I think anyone using a submission as their finishing move is a form of genius in the ring. Because it tells more of a story of "will their opponent tap or not?" & you as a fan are at the edge of your seat for a good 30 seconds to a few minutes. . . Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Jericho, Kurt Angle, Everybody hates Chris. . .

Jeff has a history of many of those bumps, he didn’t have any major injuries until late in his career. I’m pretty sure it was more of a chain effect that finally got to him through that very rough bump which he’s done in his youth but his body wasn’t the same at all. Yet Jeff still wants to do a Swanton off a Hell in A Cell at Wrestle Mania 😂

@Mr. GoodKat yeah you do. For example, everyone know Undertaker & how he protected his character for 30 years. BUT he was wrestling like 4 years before that. As Mean Mark Callous. Kinda looking like MJF today, but anyways. . . .& then even before that, he was a basketball player. Then you go if he stayed in basketball, he "could've" played against greats like Shaq, Yao Ming, Hakeem, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning. Even Jordan & Kobe. Also with so many documentaries released on wrestlers, you see how they grew up & who their family members are.

The Undertaker is a great example of a wrestler finding new finishers to help relieve the damage being done by their original one. Although the Tombstone will always be iconic, Undertaker made both the Last Ride and Hell's Gate work for him. It honestly leaves me wondering why more wrestlers don't add new finisher's to their move set whenever they undergo a dramatic character change. This would allow them both an excuse for the new move, and to move away from a move that is starting to effect them physically and to save it for rare highlights on big stages.
@achimsinn6189
@achimsinn6189 Жыл бұрын
Chris Jericho also has a lot of different finishers which he picked up with his character changes. afaik none of that was due to injuries, but moves like the lion sault or the code breaker might lead to injuries if used exclusively over an entire carreer Maybe Jericho managed to dodge a bullet by switching his finishers so often.

The swanton bomb was easily the worst considering the height of the stunts they were performed in. Plus there were a lot of TLC matches Hardy’s participated in. Falling on hard objects and not seeing exactly where you’ll land on your back/neck area is probably the worst part, because he’d miss his target sometimes. The guy did not care about his body, and that could be a result into how he handled his mental health. He’s still struggling to stay out of trouble even to this day. Taking all these facts into consideration, I’m confident that that will never be another Jeff Hardy.

Which on one hand is absolutely understandable for all that you mentioned, yet it also is a damn shame as these matches will forever be legendary. The Undertakers knee issues are apparent. Everyone has some kind of problem and his is that you always see him limping backstage. In the mid-late noughties, he'd always drag someone out on the apron and punch/kick them a little before climbing up and doing a leg drop. He'd also get whipped into the ring steps A LOT and he ALWAYS went knees first. All of that is on top of the in ring leg drops and all the tombstones he gave throughout his career

With Austin, he's lucky he doesn't have tailbone and pelvis displacement. My father ended up with that from being a traveling salesman, driving for hours and hours each day. Always having a wallet filled with business cards that he kept in his back pocket. Sitting that much unevenly caused his tailbone and pelvis to re-position through the years and now he deals with extreme daily pains where the only time he has any issues from it is if he's standing up. Being almost 70 with bad knees, you can imagine it's not much fun.

Hogan could've used a clothesline from hell, I mean, it would've been more credible of a finisher than the legdrop since as he said in all his promos that he's got the largest pythons in the world. Also, didn't realize the RKO was one of the culprits for Randy's back issues, but I get it. Although, his first finisher, the overdrive was also causing him pain, so either it really is just the RKO or that Orton is just injury prone. I mean, others like DDP who uses basically the same move doesn't complain. Sure he doesn't jump, but hitting the mat could still cause back pains. And if maybe Jeff used a different finisher or wasn't a highflyer, since he uses the twist of fate which is also a cutter variation, we could know if the RKO truly is a somewhat injury causing move. Btw, aside from the clothesline from hell, I think Hogan could also have used a masterlock, camel clutch, an AA/FU (firemans carry variation), or could've used an armpit choke and then DDT. The setup for that would be Hogan would lock the guy's head in the initial form of the DDT with the head locked in the armpit area, then just waiting for about 5-10seconds kayefabe the guy would just stop wriggling faking passing out, then he'd DDT the guy while fake passed out then pin. I mean if Brock and Cena takes a while to keep their opponents over their shoulders, same with Goldberg holding the guys high for about 3-5 seconds, then why not Hogan holding a guy under his pits for 5-10 seconds then delivering a DDT once passed out, that would be more realistic than a guy getting pinned for 3 seconds after a basic legdrop

Hogan already had a clothesline from his days in Japan. He called it the Ax Bomber and it would of been a very effective move for him when he was part of the NWO. He should of switched then but he was too stuck in his ways.

As someone with kneeproblems (and I am still in my 20s) I always wheez a bit when I see the tombstone piledriver and other moves that require the whole bodyweight to drop on the knees. Cant imagine the pain some of them go though at times for our entertainment. Wrestlers deserve so much more respect than they get.

Right? I've dislocated my right knee twice before I was 25. I'm 27 now and I drastically change the strain I put on my knees. and im just a normal guy 😂. I had fears I'd be a full on cripple by the time I'm 50. But seeing how guys like taker and triple h still talk after decades of legit dropping to their knees but are still able to talk gives me hope I will too

The stunner was a great finisher because it really allowed for the other person to sell the move. Some of those guys that took it, could then vault themselves into the air and it really looked impactful. Look at around 2:07. That is how you sell a move. Most other finishers, the person taking the bump are "out" and can't help sell the impact very much.

I can believe most of these, but I would have never thought of the leg drop being that dangerous. The Swanton Bomb doesn't look that dangerous... until you see all the places he does it from, and then you understand.

Well, think about what the leg drop actually entails; you jump into the air, and then you come down with your whole body weight landing on your spine. I actually slipped and involuntarily did the same thing 10 times in a row down the stairs, and my back has never been the same. And that was once; I can imagine what the result of doing it over and over again over decades could do...

You would of thought Randy's RKO would of hurt his shoulders more than his back considering where his opponent's head is landing and how his head is positioned. I honestly thought that the RKO was the reason why Randy has hypermobile shoulders now

That's why The Rock was so smart. He has 2 entertaining finishers in which it barely hurts him at all haha. I think the chokeslam is probably the best for the guy delivering it. But if wrestling didn't have guys like Hardy and benoit using finishers that put their body on the line so much, wrestling would never be as big as it is today

Watching this list just me see how many current WWE wrestlers will be hurting in the future, Carmelo Hayes with his leg drop is a perfect example. Bronson Reed will need to change that splash to protect his knees from being jello in a few years.
