As I live in a neighbouring community to Barrhaven, I have to agree there has been some wild summer weather - Tornado watch on July 1, the Barrhaven tornado and baseball sized hail on Aug 3 (where it ripped through several of our window screens and dented a car of a family friend). That's really enough for us - summer is usually just very hot and humid.

Might have been as you described but my initial thought was that he was beeping to clear the way and draw attention to the need for the guy to move his truck. Not sure why I took the optimistic view cuz usually I'm so used to people being utter shitheads that I usually fall prey to the cynical view. The very time I try to be positive, I probably do have it wrong. Back to people being selfish shitheads I guess 😕🤔

That Russian bridge collapse was probably caused by years of extreme weather, destroying the concrete in the bridge. It probably only took a couple of tiny cracks with iced up and then thawing water over some years, and bang the concrete failed.
@clivehorridge
@clivehorridge 9 ай бұрын
The piers remaining after the failure don’t look strong enough for anything like a bridge. Lack of maintenance can cause bearings to fail, so I agree that it’s likely a combination of poor quality concrete, rusted reinforcement and possibly failed bearings that led to its collapse when a fully loaded truck passed over.

On video #5 the Canadian tornado. Did you not notice the person walking down the street right as the tornado hit. All you seemed worry about was tents and that one car. But if you watch that video closely you can see that person emerge from where the trees were on the other side of the road right when a tree fell on them. An F1 tornado it just going to wiggle your card and slide it around a bit. But a person is a totally different story. Surprised that was not the focus of that story and not the safe occupants of the vehicle.

Anyone with experience with these boards or fire-fighting correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it have been better to leave the burning board where it was and get a ladder to reach the top layer, or remove the boards not on fire around it before attempting to pull down the burning ones? It looks like it would have been a slower surface burn, but then he yanked it down and it could spread upwards and between all the cracks, rapidly increading the intensity.
@user-3tf67bk46u
@user-3tf67bk46u 9 ай бұрын
I think that's a pretty fair analysis 👍 Too bad about that whole scene. I feel badly for the guy, hopefully he was insured. They're lucky the street buildings didn't catch. I wonder if someone dropped a cigarette from a bridge on top of the pile. But not sure if a cigarette would get it going like this or not. It certainly would if dropped onto newspaper or even most upholstery. I've seen white styrofoam burn before, and this load looked to be much more flammable than some brands. I know that blue SM or below grade type polystyrene isn't nearly as flammable as the much cheaper white foam. The R value is R5 per inch, vs this white foam is around R3.7 or so. And will deteriorate in wet areas. Plus ants and mice will literally eat and nest in the cheap stuff.

The Chinese dude was lucky. Polystyrene is one of the basis for napalm. The stuff becomes a sticky jelly when it burns and is near impossible to remove. Of course you should always use your parking brake when you park. Duh. But if you have a stick shift, also leave your car in 1st gear when you do so. If you happen to forget the parking brake, the car still won't go anywhere.
