This is also important for any pet owners for when the leash breaks or the dog runs out the gate and you jump in the car in a rush and forget the leash.

Instead of carrying the dog leash with a clip, try carrying one with a carabiner. You can clip the carabiner onto the leash itself making a “slip knot” of sorts that can be put around a dogs neck without a collar. Or it can also clip onto a leash.

Cliff, I know you are in Seattle, which has relatively mild temps. For those of us in the South, where temps can get over 100F outside and approach 150F inside a car, I have found that I have to take that into account for my car prep choices. Alkaline batteries don’t do well, they break down and become a mess. Spare food and drinks can be problematic. And meds need speecial attention. Be careful, there some OTC meds don’t play well in high temps or freezing temps.
@jannah4288
@jannah4288 Жыл бұрын
Hi Eric. A good way to combat the temps for some things is to have them in a cooler. A small lunch cooler would work well for the smaller items. And also, keep the cooler under the dash or seat.

New to this channel. Subbed. It's interesting to see what priorities people place on what areas of prepping. In my glove box: Quick Clot bleeding stopper. Tourniquet. 20 round spare 40 cal magazine. Why? Cause if you've found yourself shot or seriously injured good luck getting out to go find your FAK in the back seat or in the trunk etc... Your car might be crushed with the trunk or door not able to be opened.... When seconds count you might be dead by then. Keeping them within arms reach I can ALWAYS get to them without much inconvenience. A passenger can always reach them as well while I'm driving away from danger while injured etc. I also have: 2 flashlights. Leatherman multi tool. Air pressure tire gauge. Paper towels. Ink pen. Car paperwork all in an envelope. Hope this helps somebody.

As someone in a warmer climate, I wouldn't trust hand sanitizer that stays in the car through the summer. All my in-use sanitizer will lose significant volume during the summer if it gets left in a vehicle. Given that alcohol has a lower boiling point than anything else in the sanitizer, the most likely culprit is the stuff that actually does the germ killing is boiling off and escaping the bottle leaving just the moisturizer and fragrance.

Great video as always Cliff. I think the rescue-me tools are brilliant. I use the high-vz yellow ones, and attach them to the supports for the car seat headrests with zipties, which I then trim down. This way if they get dropped down into the footwell of the car when trying to escape, they are easier to spot. I also stow high viz vests in the seat pockets, with enough for all passengers. I also think it is important to keep major trauma items at easy reach of the driver, such as trauma bandage and CAT tourniquet. If I'm in a crash and injured and trapped in my seat, these are items you need within reach.

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for introducing me to the Travel John. I have three sons and we take several very long roads trips per year. Ever since being stuck in a traffic jam for several hours, I will never be without a Travel John in the glove compartment. This can even be used by the driver when traffic’s stopped. Also, I always keep a paper map of the area in my glove compartment. I try to replace these every few years because they do get outdated. I put the older versions in my guest bedroom.

After having my car battery die a couple times in the airport parking lot, I keep a car battery jump starter in my glove compartment. My Honda CRV only has an emergency key for the driver door, so I need to be able to reach it from the driver's seat. Thankfully the battery problem was a software issue that has since been fixed, but I've used the jump starter for someone else's car and it worked great.

I’ve have a dilemma. I’m in the UK and petrol (gas) prices are insane - over 10 dollars a gallon. I can’t load up my car with too much stuff because it affects petrol consumption. I stick with what we always need - rainwear, towel, blanket, first aid kit, hazard triangle and regularly rotated snack bars/mints. Obviously always water to drink.

As always, your vids are excellent. I love that you are such a dog lover. I, too, keep things on hand in case I come across a stray that needs to be rescued. Never thought of the jerky treats, so I plan to have some. I also recommend keeping a large rolled up towel, in case you need to gather up an animal. They can be quite dirty and covered with ticks and fleas. Also gloves specifically for handling them for the same reason. Large and long silicone gloves for ovens might be good to keep in your car for easy cleanup. I keep them all in a large heavy duty plastic bag with other dog items.

Along with the first aid kit, I keep a small stop the bleed kit in the driver's door. There's a full trauma kit in the back, but a quick grab kit that's handy will get things started, a passenger or bystander could grab main kit if necessary. Also, I keep a bottle of water anywhere I have a kit with medications in it. Makes dealing with taking the meds easier than looking for a drink to go with. I run first aid on the driver's side simply because I'm normally alone in vehicle and if something were to happen it's within reach without leaving seat.

Excellent!! Great video as always! I keep a collapsible silicone water cup ( you can find it for about 1.50 in Walmart camping section) in my passenger door to be able to give a pup some water. I also keep a leash handy. I clip a carabiner on the handle of all my leashes for two purposes. One if I’m out with one of my dogs and need to use both hands I can clip the leash to my belt loop so they are still attached to me. Second on a stray with no collar I can loop the leash back around and have a slip loop to put around them.
