Personally I think tetras do fine in a 10 gallon, I’ve had all types and it works really well. Also dwarf, honey, and sparkling gouramis do well in a 10 gallon.

I bought six silvertip tetras for my first 10 gallon tank, and they fought to death :( Might consider avoiding this type cause after researching it, it is a pretty aggressive tetra type.

I agree that it would be ideal to have a large school of tetras in a larger tank but I have 6 in a 10 gallon with a male dwarf guarami and haven’t had any problems. They spend most of their time as a nice little school and come up to the front to of the tank together when they see me for feeding time.

Great ideas that you shared my friend and great information :) I used to raise and breed Golden Veil Angelfish and I had two 100 gallon tanks they thrived in and they were huge and beautiful but definitely the adults with their long veils require more room to move around in especially to get Angelfish to breed.

Oh I’ve definitely seen angelfish breeders use 10 gallon tanks as grow out tanks. But as adults the fins alone make angelfish too tall for a 10 gallon.

I like your ideas, however I have 6 neon tetra in a great choice 10 gallon tank. They are doing great and I think that a small group of “neon” tetras are fine in a 10 gallon. However maybe not cardinals... overall I have 6 neon tetras, 1 African dwarf frog and 2 mystery snails... they are doing fine

There’s lots of things you can keep in it but tbh 10 gallons is still pretty small and limited

Hi, what about Pygmy Cories? I know normal Corydoras are too large for a 10 gallon but what about a group of 5-7 pygmies?

I personally don't think 10 gallons is big enough for pygmy cories but several people disagree with me on that.

What would you think of a single Paradise Fish for a 10-gallon? I mostly agree with what you said about schooling fish, but I would make exception for some of the very small species like Neon and Ember Tetras, CPDs and Chili Rasboras.

Matthew Zito pretty much every care sheet says paradise fish need a minimum of 20 gallons, some even say 30 gallons. The reason for this is because they need a larger territory. Yes they might physically fit in a 10 gallon tank but it’s not ideal and I wouldn’t recommend it. I agree with you about tiny schooling fish like chili rasboras but I think neon tetras are even too large to school properly in a 10 gallon.

@@JeremyGoneWildPets The reason I ask is that most sources seem to assume that people are keeping Paradise Fish in a community with other fish, in which case the larger tank size makes sense to limit aggression. Obviously aggression isn't a factor for a fish living alone.

I still think 10 gallons is too small. Paradise fish needing a larger territory isn’t because of other fish and aggression, it’s because of how much space they need to comfortably live. 10 gallons is half of the recommended minimum. And I’m a believer that bigger is better

Great video Jeremy! I would add the Phoenix rasbora or maybe the dwarf rasbora to the 'acceptable' list. Soooo tiny -- in a heavily planted tank they can be really happy -- I have about 16 in a 15 gallon tank, not too much else in there with them (kuhli, cherry shrimp, snails, 2 badis), they are very happy in there!

I think everyone has their own opinions on what is acceptable for a 10 gal, but I really appreciate your argument for why schooling fish may not be the best choice! Def not something I have thought about and will consider!

The idea that Mystery Snails won't eat algae is simply untrue. I have a 10 gallon planted tank that had green hair algae and brown diatom algae throughout. I put a Mystery Snail in, and within 48 hours most of the algae was gone. So, unless it all disappeared on its own, I would have to conclude the Mystery Snail got rid of it.

I think it depends on the type of algae. My mystery snails haven’t touched the type of algae that’s in my tanks.

I generally advise against keeping a bristle nose pleco in a 10 gallon tank to begin with. I think it's too small.

I noticed that gourami do ok in groups as long as you only have 1 male....my males faught until 2 were dead...so I placed one male with the female and one male alone...

There’s a couple of things to consider with that, though. 1: this list is for 10 gallon tanks. I’m sure your gourami were in bigger tanks than that. And 2: this list is mostly for beginners. I feel okay with more experienced fish keepers experimenting with cohabitating gourami but I don’t feel comfortable recommending it in a video that beginners are going to find when they do a search.

What is your opinion on a heavily planted 10g with 3-4 female bettas?

Well, a betta sorority should have at least 5 female bettas so they form a proper pecking order. And I think 10 gallons is a little too tight of a fit for 5+ female bettas. I generally don't suggest betta sororities at all, but if you really want to do one, I suggest 6-8 females in a heavily planted 20 gallon instead. Yes, 5 females and 10 gallons is the *bare minimum* but as you can tell by this video, I ain't about bare minimums.

Yes absolutely. In a 10 gallon tank I’d suggest you keep them with some freshwater shrimp and some endlers livebearers. Or maybe an African dwarf frog.

Jack Tisch kuhli loaches and tetras both need to be in groups, not pairs, as they are schooling fish, and as I said in this video, I don’t think 10 gallons is enough room for schooling fish.

The guppies are risky with a betta. Some people have had success but others have not. It’s hit or miss. Also, ember tetras are schooling fish so I wouldn’t recommend them for a 10 gallon tank.

My goldfish capped out at around 4 inches, and i have a bullhead with them in a 10 gallon tank. They have been that size for nearly 2 years now. Am i still able to add a cleaner fish?

I've never kept them. But as they are schooling fish I imagine they'd do better in a 20 gallon than a 10.

Yeah you’ll be fine, i have 6 neons and 4 cory’s for almost a year now. Just keep an eye on your water temperature tho.

Bettas are a sub species of Gourami!

Gourami and bettas are both labyrinth fish of the Ababantoidei family. Bettas and gourami are related since they are of the same family, but bettas are not a subspecies of gourami.

alot of this is wrong, stocking depends not only on tank size but also water quality. If you change your water very often then keeping schooling fish like most small tetras is fine.

The reason I said not to keep schooling fish in a 10 gallon is because it’s not enough space for them to properly school. It had nothing to do with water parameters. I also said this was my opinion. But go off.

Most Gourami are WAY more vicious then Betta fish.

sharp thing I’ll agree they are a lot more aggressive than honey gourami or sparkling gourami. I still think bettas are more aggressive though, but I agree with you that caution is important when mixing either a gourami or a betta with other fish.

@@duncandonuts5268 regular single tails can be kept in 120 cm aquariums. Ik they get huge compared to what most ppl think, but a 25 gallon is enough for one. Idk about fancy ones

@@gollumtheartisticnewt1028 Single tails get over a foot long. Their growth gets stunted in smaller aquariums, which isn't a good thing because their organs don't stop growing, which means a slow, painful early death.
