Very informative video! Well done. With the language thing its important to also point out that there are so many languages/dialects in Mozambique that after independence it was important to have 1 language that unified people and could allow delivery of services such as education. Moreover, i remember reading about the challenge of tribalism and regionalism in Moz, a way to try to bring unity was also to encourage ppl to see Mozambicans as 1 people and language was a way to achieve this.

Very true! I focused on the negative side, but this is definitely a positive - common language, more union! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Creio que isso da língua também aplica-se a ideia de que os colonizadores não pensavam ir embora. E portanto tudo fizeram para que não houvesse línguas concorrentes ao português.

@YaraMelAround28 күн бұрын
Levei a disciplina a sério desde a 6a classe.

My heart is hurting to hear Portuguese killed our Tsonga/Shangaan language. Fortunately in SA the Tsonga/Xangana language is preserved, it will never die. SA had advanced the language. It is daily spoken, taught at schools and some universities. it is official, it is in all forms of literature e.g bible, school books, etc, it is now found in translation English to Tsonga Google, culture is very strong in music etc, and is growing day by day. But I also think Mozambican Shangaan people have got themselves to blame. They should have reversed this Portuguese damage coz Portuguese left the country almost 50 years ago. Introduce the language at school, encourage and teach new generations.
@YaraMelAround4 ай бұрын
I totally agree. We should've never let xangana die. We should learn in in schools. It's a shame. Thanks for watching and for your comment :)
@WhatHappen2Burgess2 ай бұрын
I agree they should take advice from that young president that took over Burkina Faso and change the nation language back to what it’s supposed to be. They just change the language from French to Hausa. Also the top 10 language in the world are mostly European languages which is horrible! 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ and Portuguese is one of the leading behind Spanish.

Many of the flats in Maputo are run down - the Africans that moved in after 1976 didn’t have the money or the knowledge for the upkeep. It’s actually a tragedy as many white Mozambicans lost their homes. I’m surprised at how you’ve presented history - it’s not what you’ve been told and inter-generational wealth is hard to carry over for depreciating assets. As for the “big” houses - basically the spoils of the war - were taken over by the Numenklatura (communist elites)
