Despite being accidentally bashed by the staff, Jackie Chan apparently mentioned in one of his interview that receiving a "direct hit from Bruce Lee" was one of the best thing that happened to him while filming Enter The Dragon.

Actually, Renee Zellwegger was heavily promoted in the Dazed and Confused VHS rentals era back in the 90s. She wasn't marketed for the film's release as she was super unknown, but when the movie finally hit the the rental market, her name was heavily featured because of "Jerry Maguire". In fact, a movie distribution company re-released a long delayed Return of Texas Chainsaw Massacre because of Renee and Matthew McConaghey (re-released in 1997 after both blew up in the mainstream). If anyone got the DVD release of Dazed and Confused, Renee Zellwegger was asked to be in the marketing release of the 10th yr anniversary.....even though she's barely in that movie as this video shows. So, in essence, there is no way she would be missed or "didn't noticed" because the filmmakers and the distribution of the movie on rental market want you know she's in that movie as a selling point to rent the movie back in the 90s.

This may be buried here already but… In the movie “the big chill“ there’s a credit sequence of what you think as a person getting ready for a party but it turns out to be a corpse being dressed with a coffin. You briefly see his wrists were stitched up revealing his death by suicide. The corpse was played by Kevin Costner. In the original script they were flashbacks to his character and his relationship with the friends who gathered for his funeral but writer Director Lawrence Kasdan decided the movie was stronger without seeing him. He made it up to him by creating an iconic role for Costner in his western, “Silverado“.

Clearly, nobody in the comments knows the difference between an extra and an actor with a bit part or even a cameo. The Evangeline Lilly and Brad Pitt one's are perfect examples because they have 0 lines and just fill the scene. The important thing to notice is ZERO speaking lines. That's an extra. You can be hired as an extra and be given a line; you are them upgraded to a principal actor. Some people have mentioned Matt Damon in Euro Trip. That's a cameo, he's an already established star that shows up, has lines, and that's it. They work one or two scenes. Bit part/day players are principal actors who are not stars that have one scene and deliver maybe a few lines. Think convenience store clerk who interacts with the actor.

@MickeyKnox
@MickeyKnox 2 жыл бұрын
Billy Zane is not an Extra in BTTF, he has a real role, even though it's a minor one and Glenn Close was already an established actress when she appeared on Hook. Gwyneth Paltrow's part in hook is also a role, not an Extra and she already had 2 movies prior to Hook.
@alm2187
@alm2187 2 жыл бұрын
It's true, @@MickeyKnox, there's a fine line between an extra and a supporting cast-member. Same goes for the distinction between the extra and the less prominent role type; background actor. Being given lines to speak upgrades the bg actor to extra, as might a nonspeaking role that recurs from scene to scene. (There may also be a distinction between extras and featured extras. And prior roles don't disqualify someone from this list.

Here is another one for you. GERARD BUTLER - TOMORROW NEVER DIES. This one actually comes from Gerard Butler himself. He was doing an interview promoting one of his films and he was on the Jonathan Ross Show. He revealed that early on in his career before he hit the big time he had a small role in Tomorrow Never Dies. He was a navy officer on the ship that gets sunk in the film.

Though he is not so well known nowadays, Steve Forrest was very famous in the Seventies because of his main role as Harrelson in the S.W.A.T. series... I spotted him as an extra in the film Band Wagon with Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse while they are at a train station. Also the guy that portrayed Kyle Reese in Terminator with Arnold (Michael Biehn) can be seen as an extra in Grease on the scene when Travolta is trying to learn how to play basket.

The Eastwood/Tarantula fact is really cool - I love the Jack Arnold movies. But even I like the trash-ones, and there I'm missing the fact of George Clooney in "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes". And what I'm missing too is, that William Defoe was and outstanding and well known actor & performer in the New Yorker Off-Theatre-Scene before, in the very well noticed theater group: "The Wooster Group".

Didn't realize this was a "before they were famous" type list and thought it would be things like Brad Pitt in Deadpool or something. Still cool. When I used to daydream about becoming an actress, I'd also imagine just randomly showing up as an extra on set for other movies. Video tapes had just become a big thing, and for the first time, anyone could scroll back to catch something they missed, so "blink and you'll miss it" cameos were a pretty exciting thing.

I ran across a gem the other day watching a a pretty bad 1987 Cherry 2000. Melissa Sue Anderson is sitting at the dinner table next to the maniacal overload Tim Thomerson there towards the end before they blow up the camp. At first I was like no way then I looked at her photos from 1987 and it is undeniable. I would imagine a lot of the actors were already hanging around on the sets in Hollywood back then doing other shows and the directors were like hey, you want to be an extra and go to the after party?
