My Grandfather still speaks about the St Francis Damn disaster. He was 6 at the time. My great grandfather was a Docent (educator) at the Oil Museum as he worked on many of the original oil wells.

Wow! I can't even imagine what that would have been like. It m.ust be fascinating listen to your grandfather tell stories about the history he lived through. You should film him telling the story. If you do and put it online, let me know -- I'd love to watch it

To help the kids learn culture and the history of California. They should build a museum in Santa Paula commemorating the defeat of Mexico by the United States. And that in 1846 California declares independence from Mexico.

Great subject, again. Yes, I'm familiar with mulholland's piece of work. Mulholland and his chief engineer saw leaks through the concrete the night before..., but said "...it's alright".
@JasmineApple
@JasmineApple 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can't even imagine what that night was like. Those 2 guys who drove around waking everyone up were heroes. Some of the people I met were talking about planning something for the 100th anniversary - still 7 years away!! So for that town, the scar is still very real. The town isn't that large. Probably a lot of residents heard the stories growing up.

The granite ball floating on water is a good example of the force of water. Disneyland in Anaheim once had a larger one that the rotation could be manipulated by hand. I once saw a cemetery monument in the Midwest that was a pedestal and a three to four foot wide granite ball. The surface area of contact between the ball and the pedistal was a circle about four inches wide. The weird thing about it is you could see the unpolished dot area of intended contact, except that the dot would be in different places around the side at different times of visiting the cemetary. It was one of those urban legend things because no one ever saw it move, or ever saw water coming out of the base. I was convinced of somethings weird about it since if was meant to float on water it would not have an unfinished dot. (More fun and interesting facts from the Graves..... true stories and yes, pun intended) Thanks for the marvelous videos. ✌🙋

Thank you! The pedestal in the midwest sounds really interesting -- no one ever saw it move, and yet, it moved. Do you ever watch Doctor Who? It kind of sounds like those angel alien statues that wouldn't move as long as you were looking at them. Loved your pun!

@@JasmineApple I remember some of the early Dr. Who, though, I would spend most of my time doing other things besides watching TV. My mom is a big science fiction and Dr. Who fan and I suspect she could tell me all about the Allien Angels, even though she is struggling with memory loss. My mom still talks about her growing up durring WWII, and moving to California from New England as a ten year old. She has a hard time now with what happened the day before and where the dishes get put away at. Tomorrow I'll ask her about the Angels, and I'm confident she could tell me the story about them. ✌🙋🌻

@@JasmineApple I had asked my mom about the Dr. Who 'Angel Alien Statues' and she only had a vague recollection of them. Were they reoccurring occasional characters or just from a particular episode? The concept is very intriguing. I would imagine the concept would be good for building political jokes upon. 😂 like the old joke, It was so cold in D.C. I once saw a politician standing with his hands in his own pockets... ✌🙋

@@tomgraves6463 They were on at least 2 of episodes, with Matt Smith as the Doctor, Amy Pond & River Song in the cast. It was 8-9 years ago. When I moved to SF, I had to give up TV (couldn't afford it), but until then, I was a huge fan of the show.

@@JasmineApple I had a faint understanding that there were multiple actors in the series, but until now (thanks google) I didn't know that there has been 12 incarnations of the good Doctor. I did know that the current Dr. is a woman. Last month I saw part of the one where the Dr. got killed by someone in a Apollo space suit, though only saw about ten minutes of the episode. The Dr. that I was familiar with was the 3rd Doctor. The intrigue is understandable. My mom couldn't tell me about the 'statue' aliens, though when I told her about your adventure to the travel museum at Griffith Park, she did remember taking me there when I was a very young boy. Ironically.... I have no memory of the trains at Griffith Park. I do remember when there was a Go-Cart track, though I was too young to try it. 😐 Happy August to you and yours. ✌🍻🙋
