" (and sorta cringe worthy for that reason alone) but that's fine, I loved Pertwee in the role of a striking, quasi-hippy forced (in a way) to grumpily work with an international security/military outfit kinda brought home the alien-ness of the character (at least to his immediate surroundings) and played into all of those 1970's spy show tropes. . The fact that Pertwee was actually tall, dynamic and physically imposing and game made him perfect for the role at the time. As for the channel's focus, yeah I would love to see more of the old Who stuff too but youngster's these days and all of their fancy word processors, and pagers, and 8-track players--what are you gonna do aye? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
