Jiub was killed in the Siege of Kvatch. In the Soul Cairn, he mentions seeing a Dremora right before getting beheaded, and during the Siege of Kvatch in Oblivion you can enter a ruined house containing a single Dremora. He's wielding a claymore, and is one of the few characters in the game who has a chance to drop a black soulgem. And the piece de resistance is the severed Dunmer head, complete with a gnarly face scar, sitting on a stool right next to the daedra. It's a very minor Easter Egg, but it's incredibly well done.

I think the best part of Jiub's appearance in Skyrim is that instead of using the usual male Dunmer voice from Skyrim, he uses the male Dunmer voice from Morrowind, from the original voice actor!

@Gary Garratt I recently played baldur's gate and it was astounding to me how it really is true the 90s and early 2000s were the golden age of gaming, especially for real RPGs.

@Gary Garratt I am not super young, about 20, though by the time I was old enough to play such games the era passed. I'll never experience the true nostalgia but I always have appreciated older games and can order all the classics cheap or emulate them. Thank you for more titles to put on my backlog, I want to experience these classics not just for enjoyment but also inspiration and one day I can show my own children these great titles that may be forgotten to history while the industry probably continues to decline. thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

@Gary Garratt Yup i agree, i was always dissapointed how dumbed down it got for oblivion then skyrim come out which is basically just fallout with a new skin what i'd give for it to be at least like oblivion level system. Morrowind was all trial and error, i loved that it didn't hold my hand and could mess up the main quest or my character if i screw up leveling up but you learn start a new character and learn the different race perks and what to do and what not to do.... also the game shouldn't save people from their own stupidity, if i kill an important NPC that's tough shit a simple warning was enough in morrowind that let you know you fucked up. Also the leveling up was great not perfect but once you learn what you want for a character and where to put points, its really not that hard at all and you see big gains later in game. Skyrim is too casual friendly... anyone can play and every race is pretty much equal. The perks don't really matter anymore like it did in morrowinds, races/star sign they took the life and soul out of the game.

My favorite Morrowind memory, and good peak at the depth of the game... was on the coast, exploring ruins... the ruins extended underwater, I followed and there was stuff you could get, I think I found a chest underwater there... eventually I near a statue... And then I meet the Deadric Lord, Boethiah... his statue was submerged and he wanted a new one. Keep in mind, this is a pretty random encounter. I swam past a statue underwater to activate this quest. This statue was near nothing and was completely submerged, a ways from the shore. I am sure there was some way to find a book that told you where the statue was, or some other way to start the quest and set you looking... but I just stumbled into it early in the game. The quest then involves research. I had to find and read books. Then I had to hire a particular stone mason based on what I learned in the books... then I have to scout a location. Once I find a good spot... (keep in mind, no map pointer, no 'go here, get this book, now go to the next flashing arrow and hire the orc'... no... you had to figure all of this out yoursel). So you find the location, hire the orc, and a crew... materials... then set them work. Then the construction continues in real time. Takes months. You can return and check on the progress and gradually it takes shape from the cliff face. Eventually the new shrine is completed and Boethiah gives you a rather kickass sword. This had NOTHING to do with the main quest. It was a side quest, and an obscure one at that... but the thought that went into it? I tip my hat to that team.

M'aiq the liar mentions the statue vaguely, but I think it's the only time it is brought up. My most memorable part of Morrowind is that wizard that falls from the sky just as you take the left path out of Seyda Neen. Cracked me up. I also remember taking the scrolls off his corpse and using them (to my usual demise). One time I used one in Vivec, jumped miles away, somehow survived the landing on a hillside, and got 100 acrobatics. Good times. Oh, and also stealing literally everything from the poor shopkeeper in Suran that refuses to actually call the guards.

***** A lot easier to make dialogue when you dont have to worry about the VA's. Just type away. It's also great to try and exaust all dialogue options in Morrowind. In Skyrim you do that in 3 minutes. In morrowind if you grab a servant you can spend some 50 to 80 minutes depending on your reading speed to read through all. And by the time you are done you have so much lore its retarded.

It also sorta required Morrowinds existence.. to.. ya know, exist? So it was the foundation for Skyrim, whether you choose to deny it or not) Then you got Skyrim... That game that lasted so long, they had to make a newer version of it, to keep it up-to-date. So yeah, what was your argument again?
@STILLTHEBEST-cm8ph
@STILLTHEBEST-cm8ph 7 жыл бұрын
Ding ding ding! You got it right ! I meant it doesn't deserve it, but you obviously knew what I meant so I don't get why that first part was necessary. Yes, people do make mods for Morrowind, but there's no point in mentioning that considering all of the other TES games have an active modding community. In 15 years why don't we see if Oblivion and Skyrim have active modding communities and we can see on which lasted longer... Morrowind was the foundation for Skyrim and Oblivion, but both of those games improved greatly on Morrowind's mechanics. I doubt most people got this, but Skyrim SE wasn't for pc... it was made so console players got to have better graphics and faster loading times. Why do you think pc players who had the legendary edition got it for free? Now that I'm done with that, I'll get to my argument. Have you ever looked up 'Morrowind character creation'? Have you seen all of the character creation guides? Yes? No? Well, that doesn't matter because all you see is guides. Compare that to.. Skyrim. Now, when you look up 'Skyrim character creation', what do you see. A couple guides, yes, but you also see mods, videos, and 'beauty' guides.Compare that to Morrowind. Let the results of both searches sink in for a moment. Yes, I know that EVERYONE uses this but the combat.. the combat it so bad. People say "Well, treat it like a table top rpg!" but we're not playing a table top rpg. We're playing a video game. Last thing I'm gonna say, the journal/quests. I get that some people have no life (or way too much time) and can spend 10 hours trying to get from point A to Z in games, but not everyone has that time. And I'm not even taking emotions into account. I'm pretty sure most people would be frustrated about either going the wrong way or running back and forth.

When you look up "how to make a build for skyrim" you come up with the same LVL 60 Thief-mage-warrior-vampire-werewolf hybrid. If you want to actually consider the game "completed" In morrowind, you literally imagined it yourself. As though you were playing a Dungeons and Dragons game (I am basically saying you need creativity and imagination or else it is pointless) It don't get better than that. Also, why is time relevant? If you really care about time being spent in a game, don't play an RPG. EVER. or a video game for that matter. The definition of a hobby is to waste time doing something you enjoy. Maybe you just don't like traditional RPGs and instead prefer Action Adventure games (with stealth elements)? There's a hint. I stand by everything I said in my previous comments. P.S. I don't see why your first comment was necessary

as someone who did not grow up with morrowind and started with skyrim and went in reverse with the games going all the way to the first (thanks dosbox) i can say WITH NO NOSTALGIA that morrowind does not hold up well, its clunky, slow, full of bullshit ways to die, fucking cliffracers, and WHY DOES MY SWORD NOT HIT THIS THING!!! dont get me wrong i appreciate morrowind for everything its done but EVERYTHING it did has been done better now. oblivion (even if it isnt the prettiest) is the perfect mixture of both skyrim and morrowind for me and i feel it held up much better. I revisited Morrowind this summer and with various mods to upgrade the combat and visuals and had a fantastic experience. I'd been afraid to go back to it because I knew that time had passed it by in terms of graphics especially. That said, what shocked me the most after playing so many modern games, including both Oblivion and Skyrim was how much more difficult/challenging Morrowind was to play. Of course, there was also much more freedom (if you can dream it up you can probably either do it or create it in Morrowind). When you achieve something in Morrowind it feels like a real achievement and that only adds to the joy of the game. While the fighting mechanics are random and rely on D&D style rolls of the dice (unless you mod it a bit) Morrowind still offers much to players. The story is richer than any of the followup games and the limitations on maps and fast travel that we take for granted today really do add something because the player is forced to go out and ask for directions and explore his/her world rather than just heading from place to place. All of that makes it feel even more open as there's no pressure to stay on this questline or that one and plenty of time to roleplay. A lot of the things that make Morrowind special might not work today but there are plenty of other things that it offers that RPGs would do well to revisit and incorporate into more modern games. It would be nice to see devs from all RPGs revisit the things that worked in Morrowind in future games without compromising the improvements that have been made in the years that have followed.

I just installed Daggerfall yesterday and already I'm feeling like I need a dedicated gaming "rig" with a CRT monitor. I feel like Morrowind could take the same treatment. I haven't played Daggerfall enough to really know, but Morrowind would be a much better experience with it, and I'd gladly share it just because it's just that great of a game. I cann't really describe it, maybe nostalgia, but it just feels so good and modern games have never scratched that same itch.

Shrike Alrighty... so when you start a new character, you get off the boat and step into that office. On the shelves, there is a limeware platter worth $$$. Pick it up. You get a free pass and a warning about stealing since you just started. HOWEVER, when you pick it up, INSTANTLY drop it. You'll still get the talk of disappointment, but since you dropped it, the programming in Morrowwind registers that platter as having no owner. You can pick it right back up with no issues, and you can go sell it. Head to Balmora (been forever, I think that's how it's spelled), join the thieves guild. Buy some lock picks and buy levels in lock picking. Do the first few missions. There's a guard tower in the town, opposite side of the town, near the member of The Blades. Inside that tower on top of a bookshelf or cabinet or some shit, you can barely see a hilt to The Sword Of White Woe. Steal it and sell it. Buy more lock picks and levels in lock picking. Anything else you come into contact with, steal and sell. There's an early thieves guild mission where you steal a diamond. I may have sold that as well instead of turning it in??? Anyway, head to Vivic, directly to a vault. There should be those fancy yellow guards all over the place, but no biggie. Pick the locks right in front of them because you're a god damn fucking Alpha. It will take MANY tries. The guards will be like, "Plz stop." And you pay $5 gold for each attempt. You should have enough money from selling shit beforehand. Eventually, you'll unlock it. Step in, shut the door, stay out of sight to become hidden. Boom, epic treasure, weapons, and armor.

the worst thing about morrowind is the terribly organized jurnal, if you get side tracked you'll spend the next ten minutes or more trying to find the last main quest entry so you know how to proceed. also few thinsg are really time consuming ocne you know how to speed things up. get the boots of blinding speed, make a level 100 resist magika spell for one second. cast the spell equip the boots aquire a rising force potion, travel to vivec temple, offer the rising force potion to the shrine under the ministry of truth and you are flaying across vaardenfel in minutes.

@@windhelmguard5295 The journal is not "terribly organized". It is just laid out like an actual journal. If you got the quest three days ago, you have to go back to the section of three days ago. If you were an actual adventurer just off the boat in Morrowind, would you be naming your quests, or jotting down notes as you get them? Tribunal added some options to find old conversations and bring up quest entries, and all the entries are linked together. That made finding things easier, but I never let them sit long anyway.
@windhelmguard5295
@windhelmguard5295 5 жыл бұрын
@@tristanmitchell1242 if i actually was an adventurer off the boat in morrowind, i wouldn't even be keeping a jurnal because my memory is good enough for me to keep things that matter memorized and if i ever needed to take notes i would put some scribbles on a piece of paper which is thrown into a fire once i no longer need it, i certainly wouldn't keep my still relevant notes burried under a pile of no longer needed ones. problem is that i'm not an adventurer fresh off a boat to morrowind, i'm an adult in the real world who has shit to do and places to be, so memorizing all my quests is sadly not a thing i can do anymore.

I played Morrowind back in about 2004 for the first time. I thought it was AMAZING. Granted I hadn't played any games other than old Nintendo (Dragon Warrior 4 was my favorite). When I get my new laptop I plan to put some games on it. Morrowind will be one of them. I prefer to play theive characters and am able to get my level up really high in about 20-30mins from starting a game. I just have a good starter plan. Once I am up there I love how open it is go just go where ever and do whatever. Lots of side quests. You can just get lost in it. And I also agree the music is great. I love when it starts to rain too... kinda soothing. And the sound effects, like the creatures. Yeah, it's one of those ones I got lost in for hours. I think one of my favorite quests are the ones given by Azura. Her voice is pretty awesome too.

God I love Morrowind so fucking much. I honestly think it's the best game ever. Dated but just amazing. Oblivion is somewhat comparable but in a different way. Staada you kill for the Azura daedric quest in Morrowind. She is the head of the Golden Saints in Shivering Isles, the Oblivion expansion You just said she appears in ESO. And then there is Skyrim, the red-headed stepchild of the family. There are basically no Daedra in Skyrim, just a Dremora and Atronachs. Magic in general was pretty crappy in Skyrim. No customization, no multi-effect spells. Just "Here is a fire spell. It spews flames. Here is another fire spell. it shoots flames. Here is yet another fire spell. It shoots larger flames." The only interesting thing was Runes, which allow for traps if used right. There was no "open", no "levitation", no "summon Scamp", no "Reflect Magic", no "absorb health", and no "Disintegrate Weapon/Armor".

Ah, Morrowind. How I love this game. I was in school for the Air Force when I bought the game back in 03/04. My first character was a Bosmeri Thief, which I enjoyed greatly. On a Thieves Guild mission in Balmora, I got into a scrap with House Hlaalu's guards, culminating in the death of someone named Nileno Dorvayn. Hundreds of hours later, I needed to get Hlaalu's support to become Hortator for the main quest - only to realize my earlier murder spree put me on their bad side. The person I needed to speak to make amends? Yup, Nileno Dorvayn. I broke the main quest and was forced to start over. I never loved a game so much as I did for that. Actual consequence. It was only later I learned I could've talked to Crassius Curio to make amends, which really got me. I've yet to see a game since that had actual consequence as this.

You forgot to mention that in Morrowind you are one of the basically founders of Raven Rock and in Skyrim if you go back there - a few hundred years later - it's like looking at a child grown up. That moment for me was spectacular. I also liked that Skyrim took one of the main musical themes from Morrowind, felt like home :)

CHIM, C0DA, zero-sum anyone? This game had such an exceptional, well-thought, sophisticated and obscure lore that even after more than 13 years people still argue over its details.
@-..-_-..-

almost all of that was invented like 10+ years after the game came out. even what chim means isn't described by any in-game lore, it was all written out later by michael kirkbride based on basically his headcanon.

the morroiwnd soundtrack is highly overrated. the individual tracks are nice but they simply don't cut it, with how long the game is, hearing the same tracks over and over and over again i started geting sick to death of it. luckily you can copy the music filles from an oblivion folder into the morrowind folder to add more variety but even then it's hardly enough to not hear repeats over and over with how big the game is.

Spellcrafting and the magic system in general was fantastic. I hated by loved that you really had to master a school of magic to be able to use more powerful spells consistently. My absolute favorite spell was Fortify Jump. Alchemy was also really cool, requiring you to assemble your own lab of up to 4 pieces of equipment each of which could be of different build quality and each contributing to more powerful and pure potions.

This game is phenomenal. While mechanically the games have gotten better with Oblivion (kind of) and Skyrim (very much) I still think Morrowind was by far a better game in both story and world building. Vivec is still up there as one of the most amazing cities in any video game. And so much awesome armor! Indoril and Her Hands. And of course the Royal Guard set. So epic.

I miss being able to fly. Bring back the levitation potion. Oh male PC could where skirts. You could use spears. Last but not least the quirky spell system the allowed things like spell permanence if you added soul trap to the spell and cast it at your feet.
@BananaBLACK

Being able to exploit the spell system in a "in game" kinda way by commanding non-essential NPCs to be your body guards made me feel like a boss wizard. You just had to be careful not to "sever the threads of prophecy". Which as will all know could happen when playing straight. There where near 80 essentials that were killable. So you say glitch. I say legendary level game mechanic.

One of the many great things about Morrowind is that, after the chargen you can do anything you want to. You dont have to do any quests if you dont want to. You can just wander out into the world and have a blast. Made and released over 100 mods for Morrowind, started with Morrow Ravens and then Caits horses /donkeys and never stopped for years. Miss the days of the old mod forums and the many friends i made. Those were the best of times.

STORY TIME - Dear Falcon, Here's my Interesting/Dull memory of Morrowind Recently moving into the new city back in 2002, my mom brought me and my little brother out to check out the city and do some shopping. She found one of those liquidation stores that had a sizeable video game collection. Two games caught my eye with the box art. Diablo II and Morrowind. I knew nothing about either game. Morrowind has more appealing screen shots in the back of it than Diablo, so that was my reference point into what kind of game I was going to be. I still held both boxes the whole time unsure which I wanted to play. Until we got to the cashier my mom noticed the skull on Diablo II and obviously told me to take the other one, I was 11 After all. I knew I wanted Morrowind the whole time but i thought i could get away with her buying me two video games. At the time we also got our first family PC, and I knew nothing about PC and gaming. My only gaming console prior to that was a Sega genesis and N64. My knowledge on gaming with PC's was very much like a console. I put the game in it plays. Well our PC couldn't play the stupid game. I didnt know anything about graphics card, or minimum requirements until after the purchase. This totally killed PC gaming for me. I thought, man these things suck if you have to buy a better one all the time. I still really wanted to play it cause the art inside the box looked amazing and I never played a First Person type game before in my life. Honestly, I never heard of Doom or Wolfeinstein. Anyway so I tell this to a new friend I made in class the next day how stupid PC's are. He asked if he can borrow it and I said sure. But I was clear about how I wanted it back as soon as he beat it. I never got the fucking game back. I asked him again before we graduated grade 8 in 2003. He played dumb. He stills own my game (my mom's technically) To this day I have never played it. My first elder scrolls game was Skyrim. Every minute i put into that game was incredible. Totally immersed. Being hooked into this series almost 10 years later I started to work way backwards. I played Oblivion. I loved so much, especially with all the expansions. And still I think about Morrowind and that stupid kid I lent it to. His name was Imre; pronounced Em -ree. I still don't know anything about the game until I watched this. Best part, I just bought it during a steam sale and I own a MACbook...I still can't play it being a PC only title. I'll be buying Parallels soon enough. I'm a huge gamer now and I know there's many ways I can go about playing it (getting an xbox or PC) but I just wanted to share this stupid story because I probably could have been a die hard fan and huge PC gamer all those years back. I just got into PC gaming a year ago and there's a ton of gems out there. Cheers!
